Our furnace went out on December 23. Called around. Big names came out for the sales pitch. Some were very high cost and couldn't come out for more than a month. My 103 year old mother lives with me and we needed help right away. JD at McKay had responded to my Yelp plea near-instantly, the first when others took a day or two to respond. He was already in favor. Not only was his bid much more reasonable, he said he would come out over the New Years holiday and get the heat back on for us. The next closest appointment available by the big names was 1/16. It snowed heavily New Years weekend and we sent them off the first afternoon knowing they would be challenged on the snowy and icy roads. They came first thing the next day, the New Years holiday, Monday 1/2/23, and worked hard all day long. At 5:30p the system fired up and we were out of our desperation. JD is a great communicator. Responded right away to Yelp messages and texts. Very respectful, sincere and helpful. read more

Update So 2 years later I finally have this installed correctly. McKay did not install some small parts in water line, in addition to all the rest of the mess they created. The place that made the final and lasting repair-put it in writing that McKay caused the damage. As did his insurance. Whatever you do - do NOT let JD McKay onto your property. He is a conman full of BS! read more

Last week it became apparent that we would need to replace our 29 year old gas furnace so using " Angi " we came up with 3 companies to call for inspect and quotes. We decided on McKay Air Conditioning and are delighted with our choice !! Not only was the price right but owner JD McKay was really punctual when it came to visits and and phone correspondence. After contacting him Thursday evening to let him know we chose his company for the job he said they could be at our house Saturday morning by 9:30 AM and they were. They installed the new unit by the time he said they would and left the area as neat and clean as they found it ( no carpet dirt or damage ) JD and installer Jason W. are knowledgeable and efficient in what they do and also display superior customer relations skills. I highly recommend JD McKAY AIR CONDITIONING @775-515-5606 for any and all work of this type. Marc Dymond read more

Not properly licensed in Nevada. Check the contractors board if you don't believe me. No longer has a California license either. Shady practices if you ask me! read more

Would definitely recommend McKay Air Conditioning. JD arrived as scheduled and on very short notice. He identified the issue within minutes and had the part on hand for replacement. He was very upfront with the process and prices. Will definitely call McKay again if we have HVAC needs. read more

I guess a lot can change in a year. He barely looked at our unit in our new house and within 5 minutes said we needed an entire new system. Got a second opinion and everything was fixed for less than $200. Don't recommend! read more

My grandmothers AC stopped working and she was referred to McKay, but we have yet to see a technician as the first attempt he told us he was coming from Reno when he actually was about to pull up at my grandmothers house in Dayton. My husband went over to her house to wait for him for almost 2 hours and we never once got a call that he was actually at the property, all he did was leave a card at the door. My grandmother called to reschedule, he said he would be here this morning at 7am..... he must be really lost this time because he has yet to show up. Terrible customer service and pretty sure my husband who is not licensed to work on AC units fixed the problem so thanks for nothing. 10/10 would not recommend, regardless of the job he could of done he doesn't even show up when he says he will! read more

Just want to give a big shout out to JD with McKay Air Conditioning. He does a wonderful job! Came over on a holiday to look at my ac, gave me a quote and was out here in 103 degree heat replacing it! Very responsive, professional, and polite. He gave us a very reasonable price and was most responsive. Don't know any business that can beat that! Thank you JD, I hope your business thrives! read more

McKay Air Conditioning - Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC Near Me

JD is awesome in every way. He knows his stuff with 30 years experience. He is reliable, personable and fair with pricing. Definitely better than the big companies who gouge you. Highly recommend McKay Air Conditioning. He came to my house immediately (in between jobs) and assessed my air conditioning problem. Without trying to sell me a new unit, he found that it was a circuitboard problem. My unit is 25 years old and found one in another state. When it arrives he fixed it and was honest about the rest of the parts looking good and didn't try to sell me a new unit. Thanks JD!! read more

JD is a very professional and caring tradesman. We had issues with our furnace. The burners would shut off and just the fan would work. After 2 visits the problem seemed to be resolved as not a malfunctioning furnace. But it turned out the ecobee thermostat was defective. After a very cold night when the house temp reached 52° JD responded at 7:30 am and swapped our old thermostat for us. You can trust a guy who is empathetic to our basic needs. And knows his stuff. JD at a point could have, like some others, BS'd us into a $5,000 to $12,000 furnace replacement. That's JD. read more

JD was prompt professional and reasonable. Would highly recommend I have heat again.

