I love this place so much. When my parents come visit from out of state, this is the place they always want to go! I've never had bad food, or bad service. A great bar! We were staying next door for a wedding and stopped in her for some drinking snacks pre-wedding and then in the morning for brunch. Both times were great and very friendly, welcoming staff. Sunday morning we both had the breakfast burrito which was the perfect mix of fresh and greasy, hit just the spot with a fresh cup of black coffee! We started with Garden Bloody Mary's with beer chasers (they have several levels of spicy available). My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict and I ordered the Breakfast Burrito. As I was out enjoying the awesome fall weather, I was in the area and did a quick search of places to eat. Me&Julio popped up and the pics looked good, so I thought to myself, why not?! Once I entered, I was quickly greeted and asked how many were in my party, since I was just one, I chose to sit at the bar. Once seated, the very personable bartender greeted me and asked if I'd like anything to drink, or wanted to wait fir a bit. I was thirsty, so I just ordered a tall draft beer while I continued to look over the menu. I asked about the Chimichanga, and the bartender said it was good, and he likes to put Caso sauce instead of the recommended sauce. The chimichanga quickly came out along with rice and retried beans and it didn't disappoint. I would definitely come back again the next time I come through Hastings!!! read more

Well was looking forward to breakfast for Fathers Day. Went to Me & Julio's. I ordered the skillet omlett with toast and hashbrowns with milk at the meal. The meal came and it was not so good. served in a skillet but guessing cooked somewhere else. cheese was very scarce in this mix. Sausage was not very good either plus did not get the milk with the meal. I would not go back. Poorly made breakfast at the most. Nice place, nice atmosphere but not so good of food. One of my dining companions probably would have gone two and the other four, I am going in between and giving it a three. Quite crowded on a Friday night with the Gophers Bowl Game going on. Not an empty seat in the house. Place is not very large. Maximum occupancy of 190 per the sign by the door. Got seated at a high top right next to the open kitchen and pull tab machine. No luck on the tabs tonight. Bummer. Got my girly drink fix with a couple Blackberry Margaritas. All drinks are $1.25 off during happy hour from 3-6. No complimentary chips and salsa is kind of lame. Instead, they give you free propcorn which is nothing special. Had to get the Walleye enchiladas for dinner. Only in Minnesota, right? Given a recent experience with what was believed to be Zander masquerading as Walleye, it is SOP to ask the server if the Walleye is really Walleye. Asked our server if the Walleye in the enchiladas was Walleye or Zander, and he tilted his head and gave us a quizzical look like my pug gives me from time to time. Not sure if he misunderstood me or if he didn't understand the question. He replied, "we have a clean kitchen". Ummm....OK, whatever that means. Rest easy, my dining companions were certain it was walleye. Honestly, I don't think I could tell the difference as I have walleye so seldom. The cheese sauce that they had on it was tasty for me, but not enough of it on there. Rice and beans that it came with were pretty standard, except the fried rice had eggs in it which I have not seen before at a Mexican restaurant. If you are not a fan of modern county music, this might not be the place for you. Every song they played seemed like it could have been off of the current K102 playlist. No jukebox that I could see. I like old-timey country music and am OK with modern country, so it didn't bother me too much. "Wasting All These Tears", "That's My Kind of Night", and "I Love this Bar" are a few of the songs we were treated to. Right now, I like Me & Julio. The food was amazing - we ordered the blackened walleye enchiladas, steak fajitas, and tres dips (we got guacamole, queso blanco, and spicy salsa verde). It was okay. I ordered the banging shrimp bowl. The menu says the banging shrimp are crispy fried shrimp in a zesty sauce. The shrimp were NOT crispy or fried and were in a sweet and sour sauce, not zesty. It was a decent meal but not at all what the menu described it to be. The other two meals at the table were meh. First off, I didn't expect to have such amazing food in Hastings, MN, on a road that boasts of farming equipment sales. I had the Mojo Mango Burrito. Wow, can you say portion overload? Twas amazing! I literally couldn't get through half of it before having to tap out. I was amazed at the flavors of the mango and the grilled fajita chicken and how well they paired together. I seriously cannot wait until I can have more. Next was the dessert. As much as I had packed in with the burrito, I couldn't miss out on having Mexican fried ice cream. I was undone. Two things I'd like to see improved - the wait time ordering and the quality of the take home containers. We waited awhile before our waitress took our order and frequently I ran out of water. The take home containers also should be sturdier - mine caved in the middle by the time we went back to the hotel room for our bachelorette party. If these two things are improve, I'd give this place 5 stars easily. read more

