After a few days of excruciating eye pain I called FYidoctors for an appointment. I was reluctant to call them at first as I thought they were just some chic, metrosexual glasses boutique. I told the guy on the phone I wasn't looking for designer frames to accessorize my look and empower my individuality and self-expression (even though FYidoctors offer this great service too). I don't even wear glasses (anymore). I needed an exam/diagnosis/exorcism--whatever would loosen the death grip Satan had on my eyeballs. In an understanding, empathetic, and even jocular voice he told me that they could get me in to see a doctor that evening.
When I showed up it wasn't very busy but I still had to wait 20 minutes past my appointment time. The technician who does the pre-screening was taking her time with the patient before me. I appreciated her friendly, matter-of-fact, relaxed manner as they discussed this patient's many medications he was taking but I was hoping for a little expediency.
My visit with the doc was especially cool and informative. He showed me a 3D model of my eyes on his computer screen. (This model was based on scans taken by the pre-screen tech after she was done her pharmacological seminar with the guy before me.) It's always interesting to see your own eyes blown up 200% with the blood vessels and nerves spread out like tree branches before you. It turned out I was only experiencing some seasonal sinus pressure-type thing and I wasn't having an aneurysm or a subarachnoid hemorrhage. Nice. The doc was a super-nice guy - great at explaining technical stuff in layman's terms. The fact that he was so cool makes me feel bad about not remembering his name.
So FYidoctors isn't just for people looking for sexy frames to match their new scarf. It's also for people experiencing medical concerns related to their vision and that service is covered 100% by Alberta Health. read more
