The front desk staff were unprofessional and dismissive, making the entire experience unpleasant. Instead of being welcoming and helpful, they acted as if assisting guests was an inconvenience. Their rude demeanor and lack of basic customer service skills made check-in frustrating. It's clear that better training--or a new team--is needed to improve the guest experience. I would not recommend this place based on the poor service alone. Not only was the front desk staff rude and unhelpful, but the facilities were also lacking. When a place doesn't offer great amenities, the least they can do is provide acceptable customer service--but that wasn't the case here. The receptionist was not friendly ..... We tried to check in early (couldn't), my wife had to use the bathroom, receptionist said no public restrooms, even with a reservation! We had to go across the street to Wendy's, then kill four hours! Housekeeping never changed our used towels even though we saw them cleaning the room next door when we left. The excuse was ... Too expensive at the end of the day. I had to temporarily live at this hotel and was paying 800 a week. It was 250 Sq foot of space but pet friendly. Free for the 1st pet. Nice front desk. Laundry wasn't efficient so I didn't get a good clean. View was great and near transit etc but the only thing provided was coffee from 6 am to 11 am so that's cool. First mistake and it's a big one... I called corporate to ask if its an extended stay. She said yes. I'm thinking " plus" meant living suites. I brought all my things, only to find out thay it wasn't. Thay was 800 I blew that week. I decided I'd just stay the month and move to another hotel. I found out when paying for a few days that they sold my room. The next day I took off work to leave. I couldn't imagine if I walked into the office the morning I was leaving for work to pay and then found out my room was sold that day! To check out and remove my items would have taken a day. Bad enough the next day, it took from 8 am to 230 pm to pack up on my own amd I got several ubers to bring my items to my mother's. Their is a perpetually nauseating smell in the rooms. Like am old scent. Other than thay, I'd recommend short visits but remember that 28 days is the cap. read more

After my horrible experience at the Red Roof Edison, not a Red Roof Plus by the way, I started staying at the Secaucus location and when I initially started staying here, I loved it. The vast difference is the Edison location allowed smoking, Secaucus did not, but it didn't matter because I get to walk outside really easily to smoke. Here are my complaints and why I'm steered clear from Red Roof, all facilities. 1) About 3 months ago, I booked a room for the stay, Superior King Size. To start, they wanted to raise the rate at the rate I booked it for the day of the check in. I got an email saying that the rate is not $50 extra PER NIGHT. I had my bf at the time show the front desk the email and had them honor the rate I was quoted at. They did that. Great. We arrived and he realized there was no cold water, in the summer. When we went to the front to let them know, they informed us 1) no maintenance considering it was 8-9pm at night. 2) No other rooms available. So of course I had a Karen moment. 100+ rooms, and you're telling me there's NO rooms available? I left and of course, the woman gave a handicap room to my bf. But when it came to me, no rooms available. But with him, a handicap room. Cool. 2) I get that it's a motel and shady shit happens around the area. But another incident was when we arrived one night and there were young adults dressed provocatively, taking drugs all while next to us. They put us literally in between these group of people so they were just all running back and forth. 3) The last straw, is when I finally used 17k Redipoints from all the bookings I saved up. I booked for a PREMIUM KING ROOM, which includes in the amenities: "complimentary snack bar, spa like massage bathroom, handheld shower head, comfortable blankets, etc." Of everything I got that was listed, we got an extra pillow. Ironically, we stayed in Room 332 where we were assigned PREVIOUSLY for a *superior king size*. So 17k points went down the toilet. Complained to Red Roof customer service, was super nice and helpful and put me in contact with Antoine, the GM of this facility, where he stated he will mail out a VIP Pass that allows a reservation on them for their mistake. Antoine mailed it out supposedly 09/13/2024. It is not 09/24/2024. I live across the river in NYC. It does not take 11 days to get mail, minus the one day for postal service not in service. There was absolutely 0 reason for me to lie to Antoine about not receiving the postal mail. He advised that when I receive/ready to book, I must call the facility of my choosing regardless. So let's say hypothetically Antoine, that I did in fact receive the VIP Pass (which I didn't). What am I supposed to do with the extra pass? Fake a voice and book another room? Give me a break. Your refusal to acknowledge the fact that it got lost in the mail as I explicitly stated prior to you mailing it out and when I followed up with the email asking where the VIP Pass is, I get a response of "I doubt it's lost in the mail. I get shit from Newark a week later" Highly unprofessional. But goes to show, NEVER EVER EVER give another motel a second chance. I will take all the money I put into RR and book a luxurious hotel that will accommodate. read more

