Have been going to MDO for years and they continually go above and beyond! Great product, great staff and great service.

Both the service of the staff and the quality of the eyewear at MDO are unbeatable. When you enter the store, you're greeted by a friendly, smiling face and immediately invited to sit down. You have a chat with the staff member taking care of you to help them understand what you're looking for, e.g. "I want to add some colour to my eyewear collection", "I want a classic frame that can go with anything", "I'd like something with a funky shape", etc. The associate will assess your face to determine what sort of frame will fit you best (personally my face is kind of small, and the bridge of my nose particularly small, which really impacts the fit of various frames), then bring you a tray of frames to try on. There's none of this wandering around a crowded store asking to see this and that pair, only to try them on and see that they are completely unflattering. Usually, if my eyewear consultant at MDO doesn't like a frame on me, I don't even bother looking in the mirror (I learned after my first few visits that they're going to be right anyhow). My glasses have always been ready within a few days (I've even had them done same day while I wait when the lenses are in stock). I look forward to shopping here for a long time to come! read more

I am very IMPRESSED with these people. The assistance they provided in selecting the 'right' style of frame was outstanding. They are very insightful when it comes to finding what works with each persons face and individual taste. When I ran into a problem with my prescription they worked together to find the source of the problem and once again went far beyond the call of duty finding my prescription prescribed was incorrect. I booked an appointment for a contact lens fitting and was quoted $40 on the phone. When I arrived to my appointment, the receptionist informed me that they could not give me contact lenses unless I had an eye exam as well. But, I had just had an eye exam one month ago at a different optometrist, which I did bring the prescription along with me. The receptionist said they needed my file faxed over from where I had my eyes tested, but had no luck in receiving it. I expressed my concerns that I was unaware of this when I booked the appointment and felt it was a mix up on their part. The receptionist apologized for the mix up. I asked the receptionist if they are willing to do my eye exam but waive the fee. She kept repeating that its the optometrist's 'license on the line'. I work as a registered nurse and fully understand this; but as a client I was not informed of what paperwork was needed for this appointment. I don't ask for things often, but I thought to suggest if the eye exam could still be done. The receptionist responded 'we can't just give you a free eye exam!'. In the end, I just chose to leave. I was not asking for something for 'free'. I just felt that if a company and service provider made a mistake, that they would be willing to accommodate for their clients. They look like a well established company but after this experience my perception upon leaving was that they just care about making money and not taking care of their clients. Initially, I chose MDO since I was a client there years ago and they were great. After this, I don't think I will return. read more

The staff do an excellent job of greeting you and personally taking the time to fit YOU for YOUR glasses, making sure that you get the product best suited to your lifestyle. They really took the time to make sure I was getting the right frame for me, which is really important considering the fact that they are on my face all day long. I've consistently gotten compliments every time I wear one of my (two!) MDO frames, and every time I do I recommend people head to the shop! I was due for a new set of glasses and heard good things about MDO from my sister and a friend so I decided to check it out. Immediately upon entering it was clear MDO was not like other optical shops. I was greeted and asked to sit, and the staff questioned me about my previous styles, day to day tasks and thoughts about my ideal eye wear moving forward. I have to say it was refreshing as I'm used to going in to a store and aimlessly walking around for 15 minutes looking at frames unsure of what would work, and trying to catch the eye of a staff member to help me. Based on your conversation and guidance the MDO staff gather pairs they think will fit your face and lifestyle. I have to admit a handful of the pairs chosen for me, I would have never even picked up if I were looking alone.... but I was surprised how all of them worked in one way or another. The practice of them selecting frames for you makes complete sense... I don't look at myself all day in my glasses, other people do. So experts identifying styles that compliment my facial structure is brilliant, and ended up working out for me. I got a new pair of glasses that I would have never even found if it weren't for MDO. I've had nothing but compliments since I received them. 3 Visits, 2 remakes of glasses I had to pay for and still could not see well. Poor distance vision, double vision headaches and more. Went and had my eyes re-examined at Sturgeon Vision Centre, TOTALLY different prescription, but back a lot closer to the original prescription I had before I moved to St Albert. I have been dealing with Doug, Deb and Heather for the last couple of months. I consider myself to have extremely sensitive eyes and I just got my first progressives and a greenish trendy frame that I did not like after the first week of wearing them; the frame was just not me. There was an issue with the progressives as well and not only were these wonderful people very concerned about the fact that I was not so happy with my frames, they were also very concerned that I was having issues on the computer portion of the lens. They said that because of my sensitivity, I should go with a more advanced progressive. So at the end of all of this, they gave me a more expensive frame and the better set of progressives for not a penny over what I had originally spent and they gave me a computer lens as well to go into my spare frames at home. My parents had been dealing with Doug and Deb for years and my grandmother as well and now I am and I could not be happier with the effort that Heather put into the whole thing for me. I felt like a pain in the butt to them and they treated me like family. I don't do a lot of reviews of anything but I needed to put this story out there and say how well I've been treated. read more
