Update! I have since brought my car to another shop and it turns out that I needed a new A/C compressor the whole damn time. Mechanics test pressures in different parts of the system and it was very obvious to this shop what the problem is, so Herman Auto never even did the tests. They just told me that with an old car, I have to accept these things. Nope, not so. The car also needed a catalytic converter. Herman Auto replaced the pipe between the cat converter and the muffler but didn't check the exhaust system after that repair like they said they did. I said that I needed it to pass an emissions test and was assured that it would, but right after the repair, another check engine light came on and I had the code checked at Master Auto Parts in Frankfort, who told me that there was a problem with the catalytic converter and that it most certainly would not pass an emissions test. I do not trust this shop. They took nothing but shortcuts with my car and then lied to me about it to my face. I have sent a letter to the owner outlining my whole ordeal and will update if they do anything to try for goodwill with me. read more

Honest. When can you truly use this word with confidence when talking about an auto repair shop? Dang near never. We have trusted our cars to Herman's for years. They are always up-front and honest with us about the parameters of the work, the cost associated, and the turnaround time for the repairs. Example: I had a Saturn that seemed to need work on a regular basis. I had been going to someone in the city (closer to home at the time) with no luck when I decided to go back to Herman's. They called me after looking at it saying that it appeared that I needed a new ***insert part here*** but that it could probably wait a while and was a waste if I didn't plan to keep the car long (which I hadn't). In the meantime, the current problem I was having was due to a hose that needed to be flushed out. They'd already done it and the car was ready to go. No charge. I think the guy's words were "nah, don't worry about it. Took my guys about 30 seconds. Bring it back if it doesn't work out for ya" That, my friends, is how you do business. We were very lucky to come across Herman's, as it can be very expensive to deal with dishonest mechanics. They have always been honest, and they go through your options with you, explaining them thoroughly. We've been going to them for years, and have at times, left with no charge, due to there being no problems. A lot of people would've taken advantage of us, but they're genuinely honest. Called to get estimate on my front brakes on a 08 Acura n the man I talked to quoted me $497 just for front brakes if I need rotators n about $300 if not. Total rip off I guess because Im a woman. I can buy pads n rotor kit for $90. What the heck is labor $200 an hour? Beware women especially!!!! read more

I feel like I hit the jackpot when I went to Hermans! A longtime neighbor always spoke so highly that I decided to try them when my heat went out in January of this very cold winter. I first went to a dealership in town and was quoted a price of $2100. I said no thanks and went to Hermans. They were professional and friendly and fixed my car for 1/3 of what the dealership quoted me. AND gave me an oil change at no charge. Thank you so much for keeping me warm all winter! read more

We ended up at Herman's after our car died on the side of the highway. They were the nearest AAA approved auto shop, and lucky for us they were honest, friendly, and fair. They figured out the problem, had the necessary parts delivered, and fixed the car in about 2 hours, which is pretty good considering they had no idea we were coming! The price was very fair (we looked online to compare), and the quality of the repair was excellent. They even took the time to clean up some wires and put air in the tires (neither were issues related to the repair). Overall, I highly recommend Herman's and am happy that, if our car had to die, it died so close to this auto shop! read more

I have been going to Herman's for a few years now, and I have never had any issues. Numerous times I have taken it there because an oil change shop or the dealer told me I needed a ton of work that I ended up not needing after all. Their work is good, they guarantee it, and the pricing is great (much cheaper than the city). Herman's has saved me probably well over $1,000 in the past few years. My entire family takes their vehicles there and my Dad's company vehicles are serviced there as well. If only they were closer to the city! read more

We've been doing business with Heman's for many years[20+years].I've recommended them on several occasions to friends but that has come to a screeching hault.My daughter brought her vehicle in to be checked out for an oil pressure problem which glen said was a bad sensor. We told them to do the repair.We paid the bill drove the car home and the oil pressure light came back on.She immediately took the car back .They looked at it again and told her she needs a new motor.She drove the car 3 miles roundtrip.What gives.Seems to me you wouldn't charge somebody $400.00 for an oil sensor then 15min later tell them they need a new motor.I've got to ask Hermans what has happened to you guys? You used to do good work at fair prices.Now ,not so much. The last couple of visits have been suspect but this last one is the topper.It is sad what your business has become read more

We had a wonderful experience at Herman's Auto! We brought our car there, as it was recommended by several people, to seek the reason behind a failed emissions test. Not only did they solve the problem, but Phil took my car to emissions himself to be sure that it passed. It was more than affordable, and I appreciate the honesty that went into the process. Surprisingly, we used to be good customers of Herman's. Not sure what happened to them but we had a strange situation where both of our cars got sick at the same time. After $2700 worth of work on both, we were told one car needed another $1,200 worth of work to have the a/c work again. I took it to a place at my new location (we moved three weeks ago about 50 miles away) and they charged me a whole $175 for the job Herman's quoted me $1,200 for and the car works great now. Hermans also did a brake resurfacing on the other car about a month ago and this weekend the brakes started making a terrible noise and I was afraid to drive it. I took it to the new guys and, guess what, the resurfacing job Herman's did wasn't smooth and that was what was causing the problem. They asked if I wanted to take it back to where I had the work done originally -- uh, no, I'd rather just pay $100 for the new guys to fix the bad Herman's work. Sadly, Herman's used to be a good reliable place but something's changed over there. To be fair, I didn't give Herman's a chance to resurface the brakes (because I've completely lost trust in them). Just as another reviewer (Denise D) mentioned, they told me (after fixing the car and then finding more problems that needed to be fixed before the a/c would work again) that the car was old and I should just keep expecting to have to pay for repairs like this. Really? You couldn't have mentioned this to me before I spent the money? Again, not trying to trash what was once a great business but I really wouldn't send anyone I knew there for repairs. read more
