Fast and competent, and the owner was friendly enough to chat with me for a few minutes, even though his wife had told me earlier they were extremely busy doing estimates and on the spot repairs all day. He basically led us through all of the steps. This job was done in August in 100 plus degree temperature on top of the roof. His crew worked very diligently with very few breaks. The crew was respectful of your property by laying down extra plastic sheets And moving around plants as needed. After the job, they had a lady come through for additional clean-up as well as attempting to pick up the extra nails. I also had roof rats in the attic even though I had previously had it professionally sealed. A friend recommended Bill and he came out the next day to check. He said the roof was fine but that the mushroom vents looked like they had not been replaced the last time the roof was done. He showed me one that was crushed and the plastic mesh collars that had deteriorated and were falling apart. These were very likely spots that the rats were getting into the attic. He checked the metal flashing around the house to make sure everything was sealed. Within a few days, the crew was out and had everything fixed. The service was excellent and professional. And the cost was less than I expected! It is rare for a company to tell you that you don't need something done!

I had heard good things about Eric and Horizon Construction so I asked him to come and provide a bid. He arrived on time (actually a few minutes early) and got right to work! He inspected the roof and not only gave us a bid, but valuable information on what to put in the contract in case the seller went with a different contractor. Eric is extremely knowledgable and glad to share his knowledge, in his quiet and unassuming manner. Unfortunately, the seller of the house opted for a contractor he has used in the past. When the roof was on, we had Eric come inspect it and he found some issues with the job done by the other contractor (things like rotten plywood under new shingles, cheap seals that only last 5-8 years in the TX sun, old and frozen vents that weren't removed that will allow rain into the attic, etc). He worked up a full report for us showing the problems and saved us a lot of money in the process. He's very focused on providing quality work and being fair and reasonable in his pricing. From our interactions, I can tell he loves what he does and has a passion for it - something that makes him great at it! You used an inflated estimate and knowingly exploited it to extract every possible penny. You were fully aware that this estimate was inflated and did not accurately represent the actual cost of roof replacement. You also knew that due to my specific policy, you were not working with the insurance company; this was essentially a cash job. You were also aware that I would be out of pocket above the insurance payment. You chose to take a calculated risk that I would not be prudent enough to obtain multiple estimates. All three additional estimates were $17,000 lower than yours. Had you adopted a different business model, we wouldn't be facing this issue, and you would have earned my business. That was entirely your decision. It was also my decision not to work with a contractor who would knowingly and intentionally attempt to maximize his earnings, if possible, at the expense of the homeowner. I would have been at a significant disadvantage had I proceeded with you. You would have been the sole beneficiary of that working relationship. Additionally, I have documentation that clearly states that you explicitly stated this was your fee. Regarding your "business decision" to cut your losses, you and I both know that's not what transpired. You are not out any money. You were not supposed to pass that fee on to customers in the first place. That is your fee to pay. In fact, you were informed that you are not permitted to pass that fee on to customers in the future, which you agreed not to do
