My worst fear about living here came true. Sunday night, July 24, 2022. The central air conditioning quit blowing cold air. Yeah, that's my worst fear about living in the high desert in summer. I opened windows and put a couple big fans near my bed. Couldn't fall asleep. Got up, went to my home office downstairs and submitted a service request to Doug Anderson Property Management, the people who handle this house for the owner. Got a lot of work done. At 9 a.m. Monday, July 25th, when the property management office opened, I called to make sure they would immediately contact their A/C repair vendor, which turned out to be Working Class Heating & Air, of Lancaster. I called, spoke with Stephanie, and she said they're booked solid for that day but she'd try to squeeze me in for a technician's visit. Later, I got a text which said to expect a visit between noon and 4 p.m. In my first-floor office, I had the fans aimed at me as the house neared a temperature that could bake pizza. I guzzled cold water. And then I saw an SUV show up. The technician, Matthew Grubb, emerged and I led him to the back yard unit. He quickly diagnosed the problem as a failed fan motor. He told me he could install a new one on Wednesday, provided Doug Anderson's people issued the work order. That meant two nights in a hotel. Stephanie texted: "I've submitted an estimate to Doug Anderson Property Management. If they approve, we will be there Weds." "If they want the rent money, they'd better approve!" was my reply. I was in a foul mood. I booked the local Best Western. I packed up for my hotel stay. I'd work from the hotel. At the front desk, I handed the lady my registration info. "I'm local," I said. "My wife kicked me out of the house, so I'm staying two nights with you," Her eyes popped up to meet mine. "I'm kidding. My A/C broke." (I'm single). I hauled everything to room 317...where it turned out the room A/C was unresponsive to the thermostat's cool/off/heat control. It ran cold all the time. I froze. How's that for irony? By the time I crashed, I'd been up for 36 hours. Tuesday morning, July 26th, I visited the property management office to make sure they authorized the repair. They did. Stephanie said the approval came through and they would be on site between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thank god for small bureaucratic miracles. Tuesday night, I had some success with sleeping in arctic temperatures. Matthew rolled into my driveway early, at 10:30 Wednesday morning, July 27th. He swapped out the fan motor, tested the coolant level, and hooked up a pressurized gas container to top it off. His work was flawless. Stephanie exhibited perfect customer service. Attentive and helpful. It doesn't get any better than this. Thank you, Working Class HVAC. Matthew left to take care of other desperate customers. And finally, I sit here in 72-degree bliss. When I contacted to inquire about a possible problem with my heater, I was told that Kyle was running on time. I informed them that if he did arrive later, someone over the age of 18 would be present because I had to pick up my children between two certain times (30 minutes). Of course, he arrived just as I was about to leave, which caused me to be late because I had to explain the situation to him. He was here for ten minutes (love my doorbell camera). Yes, there is a minor issue with the heater. It's making noises, and the inducer motor might break at some point. He didn't even wait to tell me or the 18-year-old at home in person. I had to text to find out what the problem was, or if there even was one. Literally in my house for less than 10 minutes, $75? But hay, I have ease of mind that there IS something going on...which WAS kinda obvious. I will not be having them fix it though; I feel like I might be getting overcharged. Make sure you have a legit $75 question before calling these people. --update-- So I went up and checked the heater out for myself, and here is the issue: https://clipchamp.com/watch/lCNlyz8mGuZ I attached my estimate, my hope is that others will get a better idea for themselves... --update 2-- I ended up taking the motorized blower out and spinning it around, and nothing really seemed wrong with it except for that noise you hear in the video clip. When it is on and spinning, the sound is just really amplified. I lightly sprayed some WD-40 in it and cleaned it up a bit. When replacing it, I bought a small package of insulation and replaced what was there between it and the main heater. The old insulation was just raggedy, and I also stuffed some insulation on the outside of the heater between two pieces of outside heating exhaust ducts that seemed to rattle together some. There is still some noise, but it is significantly less. At least I do not notice it when I am sleeping. If you made it this far, I hope this has helped. Thank you for reading! read more

