Wanted to love it... but the energy didn't match the vibe…read more As someone currently studying digital marketing and building a career in social media management, I genuinely enjoy supporting local spots. I was especially excited to try Ducks aren't Real -- not just because of their cute branding and aesthetic space, but because I actually did a school project on them. I even created a presentation on how to improve their website. That connection made me want to support them even more. Their site says takeout is available every day from 4-9pm, so I called to place a simple order. The woman on the phone said, "I don't have time for that," in a tone that was blunt and honestly, pretty dismissive. When I mentioned that their website says they offer takeout, she told me they were too busy and it just wouldn't be happening today. That alone was disappointing, but what really stung? I'm from town and happened to be nearby -- I was at Sappyfest, which was taking place right on the same street as Ducks aren't Real -- so I walked over just two minutes later to check out the vibe in person. As the photos show, it wasn't slammed. There were a few guests, sure, but it wasn't chaotic or packed. So being told there's "no time" felt less like honesty and more like I just wasn't worth the effort. Customer experience matters. So does communication. If takeout isn't actually available, the website should reflect that. And if you don't want to offer it, just say so with kindness. I still believe in the potential of this place. But I won't be returning -- at least not until the energy matches the aesthetic. In today's world, branding gets you noticed -- but service is what makes people stay.

Yelp said this was the best restaurant available, and I was quite intrigued by the idea of BBQ in Canada. Verdict: Similar to Dinosaur in NY, what I call "northern BBQ". Not the real Southern style, but what do you expect in Canada? The homemade sauces are great. The staff was very nice and let me try all five sauces to see - I didn't really want blueberry BBQ but just had to experience that flavour for myself. (Note proper Canadian spelling of "flavour.") Went with: * Pork ribs - A little overcooked, not falling off the bone. I know it's hard to get the pork to fall off, but two of the six ribs kinda worked so they're close. * Sweet n spicy sauce - Really nice BBQ sauce flavour. I recommend it. The hot sauce is just normal Tabasco style, not BBQ. * Potato salad - I like the idea, but some of those potato chunks were undercooked. Should all be smooth and crushy in my mouth, not crisp. * Chili - Wow, that's meaty. Really great stuff, interesting flavour. 5 stars. A bit mixed but I'm a BBQ snob in another country, and if you want BBQ you may not find a place this good in the entire Atlantic Time Zone. So sure, stop on in!

She said, "Call ahead to make sure she had 'em", which I thought was good advice, especially since Village is at the corner of two roads in the middle of nowhere, New Brunswick. What were we talking about? Lobster rolls, that what! The NB specialty and something to be asking about wherever you go in Canada's only bilingual province. When I visited again in April of 2022 I didn't forget about Village, although I didn't have a chance to phone ahead, I went anyway. "I only serve them on Sundays", was the reply to my question about the cute little sammies, and it wasn't Sunday unfortunately. So I had the next best thing, their signature two pieces of fish and chips. It was delightful! Nicely battered fish was tender and flaky. Perfect! They have a cute little dining area inside the building where you can look out over the intersection with plenty of blue sky to be seen and very little else, quite the relaxing place to eat.