This is a great place to eat. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. Our order came so fast I couldn't believe it. This is the fourth time we have eaten here and we have never been disappointed. I would really like to give this place a 41/2 instead of a 4. The only deduction is that it is great food but not the best I have ever eaten...The Onion has better food but that's in my opinion. Some may think Me and Julios has better food. Very disappointed. The first time I had gone here, the food was great, and the service was super. Went last night with family and friends, and the experience was Horrible! I let one of the staff members know that the quacomole was the worst I have had, and I just wanted them to be aware. The manager came to our table and said she would take this off our order, but there's no reason to swear at her servers. I was truly appalled as i do NOT swear and especially never use the "F" bomb. Her reaction was, "Well, you know kids". I explained that I am a CS supervisor for my full-time job and part-time i work at a theater as an ast mgr, so i work with teenagers but would never say "you know kids." Not once did they apologize, but i let it go.Their menu slightly changed from 2 weeks prior, so I could not order the shrimp and muscle pasta. I decided to go with the BBQ rib burrito. It was okay, but you definitely need to like BBQ as you get a lot (which most people probably do). Our waitress paid more attention to decorating for Halloween that we had to flag someone down to get refills on our soda after they had been empty for a good 10-15 min and NO the restaurant was not busy and yes, the waitress was decorating. Once she took our order, we didn't seem to exist. After she gave me the bill, I had to flag her down to pay after waiting 20 min for her after receiving the bill. I'd totally understand if they were busy. Doubtful I'll return even though my first experience was great because of how poor this one was. Atmosphere was good. read more

I never post reviews, but since we are from out of town, I feel like I should warn other out-of-towners, and I also appreciate and look at reviews when I am from out of town. Short and sweet, this place was wayyyy overpriced for the amount of food you receive. Two of us ordered the fajitas for around $20 a plate. I literally got 6 shrimp and a couple of shriveled up onions and peppers. Small enough to not even know there were any vegetables with the six shrimp. I also don't complain, usually, but I did for $20 for six shrimp. Manager came and brought back a new plate with 9 shrimp and a few more peppers and onions in the tiny cast iron skillet. Also ordered queso and with chili and it was nothing but a tiny, and I mean tiny, bowl of processed nacho cheese, no chili whatsoever. So disappointing. Find another Mexican restaurant if you're looking for that type of food. Better off cooking at home otherwise. read more

As a native Texas, I always get nervous when trying Mexican food in the Midwest. I get extra nervous when a restaurant purports to be "Tex-Mex." All too often a Minnesotan's idea of Mexican is to take a tortilla, slap some meat together with some bulk purchased salsa and Velveeta and call it dinner. That said, Me and Julio nailed it. The food was great. The salsa was clearly handmade and fresh. The beans were flavorful. Nothing was too spicy, so my friends who like hockey and Canadian beer were happy. But the food was great, service was awesome, and they had some good local beers on tap. Win win win. read more

