This hotel could do with a makeover. The lobby is pretty average and has a seniors home kind of vibe. I was pleased to see that they actually have a filtered water machine (hot and cold) down there so I could refill my water bottle. The room left a lot to be desired. There were a lot of smudges around door knobs and some sticky spots on the bench. The beds were really a shock to see. The duvets were all super bumpy. I was really scared that something more disgusting was inside but it was probably just bunching of the material from washing. The sheets on the bed are extremely thin. The fitted sheet was straining to cover the mattress and you could see right through it to see the mattress below which creeps me out hygiene wise. The bathroom had its share of issues as well. The sink didn't really drain that fast so you'd end up with a pool of water. I really wish the tub looked cleaner. It reminded me of a bit of college days at a friends house - students don't have time to clean but they give it a good attempt and wind up with something like this hotel. The one thing I liked about the bathroom is that the hairdryer had a built in night light as part of its docking station so you didn't have to blind yourself at night when you went to the bathroom. This place is cheap so it does the trick but it wasn't really a comfortable stay for someone like me that is hyper conscious about cleanliness. If you are taking a ride share to the outskirts of the city, it ran us about $30-40 one way just FYI. If you've really just come to see the sights of Seacaucus it's sort of in a good area since it's surrounded by restaurants. Note that these are the dregs of American chain restaurants (Red Robin, Buffalo Wild Wing, Outback, Chili's) but they offer food nonetheless. read more

I really love this hotel! It is in a great part of Secaucus that can get you to nyc from the bus right across the street! The staff is quiet and pleasant! Rooms are clean and it is very nice here! Prime location for shopping and dining! You also get a deluxe continental breakfast with your own waffle maker! This place rocks! I will already stay here due to how great the location is! I don't really understand how this hotel has more stars than it should. Let me start by saying my room smelled of overly used cleaning products. The paint on the ceiling was bubbling and cracking, hangers were coming out of the wall, lamp shades were crooked, the desk looked as if it was going to fall from its own weight, stains in my carpet, my fridge was growling every night, I hated taking a shower because it looked like they painted the bath tub. It is an older hotel that could use some updates. Our room had two double beds. We were so tired from our day in NYC that we could have slept on rocks and not noticed. The breakfast area was super crowded and not a seat was to be found. Food was OK. Not good or bad We have always stayed outside of the city due to better priced rooms, however it seems as though quality has gone down and price has gone up considerably. read more

One of my favorite places to stay when visiting NYC, which is often. The Good: LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Take the crosswalk out of the hotel & you'll find numerous restaurants ... Outback, Carrabba's, Red Robin, etc. Walmart is one block down the road. A little farther down the road you'll find all kinds of shopping & entertainment. Also, NYC transit stop is right across the street. As far as my room is concerned, it was very nice & clean ... comfortable bed & hot shower. My family and I Stayed here two nights. The rooms are very small, the bathrooms are very large but could use serious cleaning and most of the appliances don't work. After a very long day in the city, I was certain I was going to fall asleep as soon as I hit the hotel, but of course I did not. The pillows made it impossible to catch some sleep!! However, the workers here are absolutely amazing! Especially the ones who prepare breakfast! The hotel itself could use some updating. The area it's in is very good. It is hard to believe how this place gets such a high review. I will mixup my good and bad in this review by theme. Breakfast: 24-hour coffee. Has two waffle makers. Has eggs, meat, cereals, fruits, oatmeal, and more. Meat part is different every day. Can get VERY crowdy (and one main reason is where the plates and utensils are placed). Food is not good. Found a bone in one of my sausages. Buffet tables are incredibly dirty. Breakfast tables are VERY limited, and not cleaned. Garbage cans are overflowing. Runs out of coffee often. Room: Room is nice. Big comfortable mattress. Nice presentation when we came in. More tv channels than previous places I stayed before. Carpets are NOT vacuumed (almost step on a bottle cap in carpet that did not came from any of our beverages, and carpet had other stuff in it). Squeaky bed frame (that would wake us up when someone would move in it). Wifi slow. No ethernet entrance. No pad of paper and pen in room (a first for me). One of our working table had a crooked leg and could break at any moment. Maintenance: AWFUL!!! The day of the checkout (which is at noon), the cleaning lady came knocking on our door AT 9:30 to ask us when we are leaving! I was in boxers and my wife was still sleeping! She did the same thing to my in-laws at their door, at the same time. Totally disrespectful of the guests. We had to complain about this to the main desk. Their cleaning carriages blocked the hallway and they never moved it! We had extra towels when we came in, they disappeared the next morning. At least they left the extra pillows. Business: Business room is also AWFUL! Three desks, three chairs, one computer, one printer, no scanner, no paper, and a sink (!). Since the internet was so slow, it was impossible to do a little work here. Oh and the lighting is very low, which does not help. The rest: Behind counter employees are okay. Informative, but not that friendly. Elevators are SUPER slow! Five bagages carriers at main entrance, which is great because there is probably always one available. Their lawn is filthy and full of trash. Very close to the bus that goes directly to New York City. Did not go into fitness room, but it looks like they have a few machines. Vending machines on each floor (although filling them occasionally would be a good idea). The room itself was good (aside from the squeaking bed), but it was the almost non-existing maintenance, or lack of it, that makes the place disappointing. If you do not have high expectations, this place is great! read more