Our furnace went out a few weeks back. Mkcay air was the 3rd company to come look at it. Wanted to shop around some. He was able to beat Sierra air and Lincoln on the price. i had them do it, turned out great, absolutley no issues thanks to his great technicians. Nice and warm again, would highly recommend JD Mckay with McCay air for any of your hvac problems. read more

J.D. McKay is one of the most professional, knowledgeable, and courteous technicians that I have had in my home. He came out on a Sunday morning to work on both of my heating systems getting the hydronic system going again and diagnosing the forced air system He will definitely be my GO TO company for all of my current and future heating and cooling needs. read more

Last week, I noticed a lot water was dripping from the ceiling where our HVAC system is located. Mind you, it was Saturday and not many wanted to come by to take a look at the problem. I frantically searched for a company to resolve the issue, I happened to come across McKay Air Conditioning on Yelp and I am so glad I did. JD, the owner of this business went go above and beyond for me. I had a lot of questions to ask about our HVAC furnace and he answered EVERY questions. Came by my place on the SAME day, right ON TIME. Although I didn't like the outcome of the situation because I had to replace my 17 year old furnace, but he got the job done; a nice brand new furnace to go along with it. Some of the companies I called and asked for quotes - they were actually higher and some of them didn't even bother to get back to me. If you got some A/C of furnace problems, JD is the man. read more

My air conditioning unit went on the fritz and McKay Air Conditioning was able to come out the very next day and fix the problem. Very personable technicians. I was warned that the unit is very old (I was aware of that) and that the fix might not last. But, so far so good. read more

We were really stuck. We needed a new furnace, and we couldn't find a reliable service provider up on the mountain in South Lake Tahoe. Then we got really lucky in finding McKay down in the valley. JD and his crew went above and beyond with great communication and great service from start to finish. I won't bore you with the details, but it was a complicated job, but they never hesitated, and they made several trips to ensure we were completely satisfied. We couldn't recommend them more highly! read more

I found this company on Yelp. Heatwave and air conditioner on the fritz. With houseguests arriving. Potential disaster. I called. He answered. He came right when he said he would. He figured out the problem, went and got a new part, and put it in. Problem solved! The price was quite reasonable. He called to follow up on how the AC was working. A great experience. read more

Furnace died.. of course when it was supposed to be 9 that night. JD responded quickly and came out that same day.. 24 hours later we were warm and toasty! JD kept me updated on each step- from his arrival to confirming furnace availability and install timing. JD and Nate were great. And while I hope I have no future issues, would call in a second and definitely recommend! read more

In this month of June 2021, Northern Nevada experienced once again another heat wave. Of course during these times your AC must go on the blink. Father's Day weekend, and very hot triple digit numbers in Northern Nevada. Late in the evening made a call to McKays plumbing and got to speak with JD. Very knowledgeable and was out within hours. Had my AC unit up and running within one hour and pricing, experience, knowledge ability, and personality stands above all else. I highly recommend this company and look forward to doing business with them again. read more

I have a pleasant experienced with McKay Air conditioning. I got my duct installed last April, but 3 weeks ago, I got an issue and they fixed it right away. Thank you also for being honest and dedicated with your job. read more

My AC unit died Saturday night, so I waited until Sunday morning and tried to contact my previous "24/7" HVAC company (All Hours Air) who actually hung up on me after hearing my issue. This is when I reached out to yelp to find another HVAC company. JD McKay of McKay Air Conditioning was the first to respond and quickly set up an early morning appointment that coming Monday. JD was able to troubleshoot the issue and had the AC unit up and running in less than 30 minutes. Given his availability and quick turnaround of the issue, I will certainly reach out to this company again for similar problems. read more