I went to Me and Julio with two friends last night and had high expectations. Got there about 7:30 on a Saturday night and the place was packed. The energy was high and Chris, the bartender, was running around making drinks, fixing beer taps, adjusting the TV ... two of us had beers and my friend had a basil margarita (heavy on the margarita, light on the basil) while we waited for our table. (By the way, kudos to him for pouring a sample of the beer I wasn't familiar with before I ordered it). The Miller Lite girls were there giving out 2 for 1's and beer branded merchandise. Ambiance - A+ This restaurant is owned by the group that owns Axel's / Bonfire / Rudy's Redeye Grill / Lucky 13's. In fact, as an homage to Lucky 13s there is a number 13 on on the sleeve of the T-Shirts all the staff wear. Note this is a menu with 1/2 Mexican and 1/2 American. Popcorn is free. Chips and salsa are $2.99. Dislike this trend (see the original incarnation of Ciento) but understand it. We sat down and ordered dinner. Fortunately we were not in a hurry. Ordered the Tres Dips (salsa, guacamole, and a cream-cheese-jalapeno dip). One of my friends said the chips tasted like they came out of a fish fryer. Not sure if they were house made or bagged/commissary items -- they did not come to the table particularly warm. The salsa was very good and the guac was pretty good. The cream cheese jalapeno dip was weird. It wasn't well-incorporated, so you had the ooh, cream cheese and *damn that's some jalapeno* moments. (We were hoping that would be more of a queso dip, it didn't say "cream cheese" dip it said "cheese" dip.) Entrees -- I had the puffy chicken tacos. The puffy taco shells appeared to be pre-made, they were not warm or pliable.. The chicken was pretty good but not a lot of it, there was at least a lot of lettuce and tomato so the taco was full. Friend #1 had the "braised bacon" (pork butt) standard tacos. He was lukewarm on the presentation and said he would have preferred carnitas. Friend #2 had the Grande Burrito. He said there was way too much shell and not enough filling. Also, there are five or six side choices (soup, rice, corn, and two kinds of beans) and you only get one with your meal. An extra side has to be ordered a la carte and can run up to $2.99. That's crazy. Add a buck to the entree price and offer a choice of two sides. As we left we saw the outside bar and firepit. Very cool. Will have to come back and check it out. With a few beers, the shred appetizer, and dinner, it was over $90 for the three of us. A bit spendy, not outrageous, but not cheap. Restrooms are clean and beautiful, though confusingly noted "Pistols" (with a picture of a little boy on the door) for men and "Holsters" for women. Hope no one is confused by that, especially with 5-6 beers on them. Overall, cool place, good buzz, excellent ambiance, okay food. It's a place that has a lot of potential and as with every new restaurant it has some kinks to work out. I would go back, though probably for drinks and appetizers, and hope that they can refine, improve, and tighten some things up as it goes on. I'm torn. I don't want to hit it with three stars, which the food and the fact that we were there for almost two hours deserves, but I also don't know that it earned the full four which the ambiance and personality of the place definitely get. For now I'll give it four and see how it goes on visit #2. read more

I am not spending almost 10 bucks on a cheeseburger when there are 4 places in town to get a great burger for 7 bucks. Based on the number of highly rated reviews I thought it was worth giving this place a shot, I spend a lot of time in Hastings and a quality restaurant is always worthwhile. In all honesty, I have no idea how they achieved such high reviews. The food was okay and a fair value, though they were absolutely ginormous portion sizes. The person who complained that the portions were to small for the price is out of his mind, the portions were as big as my face. The Bloody Marys (we were there for brunch) were fabulous, made with homemade horseradish vodka and the fact that they were served with little Coronita bottles is pretty cute. The ambience was cheesy and slightly offensive, the bathrooms are labeled "Pistols" and "Holsters." Seriously. Not a bad place, but overall not worth going back. And really, it was all the little stuff...a locked door when we arrived for brunch, every plate on our table missing one key ingredient in the dish, corn tortillas that definitely had flour in them, and of course the aforementioned "Pistols" and "Holsters"... Is it bad? No. Is it worth going out of your way to try? No. But if you do find yourself at Me & Julio's, give the Walleye tacos a shot. They're super tasty and only as big as half your face. read more