This hotel is decent considering the price compared to the other hotels in the area. We got a water from the vending machine that looked open and the hostess gave us a new water. There was hot water and heat which is good since my room is near the Hudson on a cold March night. The TV works and there are plenty outlets to use. I wouldn't recommend using the Wi-Fi since it's not secure. The light above the sink flickers and, pillows are deflated, and the blow dryer was dirty. And my mother couldn't take a shower because the tub's drain was stopped up with bar soap. This spot is good to lay your head and relax real quick but not to get comfortable. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Wouldn't recommend! Also, shower was dirty, only one TV channel worked and the WiFi didn't even reach our room! So, after I posted this review I received a phone call from a representative who worked in the corporate office. He asked me about my situation. I explained it to him and I told him about everything I wrote above. He then told me he happened to be at that hotel and he was going to check the room for me to see if my item was there and he found it! He was so helpful on the phone, very apologetic and very nice well I do think that the employees at this hotel were not the best. This is the worst motel or inn! There is a smell that made me and my wife sick. We think they used bleach or other chlorinated chemicals to sanitize the room. However they did not air it out for their next guests. So we slept and suffered from allergic reaction breathing this bad air. Also the heating system does not work properly. There thermostat is quite old and controlling it was a pain. Also there was a bad stench coming from the bathroom sink. We left immediately at 6 the next morning. Couldn't bear this disgusting place. Wow. Some of you guys need to chill. I booked a room for less than $100 with free parking and it was less than 20 minutes away/a little over 5 miles via a taxi to Manhattan. Read that again. Again. For that reason alone I'm giving it a 4 star review. The cheapest hotel I could find in Manhattan was over $250 and I'm willing to bet you had to pay out the nose to park there, as well. Having said that, there are some cons: --The room did not have a fridge and microwave as advertised. --The AC was insanely loud (I actually like white noise from fans, but this was too much) --My peephole was stuffed with a wad of plastic bag (have no idea why this was, but you can just look out your window to see who is at the door) --There was one bug (looked like an earwig) in the bathroom but: so what? I collected it in a cup and threw it outside. It's not the end of the world. Some of the reviewers clutching their pearls over seeing a bug need to take a deep breath. Other than that, the area seemed safe and relatively quiet. I had no problems with noise or other supposedly nefarious activities as other people were reporting, the bed was clean and comfy, and had plenty of hot water and towels (4 bath towels, 4 face cloths, 2 hand towels) for a 2 person stay. Bottom line: Don't expect the Ritz for $100/night this close to NYC. It's kind of shabby, but who cares? Keep your expectations reasonable and it's a perfectly fine place to stay. read more

Very disappointed in our stay. We were greeted at the main entrance with a strong odor of cat urine. Now I know this may be out of the hotels control if there is an issue with stray cats in the area, but it was not a welcoming scent. All the rooms have signage indicating they are smoke free. When we opened our door the first thing, we noticed was a strong stale odor of cigarette smoke as if it was embedded into the paint & interior of the room. Room appeared run down and in need of an upgrade. Cleanliness left a lot to be desired. We had 2 towels, 1 hand towel & 1 face cloth. When I requested clean towels as no one had cleaned or restocked our room I was told by the housekeeper they did not have any. I then went to the main desk and was told they did not have any clean towels and would deliver some to my room when available. We were there for 3 nights and never did receive any clean towels. We went to Walmart and purchased our own. I asked a staff member who was delivering fresh towels to another room if we could get some and she said when you bring the dirty towel to the main desk. We should not have to bring our own soiled/wet towels to the desk. Beds & pillows were very uncomfortable. No coffee maker in our room although there were some partial coffee supplies. I had to spray the room with some of my perfume as the smell was terrible. I have had a rash on my arms since staying at this hotel. Airconditioning & mini fridge worked sporadically. Calking in shower was moldy and in need of replacing and the tub had been painted and was peeling. Yuck. Fortunately, I did not see any bugs or I would have had a fit and would have preferred sleeping in my car. The grounds were nicely landscaped, with a gazebo overlooking the water and many benches to sit and relax. It could be a nice facility with a lot of work, improved cleanliness and customer service. I would never stay here again or recommend it to anyone. read more

We stayed here from Saturday to Tuesday in room 228. The best thing about the place was it faced some waterway. Room was like motel 6, we had shortage of towels and had to get them from front office. Air conditioning was not working along with mini fridge the first night but the replaced them. Facet for sink basically dangled because it was not connected right, no closet and bottom drawer of the only dresser was missing. There was a couple of places to get "food" across the street. If you want to take the bus into NY, it runs direct every hour from 10th about 3 blocks south. Don't recommend, but it was in the budget for us just on this trip. read more

