We broke down inside of the Pittsburgh International Airport and were unable to leave the airport property, not only did the Airport Authority tow us out of traffic and off the airport property, the Pittsburgh PD officer that was helping to provide traffic control and maintain our safety and security while stuck essentially ON the only exit out of the airport, gave us the recommendation of McGann and Chester Towing service because of their quick response and care for our safety. Not only were they kind and understanding of the situation we were in as well as taking into account the importance related to getting our car out of an unsafe situation, they genuinely were fast in their response time, understanding of our situation and willing to work with us when we realized that we needed to change where we were going to be towed to. The driver was kind, funny which helped diffuse the stress of the situation and was very considerate of our vehicle and our safety. My car was towed by McGann and Chester a few days ago. When I picked up my vehicle from the lot I walked around my vehicle to inspect it and found some scratches on my bumper. I filed a claim and a man named Tim sent me a photo of my car that his tow guys took before towing my car. He's insisting that the scratch was already there and is visible in the picture he sent to me as evidence. It most certainly is not a scratch, and I even enlarged the photo he sent to show him that whatever he was seeing is a reflection of something in the bumper. In fact, you can see the "scratch" reflected in two different spots on my bumper. Identical images. Despite presenting Tim with this he was unwilling to take responsibility for it and denied my claim. He told me that he didn't have time to argue with me about it and said that nothing I could say or show him would change his mind. To be honest, the damage to my bumper is relatively minor, and the cost to repair it is probably not too much. What is difficult for me to understand is why a company would choose to deny responsibility and risk damaging its reputation over something that could be resolved so easily and inexpensively. I'm not asking for anything unreasonable. My vehicle was in your company's care, and the bumper was scratched while you were handling it. I'm simply asking you to take responsibility for the damage and pay the reasonable cost of repairing it. Mistakes happen. What matters is how a company handles them. I would have expected your company to recognize that the right thing to do here is straightforward: acknowledge the damage, take responsibility, and repair it. Based on my experience with McGann and Chester I have no choice but to strongly advise that you take your business elsewhere. This business profits big off of poor people's misfortune and most of the workers don't know how to communicate clearly or even in a civilized manner. Edit: a few days later I noticed they charged me 150 more than what was on my receipt. I called to ask why and the lady lost her temper and was yelling! Turns out there was a reason, but it was not reflected on my receipt and lady treated me like I was dumb for asking. I was traveling to Pittsburgh for a Pirates game, after the game we stopped at a place called Mario's for a drink. We were being directed by a gentleman with an orange vest to park. Within 25 minutes, we left, and the vehicle was already towed. It was mind blowing, there is no planet where I will visit Pittsburgh. It definitely reeks of a scam/scheme. If you get towed by them, good luck Charlie. These are the rudest workers you'll ever meet. They make it's so difficult to get your car back. I had my car towed for the first time ever and was obviously stressed and freaking out. The workers were very mean to me and treated me poorly. Thank god my car wasn't damaged. As well, I was towed because I was parked in a no parking area due to construction BUT the signs were posted after I parked so that was nice. The one guy told me I need my registration and I said It's in my car then gave me attitude. Bad experience. In addition, this company will park themselves around Pittsburgh waiting to tow people. That's just sketchy. Due to these practices and rude behavior of employees and ridiculously high prices I cannot give them more than 1 Star. I'd give them zero. Learn how to treat people nicer...some people mistakenly park in areas or the city screws you over with random signs missing, you can't read/see, or signs that get out last minute. TL:DR: Wanted price info, dispatcher angrily told me to call 911. On Jan. 12th 2020 I had a car blocking my driveway. Called one tow company and said it's Pittsburgh Police business since they're parked on the street and not actually in my driveway. No biggie. I looked on the police website to find out that towing is handled by McGann and Chester on contract with the city. The CITY WEBSITE LISTS MCGANN & CHESTER'S PHONE NUMBER and so I called that number. I just wanted to know what it would take to get the car towed and the dispatcher told me to call 911. I said that seems extreme to call an emergency number for a car blocking the driveway and he said that's the process. I decided that hey, there's street parking and it's the lucky day for the guy blocking my driveway. I did want to know what it would have cost the blocker if I did have them towed, so I called McGann and Chester's back up. The dispatcher recognized me and yelled at me for blocking his lines. Like as though he was so busy towing cars that he couldn't give me a price. I asked him just for a price and he again told me to call 911. Really rude and unprofessional. Honestly I'm guessing I called during some football game the dispatcher was watching in his office, because there's no way these guys are that busy on a Sunday afternoon. If you're a city employee reading this and have ANY power over your contracts, consider setting some new expectations with the towing company that represents your city. This is a shameful business and doesn't deserve taxpayer's time or money. read more

