Although I can't vouch for Mecum's ethics or acumen I can say as a viewer of their auctions on MotorTrend TV, a parade of pristine muscle cars from the 70's and earlier is a pleasure built for a rainy Saturday afternoon. My father had a '67 Firebird and a '69 Camaro that frequently make me choke on my Salsa when I see what those vehicles now fetch at auction. Even the '98 Buick Regal GS that I drove into the ground is now paying off numerous student loans for someone. And let's not sleep on the '72 Country Squire with the plastic side panels that we mocked as kids -- this beast is now a nerd fiesta for some lucky owner. Mecum is time well spent in the wayback machine and is worthy of five easy stars. read more

Weird how they don't have any reviews from the past three months, suspiciously around the date of their most recent bidding controversy involving an out-of-line auctioneer. It's almost like they're... dare I say it... having any mention of that incident scrubbed from their Yelp reviews. But why would a company do that??? The lack of integrity from the auctioneers and Mecum Auction's own customer service should keep most serious bidders away. Anyone thinking they'll walk away with a car at their bidding price runs the risk of additional bids being accepted even after the auctioneer has declared a lot to be sold. Do your own research. Video evidence exists of not just this, but up-bidding by auctioneers to meet seller asking price. And if you don't like it, too bad. Mecum and their "auctioneers" call the shots, and they don't care if they're playing dirty as long as they all make a buck. (Now, let's see if this review gets pulled too) read more

edit to my earlier review of Mecum. About a month or 2 after the auction, a mecum rep called me and asked me if I would sign a bunch of documents allowing them to get another title. It turns out that they somehow LOST THE TITLE I had given them for the motorcycle! They LOST THE TITLE! LOL!!! Who does that? I told them I would do it for a price but they refused to pay anything. So I said NO because I lost a ton of money selling that motorcycle in their auction. They called many times begging me and even gave the buyer of the motorcycle my phone number and he called me to beg. I still said NO. You don't get to screw me out of $1000's and then expect me to help you Dana Mecum! I don't know what the poor buyer did but I am sure Mecum didn't offer him an adequate solution. I had place a bid on some fine art and immediately after I won it went up for auction again. I place another bid, thereby bidding against myself, won it and then it went up for auction again. Was fun attending to see a large variety of cars but I would definitely say buyer beware and do your homework... A rare car make I particularly know a lot about was advertised with very low miles and sold 2-4 time over what it's worth... as the car was not in good condition and had at least 50k - 100k miles more than what the odometer indicated.... read more

I had the opportunity to go to the auction in Indianapolis on the last day of the auction. My husband and I religiously watch the auctions on TV, so I was like a giddy schoolgirl when I arrived and got to see it all in person. The beginning of the auction was a light and music show with video and watching the auction live was amazing. There were so many vehicles to see, free things being given out and everyone was so nice and helpful. I also got to ride in a Dodge Challenger and did drifting - it was exciting and fun. I've have been going to mecum in Kissimmee Fl for 5 straight years. I have not bought or sold a vehicle with them. (I'm not buying a vehicle that I can't have a mechanic look at, or drive). I highly recommend the bidder package pass, its 500 but they give you 200 back on a card that you can use to buy food or merchandise, in addition to the 200, they offer free beer, water, pop and usually some kind of snack. I usually go 3-5 times during the 2 week auction. it's been a great experience and always brings back a flood of memories from when I was a kid. read more

I have been going to Mecum Auctions for several years now. I've won some and lost some, that's just the way it goes, until the auction in January 2025 at Kissimmee. this year I sold a vehicle and purchased a 1978 Corvette with 45k actual mile. I am very happy with the car I purchased except for the fact that I cannot drive said car due to Mecum mandating I use them to pay the taxes and transfer of title. Fast forward I have yet to get the title so I can get the vehicle registered. After numerous calls and emails I've gotten nowhere. it's quite disappointing as I truly enjoyed going to Mecum. First experience to buy a muscle car claiming the car has been totally restored. NEVER AGAIN I will buy a car from them. Really bad experience. When car was loaded to their transport, they had to push the car I was told by the driver. Transmission did not work, battery dead, prestone leak, electric problem. Useless company. Bought a bike from the John Pharnam collection in Iowa and they recommend Haul Bike Direct. They bagged me twice daily to see if I set up pick up and they only gave 72 hours after auction to pick up the bike. The only people who could do it by their timeline was Haul Bikes. So I used their overpriced service only to get ripped off by them. They charged $900 dollars to ship the bike and they promised a delivery date of October 10th and now that delivery date has been pushed up by 2 weeks. Why would Mecum recommend such a useless company unless they were getting a kick back. Avoid Mecum until they get a more reliable delivery service and lower their ridiculous fees! Why do we pay you 20 percent if you can't even insure that the people you recommend can do their jobs. read more