We were getting ready to take a trip down the Great River Road and needed a bite to eat. This place got a few good reviews so we decided to give it a try. First off, the service was incredible. The hostess sat us quickly and our waitress quickly followed. She was an awesome waitress. My co-traveler's phone was dying and he needed a charger. He asked the waitress who said she would check around for one. Although she didn't find one, I think she asked every worker there to try and find one. Secondly, I was torn between fajitas and the chicken tortilla soup. She said both were really good, but steered me towards the fajita. When our food came out, she had put a little tortilla soup in a sauce cup, just so I could try it. I didn't even ask! That's the kind of service that makes me want to return to a restaurant. It cost them next to nothing and is the main reason I'm taking the time to write this review. And as she said, both the fajitas and soup were really good. The fajitas were not like your typical fajita. What was different is that the season chicken breast was sliced and layers over the onions. It was nice because you could actually taste the chicken, not soaked and over-whelmed by sauce, peppers, and onions. My father-in-law had a Bloody Mary that he said was very good. It looked good to me, with cheese, sausage, etc. it came with a beer chaser. The flour tortillas were home made and were pretty darn good. Portions were plenty, but not necessarily huge. I ordered 1/2 LB fajitas, which were $9.99 and came with rice and house made mexican fried rice. My father-in-law ordered walleye puffy tacos, which were around $12 and came with one side. Overall, we were both very pleased with our meals, liked the atmosphere (especially the bathroom labels!), and loved our waitress. Would happily return next time we're in Hastings, MN. read more

Disappointed. I was OK when my order arrived wrong, as mistakes happen and the manager came over and apologized. I ordered a BLT without Mayo and it came with Mayo. I was not happy with the slowness of drink service, as my corrected order finally arrived and I consumed most of it before I was even solicited for a drink. The beer then took nearly to the end of my meal to arrive. When I received the tab of $45.65, I paid promptly. I asked for an itemized receipt because it felt expensive for the three of us (my son ordered a $4.95 kids' meal and my daughter had a water to drink). The waitress sighed and stated that she had already thrown ithe receipt away. She stated that she had already given me this receipt. I stated that all that I receved were the credit transactions. She stated again that she HAD given me this receipt and that it was now thrown away. She said that she couldn't get another. She said that it was no longer in the system. I explained that she could re-print this and I received a terse "I'll see what I can do." Her attitude totatlly turned me off. I left with no itemized receipt and very disappointed with this restaurant. A shame. The hostess was good when we came in and the food was hot. The manager clearly cared. Came into town on Saturday night around 10pm, love the name!!! With Julio in the name the chips and salsa better be damn good and it was the worst salsa I hav ever had. Live music was local and ok. This place seemed to be confused about who they are, Me and Julio should be easy to figure out but they seem to really struggle with understanding that, might because they are small town. 10pm on a Saturday should have more then 7 people at the bar especially if the live music is worth any salt. I have been a customer of Me & Julio since moving to Wisconsin over 3 yrs ago. Being from Texas, it was the closest I found to Tex-Mex in our area. That stopped tonight. Don't know why the extreme changes have been made but it sucked. The black beans were floating in water and combined with corn and tomatoes. THAT IS NOT MEXICAN BLACK BEANS! The salsa was completely different. It almost had an Italian seasoning taste. I ordered white cheese queso. It was good but I received 3 tablespoons for $2.99. I was so very disappointed. Now when friends visit me here in Wisconsin, I won't be taking them there nor will I ever go again. The waitress and service was excellent. Started the meal with the best chicken taquitos I've ever had. Every part of the meal seemed hand made, fresh. The flavor of the dishes that came afterward, however, was the plainest, most boring food I've ever eaten. I got the 'bang bang' shrimp tacos and they were nothing but a handful of shrimp, a pile of shredded carrots, and what seemed like two pounds of thousand island dressing. My wife got a corned beef hash that was similarly tasteless and the corned beef was a lot more like corned beef jerky. Super disappointing, but I guess one shouldn't expect the outstanding from a small town's array of Mexican options. read more

We've stopped here for breakfast a couple times now on Sunday and the food and service have both been terrific. The kids love the captain crunch French Toast and my favorite is the pork belly hash. I've been here for dinner before and was impressed with their fajitas as well. Definitely one of the best places to eat in Hastings. read more
