Austin is a booming town now and these guys have all the business they can handle, but customer service is not just a down economy thing. I can't speak to the quality of Darrell's work because he didn't even show up to scope out the job. He wasted my time and hopefully won't waste yours.

I had a random list of items that came up on the inspection for the house we had just bought that we knew we wanted done. Darrell has a broad knowledge base on home repairs and was able to fix everything on the list quickly, and also gave his recommendation on what could wait (or what would be easy and cheaper for us to just do ourselves). Fast forward a few months-we have continued to call on Darrell for various projects throughout the house. I'm 9 months pregnant and trying to get it all done before the baby comes and Darrell has risen to the challenge. He was able to repair our outdoor kitchen, match the stonework, wire in some new lighting and helped talk us through (and out of) doing a pricey pergola addition (I appreciated his honesty!) He most recently installed closet shelving, matching the existing and mostly useless laundry room shelves (with his perfectionist attention to detail) . Being around during the day while contractors are working in the house, it's nice to find someone who not only knows their stuff but is also just a genuinely nice guy to be around. I'm grateful that we've found a 'Darrell of all trades' handyman that I can call on for whatever comes up with our house over the years.

It's rare to find a contractor that is competent AND affordable for small handyman jobs as well as major remodels. Lonestar is wrapping up a major remodel of a flood-damaged home that I manage for a client (thanks, Onion Creek!). As soon as I learned of the flood, I called Mike. Despite a bust schedule, he dropped everything to head over to the property, and had a crew starting to clean the place up within hours of when the insurance company gave the go-ahead. Mike worked with all the other subs I had at the house and worked with the City every step of the way (not an easy job...) to ensure code compliance. As a result of his and his crews' hard work, the home was one of the first in the area to be put back in service as a rental.

I caution anyone who is considering using this business against hiring Solomon. He is…read moreunprofessional, unreliable and his work is subpar. My first clue should have been that he was immediately available for the job - he quoted the job one evening and wanted to start the next morning. He asked for more than 30% deposit up front, and within 15 minutes of cashing the check and starting the job, I received a text message from Solomon that he underestimated the materials cost by $400 and asked that I cover the expense. I declined and drove up to Home Depot myself to price the material - the entire material cost did not reach $400, let alone exceed the estimate. Considering he had just cashed my depot of nearly $2k, I decided to proceed with the job. The next 10 days were an absolute nightmare. I am embarrassed for him at the quality of his work. No caulking, no proper sealing. I literally could have painted better myself, and should have. Overspray everywhere, no clean lines. And, he brought children to my home - sleepy teenagers in headphones yelling out music lyrics while making an unsophisticated attempt at professional work. Let me not forget the time he wanted to work through the weekend, and literally asked for a key to my house to use while I was gone. Absolutely NEVER. He does not know how to float & tape, cut in, match paint, keep paint off of tiles and flooring, and he has no ability to take direction or problem solve. And his timeliness... he says he is going to show up at 7 am, shows up at 10 am with no excuse. Then at 10:15 has to run to Home Depot but then something comes up and he shows up late afternoon. Can I mention that the first time I provided ultra clear direction to him was after sleeping on my hardwood floors for 2 nights because he was working on my master bedroom for THREE days! It's an 1800 sq ft house, the whole of which could be painted in 3 days. Day three I asked him to wrap up my bedroom so I could get back to my life and to clean up the horrible paint lines, pics of which I will post. His reply is that things look good to him and that I am being too picky. Then he immediately quits, and has the nerve to send his helper back to my door for a $10 can of spackle. Y'all, I gave this man 60% of the job cost and on the 3rd day of him working in my master bedroom and asking him to be timely and clean, he quits mid sentence. This is theft. Strongly caution you against hiring this man. Let my lesson and the stupid tax I am paying save you the pain and the $.

They came out to inspect my roof within two hours, on a weekend. The quote was reasonable and the owner and a crew member fixed my missing shingles in under 30 minutes. Fast and competent, and the owner was friendly enough to chat with me for a few minutes, even though his wife had told me earlier they were extremely busy doing estimates and on the spot repairs all day. I would definitely call them again should I need another roof repair in the future.

We had contracted with Robert and his company to remodel two bathrooms. One of the bathrooms was going to have a bathtub to shower conversion. I'm from another state, and when you have a tub/shower conversion, the drain must be moved to the center of the shower. Apparently this isn't the same rule for Texas. Instead of explaining this to me, he decided I was going to be trouble for him, so he cancelled the contract. It took him 3 weeks to give me my deposit back and made it very difficult for me to hire someone else to do the job without knowing if I would get it back. I was texting with him and emailing so I would have everything in writing if I needed it. When he got angry with me, he called me on the phone and literally yelled at me (probably so I wouldn't have it on record). It took me a while to post this because I don't like to leave negative reviews. I just wouldn't want someone else to go through what I did.
