Ate here twice during my recent weekend in Maine because of the convenient location near the Bangor airport and of course, delicious food! The lobster roll was pretty much as good as it gets. Plenty of meat with the perfect amount of mayo and a soft yet crisp buttery bun. The fried belly clams were also fantastic and a generous portion. Fries were crispy and piping hot and love that they have malt vinegar on the tables. My only gripe was that the clam chowder could use a bit more salt but otherwise an awesome little place with quality seafood. Recommend! read more

Fries cooked perfectly. Generous helping of lobster in the roll, which was slightly above average in terms of taste. $16 gets you a basic roll, no fries, so I've had better deals and I've had (slightly) worse. Food came fast. I don't love the road it is on, but that's pretty much my only negative. Good random find! read more

If you would like to see just how bad and cheap their food is order a baby shrimp dinner at McLaughlin's and then drive down the road to angler's in Hamden and order the same thing. We stopped by for lunch and would gladly stop by any time we are in the area. We had the calamari and shrimp baskets, lobster rolls, and clam chowder. The lobster rolls were cooked perfectly and ultra fresh. The kids loved their shrimp and calamari. The chowder was good but a little thin for my liking, both in texture and flavor. The bonus was they had locally made whoopie pies! You can also buy fresh seafood to take and cook at home. Overall, this is a great, no frills seafood spot. read more

Stopped in at McLaughlin Seafood for lunch yesterday and the food was as good as the last time. It was a cool, damp day and the outside seating was just a little brisk. I ordered the Haddock Basket for $10.95 (a great deal) and it arrived quickly, piping hot from the fryer. It was huge - I got 5 good sized pieces of haddock, a pile of fries and a cup of coleslaw. The fried food wasn't the least bit greasy, and they serve malt vinegar for the fries.. This is a little local shack on the side of the road. Seemed to be popular among locals and tourists. You place your order at the window and they have few picnic tables to sit down. I had lobster quesadilla which had pieces of lobster and cheese. It was good but not great. I ate the lobster here and I was not impressed mainly because we showed up at 7:30 and they close at 8:00 we were kindly told(in one form or another) to hurry up ( we had not even be there 3 mins) because they are closing soon. When I ordered the lobster the gentleman working almost seemed up set that I ordered something that actually took time to prep / cook. When I finally got my meal I was not given my drink I paid for yet so I went back up to the window to get it and no one was there. Maybe I was expecting too much after reading the reviews?? I was not impressed with the food at all! I ordered a combo plate of tenderloin clams and shrimp. The clams were tough and reminded me of something you'd get out of the freezer section at the grocery store. The shrimp was good, but the breading had too much of a buttery taste, which I did enjoy at first, but then the taste was over powering. My husband ordered the scallop special, they were mushy inside. Not impressed with our $42.00 lunch. I will try the Marina location before I rule McLaughlin's out completely. read more

Fresh, perfectly prepared seafood dishes with outstanding service! Everyone is super friendly which always makes the experience that much better. The menu is spot on with so many things I am dying to still try but as many of the comments have also indicated the lobster roll really is a must! They also recommend a wine called The Oyster that pairs brilliantly with all the dishes and also leaves us waiting more! For a restaurant that specializes in seafood, this is not that great. The lobster stew was awful, and for $13 it should have been spectacular. It tasted very "fishy" and not at all like lobster. No real flavor to it at all. It was like fishy lobster meat in milk. Yuck. We didn't eat more than a couple of bites. The other food we ordered was just so-so. Linguine and white clam sauce was dry, there was no sauce on it at all. Forgot to put the white wine and herb sauce on it worse meal ever.

I eat out alot. I've worked in the food industry and for great chefs as well as a food critic. This food was disappointing and lacked any flavor. First, if you're selling quality seafood you should be making a decent tartar sauce. The prepackaged stuff is awful and doesn't compliment the seafood. Tarter sauce is cheap and easy to make, no excuse for using sub par stuff when you're serving very expensive seafood. Second, potato salad is bland. Huge chunks of potato with mayo only. No other ingredients or salt and pepper. Third, haddock is not a dark meat fish, and that's what I got. The batter was thick and gooey on the inside. No salt in batter or on fish prior to dipping in batter. Seafood requires sea salt to bring out the flavor. Without it, it's bland. Fourth, fries should be crispy outside with soft potato inside. Mine were fried clean through, tough, and again no salt and bland. Lastly, the napkin was under all the food so I had a greasy napkin to wipe my hands. 3/4 of the meal went in the trash. High prices, $20 for a clam basket. Any decent restaurant would be cheaper and offer potato variations, veggy and roll, plus have decent tarter sauce. read more

This is the best place to get seafood anywhere around Bangor. This take-out restaurant is regularly busy assuring you that everything is a fresh as it gets, which is very important to me. The picnic tables under a canopy give you a fun and casual setting. I do not find the prices high at all, because you get what you pay for, and if you want a hamburger it is just as competitive as anywhere. If you want more luxurious dining with a full beverage service, McLaughlin's at the Marina is just down the road off Main Street in Hampden. Between the two locations I find this business really a great value for really good food. read more

Our lobsters arrived in great shape and we celebrated my husbands retirement in style. As a transplanted Mainer, living in Kentucky, this was a trip home for our taste buds. I am a long time customer. Today I ordered a lobster roll at your Main St takeout in Bangor. If it had more than two ounces of lobster in it I would be surprised. It was about half of your normal amount of lobster. Your counter person seemed to think it okay. $18.00 and it was, literally, 3 small bites. Very disappointed in the lobster roll. Even more disappointed that your employees didn't care. We have been customers of yours for years at both Bangor locations and have always been satisfied but not today. read more

I'm forced to give this place one star. They don't deserve it! I called to see how much the steamed lobsters are and when they are open until. I was told they close at 6 and they will steam the lobster for an additional $2 - which was ok. But when I get at 5:30, I told the guy that I was the one who called about the steamed lobster 30 minutes before. He said he could not steam them because he was leaving at 6. They should say they close at 5. Skip this place. Go to Captain Nicks. The lobsters are the same price and they will steam them for free. read more

What a delight. My younger sister was in from California and my older sister was in from Montreal. We asked at our hotel were we could get lobsters. There was no delay in the response. McLaughlin is a road-side seafood shack that has a limited menu of platters, rolls, burgers, and soups served with fries, coleslaw, and other small sides. There's a tiny store next door where they sell fresh fish and seafood by the pound. At McLaughlin, you order at the counter and eat at one of the picnic-style benches under the wooden canopy. Like the venue, the food is without frills. The lobster roll was small and plain; definitely not worth $16 in my opinion. The scallop roll is my favorite choice so far, with a handful of large, lightly fried mollusks that go well with the soft bread and pungent tartar sauce. The grilled haddock burger was fairly good as well, with a thick, sauce-less filet between two buns. They don't use much seasoning at all, preferring to let the seafood speak for itself. I usually get thick and cinammon-y sweet potato fries on the side (costs extra). The food is pretty good but quite expensive given the small portions and casual environment. read more

Just called to get current prices, and when I asked for the price of Littleneck Clams, the guy on the phone said "you mean steamers?" (Totally different variety) I answered; "No. Littlenecks," and he said "never heard of them." I said; "There are steamers, mahogany, quahogs-- I'm looking for the price on Littlenecks." He replied; "Never heard of them so I guess we don't have them." They are a fish market.... Hannaford stocks them AND knows exactly what variety of clam they are. Suggestion: Hire people who know the common varieties. He was also impolite. He answered; "McLaughlins." No intonation or greeting. Not even a simple; "May I help you?" He sounded busy & bothered.