As an update I wanted to say that one of my vehicles has already won second place at a significant car show in the state of Texas. This vehicle was purchased through Mecum in September 2021. I see some of the negative feedback on here and there's a couple things that I think people need to realize before spouting off negative reviews 1. Never buy a car sight unseen. That's just common sense. This means you need to go in person or have someone you trust go in person to examine the vehicle. It's a major purchase so I don't understand these people saying they bought car only based off the pictures off the Internet and did not physically inspect the vehicle or have someone they know or trust inspect the vehicle. These are cars being sold at an auction. If you want to buy a brand new car from a dealership go ahead and do that but that is not with this purports to be. 2. Make sure you read the disclosures to understand how a transaction works. Mecum has always been very upfront and transparent and make the assumption that you the buyer or you the seller has educated yourself with the terms and conditions before engaging in a transaction. I find some of the feedback on here to be disturbing because it reflects more on the person writing the review then about the organization once you read about how the individual chose to proceed in a transaction without taking the proper steps. 3. I have purchased three vehicles from this organization. I had a concern with one of the purchases and my issues were handled immediately because I read everything and understood what the terms and conditions meant and we had a very above board discussion and everything was fixed within a couple days after contacting Mecum because the issue I had fell under the terms and conditions of their transaction. As a result they follow the rules as well. I am certain you or any other customer would get the exact same level of customer service I received if you follow all the directions and are within the terms and conditions stated. read more

They want someone to leave a title and sign power of attorney, why? They are the largest group of incompetent people dealing with people's valuable times. I bought a Cadillac Deville on the 12th of May 2023 and here we are the 12th of june still no title, we as the buyer have 2 day's to wire the funds but Title work on mecum behalf no rush,,,, come to find out they applied for a new title to mecum, I called today asking about it, Reply I got was well if you don't have it by the end of the month which is another 3 weeks. This has to be the greediest collection of folks I've dealt with in a long time. I bid on several lots of parts and they posted a whopping 25% commission, it's the highest I've ever seen but it was clearly posted so I adjusted my bidding accordingly. $5 per lot fee for what I don't know? But again it was posted so I paid it without complaint. My order is now all ready to ship and now they're charging me $125 for a $5 pallet? I challenged the fee because that charge was not posted anywhere in the terms and conditions. I was told that because the fine print said fees "to be determined" they must have their last profit center fee and can't live without it. By that logic I guess I'm lucky they didn't charge me $5000 for a pallet because they determined that was a fair price? Really awful people that are exclusively focused on greed and not much else. Be aware it's about a circus experience not about the cars. I purchased 11 cars. 6 had problems to major problems, (thats not Mecum's fault they cannot vet condition). Absolutely everything is a charge and up charge. They corner you into using there transport for cars with tight timelines to remove the car from the lot and charge more than other transports. Food vendors complain about getting overcharged by mecum and they say they have to charge a lot for food. Auctioneers jump pricing on bids and you dont know that the actual bid is tens of thousands less. The auctioneer will misrepresent car values indirectly as if the cars are worth so much more. I dont feel i was treated as a customer ever that there only concern was to get more money from me to enter, sit somewhere , sit closure to the stage, push me to bid more and charge me more for shipping than i pay other companys to ship cars. I feel They could care less about me as a customer Just my money and how to get more of it. read more

I have sold my car at Mecum and I was lied to. my reserve was at 110k and I told the gentleman I want 90k in my pocket after everything. during the auction he was asking me if I would take 65k, I said no, then he asked if I would take 75k, I said no and then the bid went up he said 85k in your pocket, I said ok remove the reserve. The car was sold and now since it was him saying and not on paper, they only want to pay me 65k. I was scammed for 20k. read more

Bought a muscle car at the Mecum auction in Dallas in September 19.Before deciding to attend the auction I called Mecum to see what info they could give me regarding to seller.Employee told me he was very reputable and never had any issues with his cars.The Mecum website and window sticker clearly stated the drivetrain was all original with numbers matching engine,transmission,and rearend.Got the car home and shazam...wrong transmission,heavily modified engine and after a few emails with Mecum they refuse to do anything.Don't believe anything they tell you.One would think after paying $4500 commission for the privilege of buying a grossly misrepresented car and $1000 to transport it Mecum would be wise enough to find a simple resolution. read more

