You really can't miss Mead Hall in the Isle of Berk in the How to Train Your Dragon section of EPIC Universe. It's the really tall structure you can see throughout this whole section of the Park. When we walked inside around lunchtime, we were told to wait in a short line while they found us a table. In less than 5 minutes, a host escorted us to a table and then told us to order via the Universal Studios app and scan the QR code on our table and the food would be delivered right us. This was actually very simple and easy to do. The inside of the Hall does make you think you are in a medieval castle and there are nods to How to Train Your Dragon in all the statues and tapestries. We looked over the menu on the app and then did a mobile order. I got Hiccup's Grilled Salmon and a Coke Freestyle drink and my husband got the Berserker's Meatballs and a Coke Freestyle drink. I then scanned the QR code and the app entered in our table number. Relatively quickly, a server came by with our drink cups. I went up and got our drinks at the 3 Freestyle machines along one side of the hall. I got my husband a Coke Zero while I got a Cherry Fanta. A bit later, another server brought our two platters. The meatballs were like the Swedish meatballs you get at IKEA, although a little softer. Also, I didn't think the gravy was as flavorful as IKEA's. But, the smashed root vegetables were really tasty. My salmon was amazing! Perfectly cooked, really good flavor from the sauce, delicious. The sides were great, too. The carrots were soft, but not too soft, and the roasted potatoes were yummy. This is located within the Isle of Berk, How to Train Your Dragon world within Epic universe. You go inside and if you want to order drinks go to the right to the counters. The inside is a large circle room with fun decor on the inside. If you're coming for food, pick a table and order from the QR code/App. We came in at 11am for an earlier lunch and food came out within 5 minutes of ordering! We noticed the staff were very quick at cleaning off the tables when people left. We shared the Thawfest Platter ($49.99, $53.24 with taxes), which was large and enough for two hungry adults to share. The platter includes 3 lollipop chicken in a wild berry BBQ sauce, salmon, sausages, fries with a dill seasoning (our favorite fries in the park!), carrots, grilled onions and came with sauces of bbq sauce, ketchup, pickled cucumber slices and horseradish dill creme fraiche. Mead Hall is visually stunning and absolutely nails the fantasy. The Isle of Berk area is enchanting, immersive, and honestly one of the prettiest spaces in Epic Universe. You feel transported the second you walk in. Now... the service. Or rather, the idea of service. There are no waiters, no napkins, and the app meant to replace human interaction was completely useless. You're mostly on your own, Viking-style. Food was hit or miss. The turkey wings were chewy and tough. The carrot hash was a lot of chilly hash and too much carrot. Potatoes were good, comforting, and reliable. Meatballs were solid and enjoyable. Salmon was the size of a deck of cards, but not overcooked. Despite the operational chaos, it was still a good time. The atmosphere does most of the heavy lifting here, a nice and cool respite and it's strong enough that you forgive a lot. Mead Hall is more about vibes than dining excellence, magical setting, uneven execution, but still worth experiencing at least once just to soak it all in. Beautiful place. Questionable logistics. I'll open with the negative, the mead was... Technically mead. The rest of the food was amazing, the interior of the hall was great, and frankly it was air-conditioned which meant so much more to me. I hope you like ordering over apps because this place is not for those who aren't prepared to master that BS yet. I've heard people complain about the service but as I think about it, I don't even recall there being any service. Were there even people involved? The whole process was so automated as to cut out the human presence, I can't recall there being any people. I mean, hooray for automation or whatever, but the human element has been removed from a setting ( viking ages ) that simply doesn't mesh with high-technology. As I mentioned in previous reviews we were very impressed with the food at Epic Universe, but of all the lands the food at How to Train your Dragon really stands out. Mead Hall is the main dining hall in the land and it really takes you back to the Viking era, with the lighting in the hall feeling like it's candle light. For the main meal we ordered their Hooligan's sausage links. The smoked sausage were very tasty and texture had the right snap. The sides included herb garlic miniature potatoes and roasted veggie. For dessert my daughter was dying to try the Stormfly's Catch of the day which is a chocolate mousse fish on top of cereal crumble. The mousse is encased in an orange sweet shell and the mousse was delicious while the crumble had fruity pebbles flavor. The whole family enjoyed the food and ambience of the Mead Hall! read more

This place is for those who want to be a Viking for the day! An amazing experience and ambiance! We came in with a large group of 13 and were seated pretty quickly after being asked if we could split the group, which we didn't mind at all. We mobile ordered on the app and our food came out quickly. We tried many dishes on the menu, and everything was super delicious and for a reasonable price. I had to try the mead, which was so yummy and fun that they went with a boysenberry and black currant mead instead of the traditional type. Mead hall is the great dining hall at the back of Isle of Berk inside Epic Universe. It's themed to a grand dining hall, where vikings would gather and celebrate. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Universal always does their theming so well. It really feels like I've stepped into the past when walking in. This establishment, like many of the other restaurants within Epic Universe, has an option for mobile ordering. You just order your food on the Universal app and scan the QR code on your table. I wanted to eat like a Viking so I went with something meaty. I found the turkey wings a unique dish, especially for theme park food. Our server brought it to us within about 10 mins. These wings are gigantic! I was expecting it to be bigger than chicken wings but wow! They were almost the size of my forearm. The wings, along with the barbeque sauce were excellent. The skin was a little crispy and the wings were not dry. The dish came with a baked potato, onions, and carrots. These were just as good as the wings. I'll warn you, you might get your hands dirty eating these, but that's okay. We're vikings here! I will definitely be back for the yaknog! read more

Like many of the sit down eateries you will see in EPIC this one is done so so well. It was part of Berk Universe and was so so well done. So much detail went into every part of this restaurant that I felt immersed in the land. We opted to sit in the back where there were two high back chairs and a bench and it was so cool. For the food I ordered the turkey wings and OMG so good! They had a bbq glaze that was just enough and so tasty. I tore my wings up! My sons had the salmon and the ohter had a kids burger and kids mac and cheese bites and nothing was left on their plates. I was apprehensive about food options when going to Epic because I was traveling with kids, some of which are picky eaters. I did not think we'd end up here after looking at the menu but the kids wanted to try it. Got seated very quickly and placed our order through the app. The kids decided to share the Thawfest platter and I was so proud of them for trying different things!! It has chicken drumsticks, salmon, sausage links, carrots, Nordic fries and onions plus sauces. Neither kids wanted the onions but that was ok. Nobody was a fan of the Nordic fries because the seasoning tasted like maybe dill pickles?? If that's your thing you will love them. But they enjoyed all the meats and ate until they were full. Several adults could have easily shared this. I got the Berserkers meatballs wanting them to be like Ikeas in the best way and they were!!
