I asked Joe to put in a vacuum pump for my brake booster (Jeep Cherokee, 1988) since I had less than good brakes. This was a custom job: he had to find a location for the pump, and then do the wiring so that my brake pedal would activate the pump and then the brakes. after $1019.00 0n a flat rate 2.5 hour job n beingvwithout my car for a week the chief mechanic finally had the time to order 2 new transmission shift modules n replace them not knowing if this would remedy the problem. Luckily it did! we changed my Transmission fluid n put a Lucas additive to make up for the wear n tear created by300,000 plus miles of mostly freeway driving ! They did the replacement based on what the computer in my car told them was required not from experience! please do not rely on U tube videos to tell u how easy something is to change out, this wasn't the case n the modules were located in the outer part of the transmission and not within the pan. read more

Started with an F-150 that I had them lift, then lost that truck and brought them a GX470 to lift. They haven't hestitated to lift them, repair them, or do custom work when needed (more recently lost a wheel on the highway after doing work myself, and needed the shock cut off of the axle housing, a new bracket fabricated, and new struts added). I seldom write reviews. But this place deserves my time and commendation. I have ALWAYS taken my car to factory dealers to have my cars worked on. I have never trusted or have been willing to risk using a local, non-OEM mechanic. The subsequent result of that is hefty premiums and high costs, for even relatively simple tasks. A friend referred me to McGuinness, when I otherwise couldn't find an alternative within the required time. Skeptical, I was out of options. Suffice to say, that one experience, has resulted in 10 years of faithful patronage to McGuinness. If it's their fault, they'll make it right. If they can find a more affordable alternative, they'll offer it up (even at the expense of making more money). In short, they are always determined to do what is fair, honest and integrous. I called around to find a mechanic that I felt comfortable with and was going to give me fair quotes. I decided to go with McGuinnes and I am so glad I did. I have had my BMW serviced here a few times. A friendly staff and so forth, but I question whether the mechanics have all of the latest technology needed to make repairs in a timely fashion. I left my car there with an ABS issue that took a WEEK to get diagnosed. Their $400 solution was to reset the computer! I drove away and the ABS light came on. They actually didn't know what was wrong. A large BMW dealership caught the problem, did the repair, and also gave me a report on other issues. That is good service. I've had a couple of things pop up with my old beloved Toyota of late and they understand what it is to see an old beauty fade (the 4-Runner). The service is top notch from this mechanical staff and they are not there to rip anyone off. It feels with this company like you have taken a step back in time where the local garage is your friend and we are all simply part of the fabric of a true community dynamic. I had a fairly minor issue. I got a quote, and was told the quote given is worst case scenario and could be lower. I made it clear that I needed the car back the same day because I needed to be somewhere that evening, I was told it would be done the same day. I have the car dropped off early in the morning. In the afternoon, I learn that the car will not be finished that day and nothing can be done about it. The reason given was that a part had to be made by another vendor; it made sense, but it would have been critical to know this prior to me dropping off the car and not at the last minute. I would have gone to Plan B if I had this critical information. No apology provided and no responsibility for oversight taken. I come to pick up the car, and I am surprised to learn that the bill is about 33% more than the quote provided. Explanation was that the shop had to pay the outside vendor. That may make sense, but this is information that should have been provided in advance. The shop should have obtained my consent prior to just sending off the order to the vendor and letting me know about it after-the-fact. Again, no apology nor responsibility taken for oversight.