They showed up to impound my car and never asked me for my keys they dragged my 04 ford expoler two car lengths and onto a flat bed truck. They ruin brand new tires, pull transmission while it was not in gear, imposed frame damage to front suspension and bent muffler. These guys should not be city impound, they are going to cost us alot of money. Either way I have lawyer lining up to take this case. To top it off PennDOT, said I never should of been stopped. On 11/20/21 I was run off the road. I was able to flag down an ambulance who assisted me. Not knowing what to do and who to call, they called RAY B with McGann & Chester. My car was towed by these guys by the city following an accident. I specifically stated that it was to go to my body shop of choice in the South Hills. It was sent to a body shop operated by the same company in Robinson Township! I specifically stated that it was to go to the South Hills! I spent quite a lot of time trying to figure out where my car was! Not a good situation! The car that was towed also requires a flatbed. Will take several days for them to get to it then, they will do 2 hours of diagnostics which is just them running your engine codes which you can do at auto zone but for free! instead of 185$. And then if your lucky when you go to pick it up they will be able to find it and bring it out under 30 minutes! And make sure to be as kind as possible just to be met with complete rudeness. There was a old man wandering around the lot asking people for rides because he said he thought the tow truck driver said he could ride him somewhere.. he couldn't figure out Uber or anything and I felt bad not being able to help because I picked up my vehicle in the same broken condition i dropped it off in. My car was towed by McGann & Chester Sunday evening. We called quickly about it, my car was still in transit. We were told on the phone 135.00, could be 170.00 if the tow was difficult. Well, my car was in an open area of zone 5 police department My vehicle wasn't in their lot for 10 minutes. Ok so we go to cashier to pay 135.00, and then were told the cost was 170.00! I honestly don't understand the bad rating. These are some of the nicest people I have ever come across. I have never had an experience with a towing company before this but they were all super helpful. A little backstory, while I was away on vacation my backed up parking tickets caught up to me and I got booted and towed. This IS NOT the people at McGann and Chester fault! They were doing their job. I'm not pissed at them one bit and I shouldn't be. I was careless and I paid for it. I feel like a lot of people up here are just blaming others for their carelessness. Anyway, get back from vacation and Rachel was so nice. We went and found my car and it had a flat :(. She just told me to drive it slowly around to garage and she filled the tire up. Turns out it had a leak so she got some guys from the auto shop who were really cool who put the spare on for me FOR FREE! You guys can say what you want but these people are kind from the young lady at the front desk to the auto shop guys in the back. Good people just doing their job and willing to help if you need it. They towed my car from an accident scene. Did not see my car for a week. They told me they did not have my car. Then after 4 days they had my car. When I went to collect my belongings out of my car about half of it was gone and some of the things that were missing was my Jordan 11s they were brand new in the box, gps, iPhone charger, and a couple of other things. so l got to talk to one of the owners of the company and his name was Bobby McGann and he told me " we are not responsible for the missing items." Mcgann and Chester has the nicest equipment I've ever seen. All of their trucks are show quality. They help me and my business with many different tasks from unlocking cars, unloading car carriers, towing cars, trucks and equipment. Mcgann and Chester is licensed, insured and most of all, experienced. A lot of these tow trucks out here are not licensed or insured to tow vehicles and are just out to take your money, but when they damage your property you will have a hard time collecting. You'll also be over charged and slammed with nonsense fees by some of these owner operator trucks. I was literally walking to my car to leave and saw the guy towing my car. He wasn't even in the truck, he was just chatting with the cop that was writing my ticket. Arrogant prick wouldn't let me have my car because it was "already on the truck" and made my friend drive me all the way to the lot. Could not have been happier about taking the car away from a 21 year old girl in a bad part of the city at night. It would have been no trouble at all for him to let my car back down, I was right there and about to leave. It's bad enough I have to pay a parking ticket, and my friend got rear ended on the liberty bridge on our way to get my car, and now her car has damage. So much unnecessary trouble. I had an experience identical to TK. Note to Yelpers - the 5 star reviews are clearly fake - do a bit of research (look at the user profiles) and it becomes clear. Note that TK refers to "Nicole's" experience, identical to his, which can not be found in the reviews, not sure how hers was deleted. McGann & Chester is a borderline-criminal enterprise. These guys are "authorized by the city" to tow after parking violations, but they actively seek violations, have an arrangement with the city to flag improperly parked cars, then tow the cars, primarily for rush-hour parking violations downtown. I have a Mercedes which is "my baby", which was towed by McGann and Chester and heavily damaged after the tow - basically identical circumstances to TK where there is an ambiguous sign. There are deep scratches on the hood and bumper (I keep my car in showroom condition, so I do know all of these). The receptionist was one of the worst people I have ever seen, and incompetent, making me wait for almost 2 hours to claim my car. I got my car back, and immediately showed the operator the deep, fresh scratches, and they said "oh it was like that." It was not like that, and I have pictures of the scratch-free car from a few days prior. The company denied all responsibility and the city directs you to deal with the company. I had to have a panel repainted and blended afterward. If you have a similar interaction to mine, Nicole, or TK, please complain to the city. They obviously have somehow lobbied Yelp to remove previous negative reviews (in past there were many more like mine, Nicole, and TK's experiences). I am in talks to have their city contract revoked (their lot was previously the Pittsburgh impound lot run by the city, before it was farmed out to the private enterprise). However, these people are rude, damage cars, and seemingly do it without recourse because there is no incentive to behave. AVOID McGANN AT ALL COSTS UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR CAR DAMAGED. read more

