Letty's has been a staple of Del Valle for years, with a dedicated clientele that goes there regularly. Part of its authenticity: expect a lot of Spanish spoken in the restaurant when you're there, and note that all the signage throughout the restaurant is also in Spanish. If you don't understand something, just ask. If you're going to the Germania Insurance Amphitheater, which is also in Del Valle, TX, this is a good place to grab a bite before the show. Sure, if you're coming from Austin, Letty's is a little past the venue, but not too far past. And since it's a little further to go, it won't be as slammed as much as some of the restaurants much closer to the venue. I got two tacos, chicken and al pastor. They were delicious. The tortillas are made in house, and certainly have that homemade flavor. My girlfriend got their nopales tacos, which she really liked. They had some great extra hot salsa which I found very flavorful (and hot!!). Germán was our server and also worked the front. He's part of the family (no longer living in the family's compound surrounding the restaurant, but just down the street), and was just about the nicest person we had met in our entire trip to Austin.

As we walked in, we were greeted by who I assume is the owner and she let us know there was a free table next to her. Our waitress was super friendly and gave us chips and salsa shortly after being sat. The chips and salsa were excellent and I, as usual, ate too much. The salsa had a good spice and great flavor and the chips were very crunchy and crispy (like fritos but airier). I ordered a small menudo and chilaquiles with green salsa and both were really good. The menudo had a ton of flavor, good spices, and the stomach pieces were cooked perfectly; super tender and no, sometimes off putting, lingering offal smells. The chilaquiles were also great and the green salsa was mild and refreshing, with excellent side of potatos and beans. I could not finish my food as I thought the small menudo would be like a small cup not a whole bowl. I had also filled up on chips and salsa and our waitress refilled it so I had even more. All in all, this is an excellent little local spot for some bold flavors and fresh food. The menu is quite large and I'm curious to come back and have some other foods (like chicken fried steak).

The fat from the fall-off-the bone ribs and slight caramelization of the meat gave everything just the right consistency and taste. The rice was better than most places (soft but not mushy). The beans and tortillas rounded it all out. Normally I don't fill up on all the tortillas but I used all of it to clean the plate.