So this time on my visit to the East Coast I decided to stay at this hotel which my girlfriend recommended. My check in process took about 1015 minutes due to the amount of activity going on in the office on the pace of the receptionist is kind of slow but eventually I got all checked in and settled. The receptionist gave me a pretty nice room off to the back with the view of the pond in the back which was really awesome and me being a smoker I could just go right outside and smoke. This hotel is located next to a few fast food restaurants, Hotels and a really good spa across the street which is an inexpensive.. However my stay here was pretty peaceful and I can't complain much!! Thanks red roof Inn for your hospitality.. When this was finally fixed, the faucet in the shower leaked all night and wouldn't stop, and our room became a sauna. We woke up soaked in sweat. Our friends who were staying next to us had BLOOD on their sheets. When we went to try and get a refund we were shown utmost DISRESPECT. Then shortly after, they gave us a wrong number for the corporate manager. We inquired about getting a new one, but Desmond at the front desk threatened (and did) call the police. Never stay here. I gave one star out of five and that was very generous. The room was filthy dirty counters dirty carpet the hallways are open air and I still smell the faint aroma of illegal substances. I know they don't pick their clientele but it felt very unsafe, the room was a closet exaggeration but not by much. If it wasn't so late at night I would have left there went outside my window I heard a loud snap and followed by the prize of a child saying" no Poppy don't hit Mommy". I called the front desk to no answer but as quickly as I heard that I heard footsteps walking away it just made me very sad. Don't they have cameras didn't anybody else hear it I certainly didn't hear any police or security come up to investigate. I can only pray for that young small voice and not female who I didn't hear it all except for the slap. It's obviously a truck stop special and I would never go there again can't blame it all on the hotel but security cameras and at least a presence of monitoring checked out early the next morning. read more

I got a room for a couple of my girlfriends when they flew in from Los Angeles and Las Vegas I checked in about 6 PM the woman working the front desk was a little bit rude The elevator was not working And of course my friends were complaining that they had to bring your luggage up the stairs I did go into the room it was freezing. My friend wanted me to stay with them but it was so cold I was uncomfortable. The room was definitely updated it was clean and seemed ok. But the location is pretty gross and outside it doesn't look too good. I didn't shower there or use the bathroom so I cannot comment on that I was only there for about an hour before I realized I was much comfortable at home You need a parking pass to park and there's always buses and trucks parked outside It's located across the street from a subway and a Dunkin' Donuts and a liquor store Easy freeway access I did not sleep or use the amenities in this hotel but I'm leaving the review because I am the one that checked in. read more

I was looking for a low priced hotel to attend an event nearby and came across this hotel which was very convenient. It is only 2 blocks from the bus that takes you to the NYC station. The staff was very nice and helpful! There's even a big lake view in the back where it's nice to sit. housekeeping was great as well and leave our room clean everyday. And for what it costs here compared to other hotels, I would definitely recommend anyone to stay here. read more

Terrible, Checked in here for 5 days. A/C was broken, non smoking room reeked of smoke. Cleaning lady always came consistently late, forgot to throw the trash twice, rarely restocked toiletries. One drawer in the dresser was missing a handle. Toilet flush was very weak. Water pressure was very weak. Hotel was nose at night from the guests. At least a 15 minute walk to the bus with half the commute with no paved sidewalk. Would not recommend this place for the price. A car is also definitely needed as there are very few stores around. read more

first off there are tons of ants on the floor,my bathroom toilet only flushes if you hold down the handle,there is no maid service you have to request to have it after a week,no clean towels you have to go to the front desk to get them and this is all after my second room,my first room had no air conditioning whatsoever and no lampshades and one bed was broken so it was like a slide off to the side.for my second room both my room keys stopped working after four days,the elevator barley works and my sink water takes about two minutes to get hot. read more