This used to be the Hampton Inn. I have stayed here for business many times. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable and the price was right. This place is now under new ownership. Checking in, the front desk lady was efficient, cordial and very helpful. When I got into the room, I realized that the place that I use to know is totally gone. The maintenance on the room is non-existent. The grout in the tub was old and moldy. The air conditioning unit had a broken grill and mold all over what is left of it. There was. Black handprint on the bathroom door. Bit the corners of the room, the dust was ridiculous. The bedding was gross - exposed boxsprings is cheesy. The lamp shades were cracked and dusty. The patch job in the ceiling of the bathroom told of an ill repair from a leak above. Coworkers tried three different rooms before they found one that was acceptable. I was supposed to stay three nights. I am checking out in the morning. Bottom line stay away - unless you don't mind moldy, dusty rooms read more

Oh, New York, how I hate how expensive you are... I pretty much spent 2 months looking for a decent hotel that wouldn't leave my wallet crying but also wouldn't leave me crying in the streets of a shady neighborhood. Although I had to still pay more than I wanted for lodging, I figured if I'm here for business, I'd better make sure I'm at least alive to make my plane tickets worth it. First off: great location. AKA, safe enough for women traveling alone. Tons of restaurants within walking distance thanks to the convention center being directly across the street from the hotel. If you forgot to bring anything with you, there's a Wal-Mart down the street (10 minute walk?) and a shopping center behind the hotel (you have to cross a bridge). The bus station across the street takes you into the city and drops you off conveniently at Port Authority Bus Terminal. Free breakfast is in the lobby area and can get crowded sometimes, but you can always take your food back to your room. There are waffle makers, fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs (depending on the day, you will either get scrambled or omelette), oatmeal, cereal, coffee, fruit juice, milk, teas, and an assortment of breads and spreads. Front desk people were VERY helpful. Even provided me with a bus schedule the first day so I knew how to plan my day forward. Had some problems with several credit cards not working due to me being from California and all, and despite the embarrassing situation, they didn't make a huge deal out of it or make me feel more embarrassed, even after multiple cards got declined. (Yikes!) Our room was clean, spacious, and the beds were comfortable and squishy. I'm more of a firm bed person, but after standing in heels for 6+ hours all day, a squishy bed is marvelous to lose yourself in. Business center is minimal and doesn't have any pens for some reason O.o The internet connection speed in the business center is.. somewhat lacking. As for the (free) wifi in our room, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I'm not the biggest fan of New York or its prices, but since I had to come over here for work, I'm really glad I stayed at Meadowlands River Inn. Will definitely come here again. It's not a luxurious hotel but for us was affordable, clean, quiet, comfortable beds, safe area to walk around, easy access to major highways, multiple retail/restaurants in walking distance, friendly staff, and free continental breakfast with 24hr coffee/tea/hot cocoa. The NJ metro bus stop is right across the street of the hotel and is a direct 15-20min? ride to Port Authority in NYC Times Square. From there we took the subways to explore NY city. I stayed here for a night with my family on the way to DC. We arrived later in the evening and we were greeted with an employee who was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and it was quiet. We parked out front in the parking lot without any problems. Red Robin was next door which we walked too and outback was across the street. The free breakfast was nice in the morning. The property was dated and should really be remodeled or cleaned up a bit at least - they don't even have an outdoor sign! Our room was acceptable to sleep in for a couple nights but overall it was not worth the money at all. The towels in our room were stained and had hair on them, the ceiling was stained/cracking, the wifi barely held a connection, the air conditioner didn't work, the complimentary breakfast looked like dog food, the sink wouldn't stop running after being turned off and the room cleaning service was terrible - it looked like a 4 year old made our beds. When we checked out the front desk staff didn't even bother to ask how our stay was - look somewhere else if you're staying in the area this place is a joke! read more

Our family stayed at this wonderful establishment a few nights. The bus stop to NY is literally steps away. The front desk provides transit schedules and will answer questions about local transportation. Our room was clean and spacious with an unusually large bathroom. Housekeeping was polite and friendly throughout our stay. We didn't need anything extra or special, but it was nice to know they would gladly assist if needed. This was basically a place to crash after our long days in NY. It was nice to return to comfortable beds every night for a good night's sleep. There is a lovely continental breakfast buffet with excellent coffee and tea. There are different daily hot items such as sausages which our son loved, scrambled eggs with ham and biscuits with gravy. For those who stay more than one night, this variety is thoughtful. When our son approached the waffle maker, he seemed unsure about it and a staff member immediately came over to explain how it works and give a demo. We appreciate her and all the staff who went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. read more