I really enjoy old school cars wow if I would have known what some cars would be worth when I was a young boy, my dad had a few of them but I don't think he really new, I watch Mecums and said one day I am going to buy from mecum auction some of the most beautiful restored and original cars you will see, well that day came a few days ago I bought a 1965 C10 Chevy custom truck online so after speaking to a couple of there people about the truck I was told that the owner had all the paper work and trophies because it was used in truck shows, so I got a call from mecums telling me that the truck has air suspensions air bags that lifts and lowers the truck that the truck air bags are leaking and that they was putting it in a shop in Vegas to repair it well a week later the truck was delivered to my home , truck would not start when I finally got it to start it wouldn't stay running found the plugs file badly and the air bags that was supposed to have been repaired or replaced would not pump up and remain pumped up, I called Mecums back but I couldn't get any help there , they said they would have the owner to call me because I wanted more information on the truck you know like what s in the engine ,transmission,rear end everything about the truck that would help me when I may have to take it in for service or repair . Mecums has to do a better job for the buyer I have to pay all of these fees to buy, if the owners do not have all of the necessary papers and the truth about the vehicle they are selling should not be auctioned anyway online buyers do your homework, I am still trying to get more information from Mecums ,I will just keep knocking until someone answers. read more

Bought a 1989 Bentley at the 2018 Orlando Auction. After buying I did a car fax and it showed the car was a "total loss vehicle". Called Meecum and they talked to car fax to have it show as a "rear damaged accident" car. I asked them why they didn't disclose accident vehicles and they said they didn't have to. I tried to sell it at Barrett Jackson a few months later and they laughed at me and rejected the car. Word of warning: pay for a car fax BEFORE YOU BUY at this auction or buy one at Barrett Jackson. read more

What a rip-off, don't go, it's just not worth it!!!!. My wife and I went to the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee Florida 2020 This event was poorly organized, very little signage as to what was where. The "port-a-pottys" were disgusting and few. It's huge so with a lack signage you walked on the hard surfaces forever trying to find bathrooms, featured cars, and a place to eat. Not enough places to sit and rub your aching feet. For food I went to the first place I could find ...starved, I ordered a cheeseburger, fries and a lemonade. Truly a new low in burger history, the "cheese" was like a spread that they put on with a butter knife on a cold bun top. Here's the killer, not only did it suck but they charged me $18.00 for it! Great cars but you're better off to stay home and watch it on TV. read more

I attended Indianapolis auction with serious intent to buy. I was not allowed to drive any of the cars in order to discover mechanical problems. Some become employees were willing to start cars for me so I could listen to them run, but then other Mecum employees stopped them and said that cars were no longer allowed cars to be started. I asked the information desk, what inspections does Mecum do on vehicles to assure any quality? They strongly asserted that they do exactly zero inspection, that they make no promises whatsoever, are completely unaware of the condition of any vehicles, and the responsibility of learning the condition of the vehicle is 100% the buyers. Since we're not allowed to drive or start the cars, that means we are buying collector cars as-is without any clue whether they'll even drive 1 mile on a working transmission or with working suspension, and we assume 100% of the risk. What is Mecum fantastic for? Selling your old classic car that has a broken transmission, broken suspension, broken brakes, electric problems, leaking gas tank, or literally any other problem that can't be detected when it's sitting at a curb. The car will sell, the buyer won't have a clue, and you'll be off Scott free without any legal liability. When I was there, a 1920s Ford blew its oil pan open in the staging lanes and spilled oil everywhere. They just cleaned up the oil, rolled it across the bidding floor, and an online buyer won the auction without a clue that he bought a mechanical mess. I also saw Dana Mecum pressure a bidder into a $70k bid. The bidder just kept saying no, that he was done bidding, that it was too much money. Dana was in his face for a few minutes and then walked away with a triumphant fist in the air declaring that the bidder was in. He was now the high bidder, but as Dana walked away, the bidder was holding his face in his hands saying out loud "oh my God, what have I done." He clearly didn't want to bid, it was crazy unethical. I had a buddy turn down craigslist offers for $48k on his fastback. He brought it to Mecum with a reserve of $50k. The bidding stopped at $45k. Mecum pressured him heavily to remove the reserve right then, saying that it would inspire a bunch more bidding. Well, they were wrong: he agreed and removed the reserve and it sold for $45k, plus had to pay his seller fees. He was sick to his stomach. When you consider that Mecum will take a $5,000 in commission from the buyer of a $50,000, plus a few hundred dollars to walk in, plus ~$1,000 from the seller, but will do exactly nothing for the buyer and they don't allow buyers to fully inspect yet make the buyer fully liable for discovering all car problems, I don't know what the heck they're charging all that commission for! I can't believe anybody does business with them at all. I'm certain people only do business with Mecum because they don't know any better. read more