Good hotel, sheets, bed and sheet were clean, floor was pretty clean and so is the washroom, the room had a fridge where we can store our food, parking was easy to find. I got a remodeled room on the second floor, had nice modern beds and hardwood floors. Nearby Amenities include a Wendy's, Subway and a Liqour store, there is a NJ Transit bus that runs directly from the hotel to NY Port Authority bus station, the 129 I think? it only runs during rush hour though. It is pretty close to Secasus Junction NJ transit station where you can park for around $9 after 4pm and all day weekends, trip on NJ Transit to Manhattan costs another $8 round trip. It was a little pricey @$100 a night, but still cheaper than Manhattan hotels even with all the parking and train fares, but if you are splitting the costs between a few people its not that bad. Tip: If you are into going for AM walks, there is a nice board walk facing the river over the bridge where the townhouse compound is. Has some excellent views. Will post photos next time I visit. In terms of service, nothing was wrong with this room. It's not too far from the subway station or any buses. It's pet friendly. They have decent decoration. We got the premium package, which was ironically cheaper than regular and we got "premium" parking spots and a box of treats, which was really nice (granola bar, tropicana, popcorn, basically $5 snacks so don't expect VIP treatment, but it's nice.) You get a nice view of water and a bridge. It's a pretty good price for the location and it's not too far off from New York. However, I found myself itching the minutes after laying on the bed. We usually bring our own sheets, but this time, we just decided to trust a hotel's cleanliness. Unfortunately, two days later, I have four big bug bites near my ankle that have not gone away in five days. I have about 30-60 small bites on my leg that continue to get worse and I'm not an expert, but they pretty fit the whole description for bed bug bites. This is the first time that this happened to me and this is the first time we have not brought our own sheets. We barely went out the first night and mostly stayed in the hotel room so I doubt that it came from outside. So yes, just a fair warning. It's not the cleanest and these bed bug bites suck a lot. read more

Where shall I start, surly front desk person who says that she personally thinks that the hotel is pretty crappy, says that it is a 2 star when that is an over assessment. The rooms are dirty, dingy and I was afraid to touch anything without using my hand wipes!!! I cannot state more clearly- DO NOT STAY there unless the world is coming to an end and there are no more hotels within a 5 mile radius. On the outside this motel seems to be pretty high quality as far as motels go. We checked in and headed into the city (after receiving horrible directions from the front desk) via the NJ Transit. After a long day out, we got back to our room to take a shower. There was a white plastic cover over the original bathroom floor covering up the original bottom of the bathtub. When we lifted it up, we were absolutely horrified and astonished at what was underneath. It was absolutely disgusting. Pictures are included- view at your own risk! We immediately called the lobby and got a new room. It was an absolute inconvenience having to repack and move to the other side of the motel. Will never stay here again!! This place should be reported for God knows what was on that bathtub. We didn't have problems with bedbugs as other reviewers have. But another huge annoyance is how paper thin the walls are- you can hear EVERYTHING go on in the rooms next to you, and even everything going on outside the room! Right now we're listening to a lovely man SCREAMING on his cell phone outside of our room. The maids' carts are ridiculously loud and woke all of us up. read more

There was a strange musty, damp odor coming from the bathroom, almost like mold/mildew. Bottom of bathtub had built in grime. There were a few stray hairs around the room that I know were not mine. Simply ok, not a place I'd want to stay at again. The room was clean, with a unpleasant odor of some kind of cheap cleaning fluid. Was given one small piece of soap, no lotion. Must be a large savings for them. There is no breakfast, just free coffee. The desk receptionists were nice. The elevator sounded rickety, not a great feeling, and it was dirty. To be honest, the room doors were very unattractive looking. I felt like I was in a horror movie. Was near the rickety elevator, so a quick escape may have been unlikely. I liked the tv, and the bathroom was nice. Also, plenty of outlets, which was great. The air conditioner needed the filter changed. I kept coughing in the room, and was fine once I turned it off. I am surprised with the horrible reviews. I was really expecting the worse and braced myself. Check in was quick and easy, parking was ample, plenty of restaurants and a movie theatre across the road and most importantly room 320 was quite clean! Great dual shower head and great water pressure! Thankfully it is also a non smoking motel too! Bed and pillows were comfortable and clean but the blankets could use an upgrade. I used the sheets but not the blanket as it was too stiff. Room and neighbors were quiet and I was able to get the rest I needed. I particularly like that the rooms have flooring vs carpet. I loathe hotel carpets, even nicer hotels often have funky carpets. The Meadowlands River Inn right next door has better Yelp reviews but I actually felt like their carpets need a deep cleaning as the room certainly had a musty carpet odor. The Meadowlands River Inn offers a decent breakfast so that might be the only advantage it has over the Red Roof, but I prefer the rooms at the Red Roof based on cleanliness. My room had a fridge, microwave and coffee machine as well. The AC/Heat unit needs an upgrade but given the weather was perfect, I did not need it anyway. It is a very basic motel but for a one or two night stay on a budget it serves its purpose. read more

Finally! Red Roof has been updated! For the longest time I refused to stay at Red Roof Inns because the rooms were so outdated and gross, but now that they've renovated, I LOVE to stay here. My husband and I have stayed at a few Red Roof PLUS+ locations now and we really enjoy them. The modern look is gorgeous, the beds are EXTREMELY comfortable, the premium rooms are absolutely perfect, and the snack boxes that come with them are super yummy. I thought it was great when Motel 6 upgraded, but the Red Roof PLUS+'s are even better and not very much more expensive. Score! read more