We were looking for a hotel within walking distance of the Meadowlands Expo Center. There are plenty of chain hotel options but we chose to support a local business. We were greeted warmly upon check-in, welcomed as first-timers to the hotel and were provided information about breakfast. The room was spaciuos and quiet, the bed, bathroom and towels were clean and we had a good night of sleep. The shower was hot with plenty of water (no slow dribble) and the hotel provides the option to guests of reusing bath linens should they so desire. The breakfast was plentiful - the usual display of cold cereal, oatmeal, waffle maker, eggs, bacon/sausage, toast, english muffins, bagels, sweet muffins, danish, coffee, tea and fruit. Although the breakfast area was somewhat crowded, we were able to find a table immediately- and did not feel rushed while eating. Before our event, we took a walk around the area (there are no pedestrian lights at crosswalks so take care), found a Starbucks and enjoyed a second dose of caffeine for the morning. While we did not need to travel to New York City from the Inn, we saw the well-marked bus stops while on our walk. Bottom line: yes, I would stay again and yes, I would recommend to friends! read more

This is by far the worlds worst hotel. Driving in there is absolutely no idea where the hotel even is because they have no signs on the top/front or even doors of the "hotel". I come into the checkin area and there is a vomit colored stained sofa when you walk in and yellow ceilings ...not a good first impression. The people at the front desk were very polite and very helpful with all our accommodations and told us everything we need to know . Going into the hallway you are hit with the smell of a nursing home through the lobby and in the rooms. I sat in the bed and it was so squeaky because of the box springs and I found a dark curly hair on the second folded towel. At this point I was completely disgusted by everything we've seen . I went to the reception and told them about both and they were extremely polite and changed my box spring and replaced all the towels. At this point I was feeling a bit better but as I remove the bedding I found 3 long hairs in the sheets . This is utterly disgusting, they clearly haven't cleaned this room after the previous guest . For breakfast it was a whole mess, they had no room for all the guests to sit so they made them guests sit separate to the food. The food itself was subpar no fruits expect a few bananas and the 2 choice options for the muffins were really dry and felt like 2 weeks old. But as I said earlier the staff is wonderful they were really nice and greeted everyone in the morning. The absolute absolute worst part of the entire hotel was the bathroom, they had plastic hospital looking trays and ice cooler. The bathroom was so grimy and gross but at least we had hot water the shower looks straight of a prison ! If you were considering staying here please splurge an extra 50 bucks a night and stay somewhere where they at least have a sign on the door read more

My daughter left her ring in the room and didnt realize it till after we checked out. I called and they found the ring and held it at the desk till I came back and picked it up. Very honest staff. Horribly congested area, not the hotels fault. Temporary sign by street poorly visible, no sign at carport entry drove by twice...is this it?? Check in attendant seemed a bit surly. 1 of 2 elevators broken, operating one seemed on its way out soon. Room was dated, tub was gross, hairs all over. Very noisy guests in the wee hours. Breakfast marginal, scrambled eggs seemed like industrial powdered egg reconstituted. Not much effort would result in better reviews. While it's not the cleanest hotel it also wasn't the Bates motel either. On the plus side they offer 3 pillows to a bed, the bathroom are big enough to accommodate 1 person at a time and the breakfast offers the finest aged bagels and powdered eggs in all of NJ. Only one group out of 20 had to sleep on used sheets so while their batting average was better then Mickey Mantle, you generally want a hotel to bat 1000 in that category. read more

We were looking for a new hotel for when we visit family and happened to see this one. The price was very affordable and the rating on expedia was good so I decided to give it a try. We called the front desk and let them know we were running late but were still coming and the very pleasant voice on the other end said no problem we'll see you when you get here. Super easy to find the hotel, 5 mins off the Nj turnpike. The check in process took less than 5 minutes and the desk clerk was very friendly. We went up to our room it was clean, there was a microwave and a refrigerator which is always good to have. This morning we went down for breakfast it was good waffles, eggs, cereal, bagels and muffins. The beds were comfortable, the wifi service was good and the we will be back! Spent 2 nights here to explore NYC. The staff were very kind and friendly - they even offered us maps and bus directions to the big city! That was a real plus. The hotel is a good value based on the price and everything works, but if you're looking for anything new and shiny... this is probably not the hotel to be at. In my room, the bathtub was discolored and the closet wood was cracked, but these are all minor things in my opinion. Perfectly livable and usable! There is abundant parking and it is located to a BIG shopping center with plenty of food options. The hotel provides breakfast and there are many options! (3 different types of cereal with milk, eggs, ham, waffles, bread that you can toast, bagels, muffins, danish pastries, fruits). The only downside is the SLOW internet... it takes a while to load anything, but you're so close to NYC! Plenty to do without using the internet! Overall, I recommend coming here. read more