DO NOT USE!! Not a licensed HVAC contractor. In fact failed his HVAC test for Nevada. His license is expired in California. He is a scam artist and I have the Nevada contractors Board investigating him as well as complaints with the Reno Building dept about him and his company. He sends unqualified and unskilled people to your house that look like they were just released from county. That's putting it nicely. He won't respond to you if there is a problem and he won't provide you with written estimates or invoices because he is not licensed. Call the contractors board and look him up. They even told me not to use him and they told me he failed his HVAC test for Nevada. There is a reason he is the cheapest. I could go on and on but this is enough. I am seeking further action against him so he won't be able to scam anyone else. I do not take pleasure in trashing someone else or their business but this guy deserves everything coming to him. He is scamming people and I take serious offense to that and I will put a stop to it. read more

This is a great company, quick response, very reasonable price, helped me a great deal, would recommend them anytime.

Excellant. JD was here bright and early, and the installation/replacement of my very old central AC went without a hitch. Very pleasant to deal with. read more

McKay Air Conditioning - Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC Near Me

John McKay came to fix our furnace, he said the motherboard was bad, so he put in a new one, that didn't work so he said the heat exchange was cracked, without ever seeing it, and told us we needed a new furnace. When we didn't agree with that he left wires hanging and took a part out of our furnace that he had no business taking and left. We had to call a real furnace company to fix it. They stated the heat exchange was not cracked!!! If you need your furnace worked on call someone that actually knows what they are doing. read more

Our Air conditioning unit stopped working so we shopped around and got several quotes to replace the HVAC system and our original 1986 gas furnace. JD McKay was prompt in getting me that quote and unlike the others he was able to schedule the replacement within just a few days. Installation was done very quickly and done very professionally. I highly recommend their service. read more

Avoid this place if you want quality work. First of all, they are unpunctual, they took over 2 weeks to replace an old a/c. They lie about the unit details. They left a mess in the attic, a crack on the wall where the external unit is. Just don't get their service. I had such a bad experience with this guys.. JD is very unprofessional. read more

I'm impressed. Usually, these days, it's very hard to get good HVAC companies to respond quickly and at a reasonable price. JD answered the phone right away, provided me with the lowest bid for a new furnace (the same model) and then put in the unit the next day, promptly, just when he said he would. He also walked me through the registration process. His team left the place very clean and the unit is working great so far. read more

Our old A/C unit crapped out on us in the midst of the hottest days on record (Murphy's law caught us again). We called a couple companies and JD McKay was the only one that would even try to come see us in less than 10 days. Not only did he come out the next day, he tested the system, figured out what we needed and had it all ordered while he was still here. He came back the following day and replaced our entire HVAC system in one afternoon. As someone in the trades that works to provide the best possible customer experience I truly appreciate the care and effort JD put into the job for us. We will not only call JD for any HVAC work we need but we'll recommend him to anyone and everyone we talk to about heating and A/C. Thanks JD! read more

Our AC system stopped working right when the temperature started rising. McKay Air Conditioning was here within an hour of my call and fixed the issue with the furnace very quickly. I am very grateful for their quick response time as the temperature was nearing 100 degrees. At first I tried calling a different HVAC company, and their estimated time was 5 days in the future. Highly recommend! read more

We've now used McKay three times for everything from fixing a slow AC to installing an entire brand new 4 ton AC including all new ductwork. Our thermostat broke in the middle of a heat wave. He was out the next day (it was not urgent) and had our new thermostat installed in nothing flat. Mr McKay is a great value. Living in an mfg home and in Stagecoach nv can be a real challenge getting help or service but JD came through with better and faster service than most the other companies we contacted. I was beyond impressed with McKay Air! They replaced my furnace and AC coil at a fair price and in record time. JD (the owner) is extremely professional, fair and does a great job explaining the details of the project. His technicians (Donald and Oscar) were extremely polite and skilled. They even swept up the work area and helped me reconfigure my Nest thermostat at the end. I will for sure be using McKay Air again and recommend them to all my friends and family. read more

During this current heat wave, we did not expect anyone to show up for a week or two, but McKay was at our house the same day we called. JT was very professional, and experienced; their rates were very fair and honest. We now have a 'goto' heating/air business, I believe we can rely on. We will recommend them to our neighbors as well! read more