Unfortunately if I could give this company a 0 rating I would. Let's start with the fact that I was scheduled to be serviced at 4-6pm by the receptionist. I agreed and then was contacted early in the morning while grocery shopping to see if I can rush back home since the technician was running early and I was next. Although I was not done with my shopping I rushed home to have a set of two male technicians come to my home and "tune up" or service my furnace as I requested from my home warranty. I mentioned to them I was concerned as sometimes my furnace wouldn't blow out hot air, he went around the house "opened" my vents on the floors and then told me it was a filter and coil issue offered no solution other than it would run anywhere from 200-400 for the service to clean them out and would have to be done on a different day. Not knowing any better I agreed to contact home warranty and price out the parts to clean and or replace "coils". Was told the home warranty would not cover and therefor if I wanted it done had to pay out of pocket. On that note when I went to Home Depot I was told by a nice employee that there were no coils in a furnace that those are only on A/C systems (later also confirmed by another hvac company). As I call the home warranty back and explain the situation they tell me that they would send another company out and if indeed it was the coils I would have to fix that and pay extra for another service call. If it was not the coils they would cover the whole repair. Well after that call my whole furnace goes out. Thankfully the other company that came in was able to place me on the schedule for next day and actually worked on my furnace and repaired the issue I had heat within hours. To make things worse, I get a call after two male technicians had left my home stating that the company was sorry for making me rush home but the technicians had ran into an issue and were going to be delayed until my original service time 4-6pm. I mentioned to them "well two male technicians stating they were from your company just left." My brain goes in overdrive freaking out because I was certain they were from the company but then why would the front desk call me saying they were delayed. Worst FEAR , accomplished. I called my husband to come home quickly because I was afraid I've let in two weirdos into our home. Nope, it wasn't weirdos the company was just that disorganized. So very grateful to Working Class Heating & Air & their amazing tech Kyle. My a/c unit quit July 21st. Then shortly after the furnace crapped the bed as well. After being ghosted by the first company the home warranty company sent out (Alliance Heating and Air-they suck don't ever deal with these con artists), my home warranty company sent out Working Class. Where do I start ! Mathew is simply amazing. I am new to the Palmdale area and needed some light- moderate HVAC work done on our new home. I looked up almost all local companies, talked to a few, received estimates from a handful. Finally I decided to go with Mathew for the following reasons. 1. The man is an amazing human being. He is extremely perceptive, kind and honest. He has a very warm and friendly demeanor while remaining professional. 2. The quote I got was reasonable, fair. 3. I needed two outdoor compressor units to be raised. All other companies made it such a huge 'project' that would include disconnection of the units, emptying and refilling Freon, etc etc. or in other words more money. Matt came up with a way more economical solution for quarter the price. A solution that worked well. 4. I needed two ecobee 4's installed and the possibility of a whole house humidifier installed as well. All other companies claimed to be 'experts' with smart thermostats. I might be a first time home owner but I do my research and know my stuff. A few question to these guys and I could immediately tell they were far from the experts they claimed to be. One company even hilariously said "it will take anywhere from 2 hours (maybe up to 5 - depending on what, I wish I knew) to make sure everything is set up well. We do charge an hourly rate no matter how long it might take." Or in other words they will learn on the job and charge me for it. Matt on the other hand told me he is an expert at installing the thermostat physically, but that I should set it up myself. He did the installation for a flat fee and despite his modesty he turned out to be quite the expert at setting up the Ecobee too ! I've been working with Mathew on more advanced installations and I can certify that he has solid, concrete knowledge of what he does. He will not claim to know something he does not know. Even better he will do his research, come back as a seasoned expert within no time. I truly admire his willingness and passion to learn more. I so highly recommend Mathew and his crew. This place was fine at the outset. Reasonably priced and quick to get things installed for us. We got a new heater and air conditioning. They had to come back twice, first because the air conditioning stopped working and secondly because the pilot light was never lit(although we can take responsibility for that part as we never checked). Several months later my husband walked by the heater and noticed a gas smell. We called the gas company and they promptly arrived, informing us that it looked like the heater had been installed in a hurry because everything was loose. Nothing had been caulked. Luckily the man from the gas company corrected this. They offered to come correct this issue but it was already taken care of. read more
