On Feb 05, 2019, I left Meche feeling extremely disappointed, so I decided to convey my experience directly to the owner & on Feb 13, I called to speak with Neil Weisberg. Reception took down my info & later Sierra the manager called stating Neil had asked her to call me.
The Haircut That Never Was!
So recently, I was reading about dry haircuts, thinking they might be the solution to my problem because I have wavy/curly hair & have had several hairdressers shape my ends unevenly. I think this is because when my hair dries naturally it bounces up more in certain sections, than in other sections, thus wearing my hair "all natural", letting it air dry, does not produce clean lines as when it is wet, blow-dried or flat-ironed. Often times my haircuts appear as if a section of hair is missing out of the ends... as if a weed-whacker attacked it or some feral animal came and took a bite out of it. To be honest its as if I have two different textures of hair on my head, with the hair underneath, at the nap of neck being way more curly than the hair on top of my head, i.e. the hair which falls from the crown. Thus what I was seeking was a haircut that would allow me to wear my hair natural, a low maintenance haircut to correct the previous one, point being to at least get a haircut that is cut straight rather than having a concave chunk at the back.
So previously, having been a customer at Neil George & to Meche when they first opened it had been awhile since I'd been to Meche because I live in Irvine & driving to LA just for a haircut is pretty hectic. However, I have been seeing some doctors at Cedars-Sinai and one day it occurred to me that I should just organize all my hair salon treatments on days when I am at Cedars, & when I read Meche's profiles & saw that Alissa & Buddy specialize in dry cuts I got really excited & made an appt with Alissa for Feb 06.
I did not make an appt for the 5th because the procedure I was having at Cedars was a 3-6 hr procedure and so had no idea how to gage the time...in any case I got my appoint for the 6th and was very happy but when I asked reception if Alissa could do my color as well I was told she does not do color. So reception said they would see who else they had available and started talking about getting color done before the haircut and I said well that won't work because I want a dry haircut (did not want my hair washed and blow dried 2x) because I thought the whole point of dry hair cut was to have the hair fall naturally, so I thought it would be best if I got the dry haircut, then the color, then the wash but reception couldn't figure out how to schedule it so I said, its ok never mind, I'll just get the haircut.
On Feb 5, 2019 I was up at 5am and left home at 5:30am and spent 1:45 min in traffic to get to LA. My procedure at Cedars finished earlier than expected so I thought why don't I just pop into Meche & talk them in person. I arrived 12:15pm & asked reception if Alissa had any openings for that day & she had a 2:45pm, so I deliberated thinking, I can wait here 2.5 hours now or I can spend another 3-4 hrs commuting tomorrow, so I decided to take the appt & just wait.
Reception told me I could go shopping but I said I was tired & was going to go take a nap in my car. FYI my car was parked on the street directly in front of the salon. So I went to my car & made calls. 2 hrs goes by & I'm thinking oh I better go use the little girls room, so I walk in and they say oh we've been calling you to let you know Alissa had to leave! I'm like, sorry what? Reception, then proceeds to tell me that Alissa had an emergency & left about 15 minutes ago. I check, I have no missed calls, so I ask reception what number they have & they read out a phone # from 6 ys ago. I said, you don't even my current phone number & the girl said, it wouldn't have changed anything, she just left 15 min ago.... I said well I've been right outside the front door sitting in my car this whole time, for over 2 hrs.
So ok yes, Alissa had an emergency, stuff happens, I get that, but reception making a booking 1x over the phone & 1x in person & not checking if the phone # is correct is inexcusable. Sierra told me reception deosn't check numbers. You got to be kidding. Strange cause most every office I call to make an appt with actually does take the initiative to make sure ones phone number is up to date, never mind I was literally 20 feet away from the reception desk the whole time. So not only 2 hs of my time wasted sitting in a car but also in that time I had rescheduled my calendar for Feb 6.
All I can say is if I owned a salon & had a customer making the effort to drive 1.5-2 hrs each way just to get to my salon & had a customer waiting for 2 hs for a haircut that never was, I would surely try & make-it up to them and offer them some kind of goodwill gesture, 50% off a haircut or service, but Meche did nothing, offered me nothing! read more
