I've trusted our 1998 Ford Ranger, 2005 Toyota Camry, 1985 Mustang GT and 1967 Chevy Nova to Matt O'connell and have recommended his shop to others. Our 2014 Toyota Rav4 will also be taken to A1 if the need arises. You can talk to the owner and he doesn't roll his eyes at you. He listens to what you have to say then gives you his thoughts without being condescending. If something comes up during the repair Matt takes the time to call, fill you in and makes sure you understand what needs to be done.

It would have been easiest and more profitable for him if he would have just given the car a quick once over and do what many would have considered the most obvious and replaced the A/C compressor with it's large price tag. He took the time to determine that at a previous service, two O rings were installed that were the wrong thickness. I really trust Matt and recommend A-1 to everybody who needs their auto serviced or repaired. D. Lewis Monee, IL

The tow truck driver was a kind gentleman that had been towing for 30 years. He had some interesting things to say about the O'Hare Wrecking Service from Chicago that is currently on the Speed Channel...Wrecked TV show. He called them first to see if they could take me in...glad they did. Brian the owner was kind enough to get me right in...get the parts and send me on my way without the price gouging I have seen in some dealerships. Linda...his receptionist (and Mother-in law) was a hoot! She was entertaining to listen to and gave me a preferred customer discount...while Brian was away! Anyone in the Chicago area would benefit from the drive...to get their vehicle routinely worked on at their shop.

I went to start my car and discovered the battery was dead. AAA replaced the battery, and discovered the engine would crank but would not turn over. I needed to find a repair shop or make arrangements to ship it home. I began a Google search and quickly began calling "classic auto repair shops", asking for help. The replies ranged from "We can't take you for 2 weeks" to "We don't work on cars that old". I finally dialed Old School Classics in Monee IL. Bruce listened patiently to my predicament and said he would help. I had the car towed from downtown Chicago to his shop in Monee. Bruce greeted me and began working on it right away, with help from Mike and Ray. By the end of the day Bruce had isolated the problem to the EFI control module, one of the many modifications I had made to improve performance. Bruce continued working on my car first thing next morning. He reached technical support at Holley, who helped him verify that that the ECM module was fine. They directed Bruce to a hidden relay that tested bad. After replacing the relay, the engine fired up perfectly. I was very grateful to pay this bill, be on my way and avoid a $4,000 charge to ship the car back home. My car ran perfectly for the 2,000 mi trip back to Los Angeles. Bruce, Mike, and Ray are honest "Old School" people. You can trust their expertise. They deliver excellent service quickly and efficiently.