So incredibly rude. My car was towed due to a water main break on my street and Mcgann & Chester had my car. What should have been a simple refund turned into a two week fiasco. I called originally about the process of a refund and was told I could come pick up the check. I showed up to get my money back and they said no one was there to sign the check. So I agreed to have it mailed to my house. I called 3 days later to inquire about the check and they had no record of anything from the week before. After being redirected to 3 separate people and hung up on twice, someone informed me that the check was literally mailed to the wrong state. I called to inquire about the cost to get my car out of impound. I spoke to a man who only identified himself as the manager. After learning the cost I asked him if there were additional charges and he tells me it's 28 dollars a day. Of course I became irritated to learn that they were only open till 4pm on July 3 and closed July 4. Sorry but if they have people to tow 24/7 they should have someone also available to collect payment and release my car. But no, because of their crap hours I was out an extra 60 bucks. When I complained to this manager he said to me and I quote "LADY IF YOU WOULD SHUT YOUR MOUTH I COULD FINISH". Of course I was a bitchy customer I was frustrated and annoyed that I couldn't pick my car up for two days because of inadequate staffing. But I'm the customer and I don't give a crap that this manager didn't have the qualifications on how to deal with an irate customer. I worked in customer service for Verizon for 26 years so trust me I've had my share of critical callers and had I ever spoken to anyone the way this man spoke to me I would have been fired. He hung up on me. When I called back he did explain in a calmer tone but there was no apology. How this guy was ever promoted to manager is mind boggling. read more

Wow.... De ja vu Nicole! We experienced the same arrogance from McGann and Chester Towing. Horrible experience full of incompetence from start to end. They did not even know if they towed our car. We had to leave and come back because they could not radio their drivers or tell us if they had the car or not. Our car was towed due to conflicting signs when we parked downtown near the stadium. The sign that we parked in front of stated that we were good until 4pm. Unfortunately, there were signs on the other posts that stated we were only good until Noon. I believe the police may have changed their minds as to how early they wanted to prevent parking in that area, but failed to remove all of the old signs--there were at least 3-4 of them on other posts. When we returned to our car at 2pm, the car was gone. We took a picture of both signs to prove that we had not negligently ignored a sign, but it fell on deaf ears at McGann and Chester. They were so rude and arrogant that they only replied with, "We work for the police, take it up with them. The only way you get your car now is if you pay us." The woman behind the counter was the worst person I have ever dealt with. The manager is not much better. I cannot believe the police deal with these people. We are currently taking the issue up with the courts because it will be at least $250 or more, but that requires missing a day of work now as well. :-| That is one expensive bike ride along the water--I doubt we will be doing that again. The only upside is that we also called Roy Dean at the Municipal Investigations department. He was the nicest guy EVER! So understanding. A stand-up guy for sure. Here was the advice that we received: He cannot help us too much because we did not have any interactions with the police officer in which he could investigate. However, he did provide the following advice: - Chief of Police can release cars (but we already paid to have it released) - We should work with traffic court to find a day that we can go in (phone # on citation) - Bring ALL documentation -- including photographs - They will either reduce or refund the citation -- which we can then get a refund for the impound - If we have any problems we can call Roy back at: 412-255-2804 I wish everyone had been as kind and understanding as Roy. I implore that nobody give business to these soulless animals (to call them humans would be giving them far too much credit). After a day of work in Oakland, I came outside to see a fleet of this company's flashy little tow truck as accompanied by a slew Pittsburgh's most unruly pigs as they began to steal every single car on Forbes Ave. After realizing what was happening, I sprinted the three blocks to where my car was (near Arby's) to find two sub-humans beginning to load my car onto their truck. I said, "Please please stop," and the first animal said, "No, we've already started." The car was not yet even on the truck. I begged, "Please, please, I would do anything, just stop, please." "We're not stopping." I told them that if I paid their towing fee that it'd be unlikely that I'd be able to pay for food and housing additionally and they said noting. Not even so much as sorry. They drove off while I was still looking into their truck window talking. I've yet to go to get my car back and will write a follow up about the experience. read more
