Irving Big Stops can sometimes be a godsend when travelling around the Maritimes. Mike and I ate here twice to and from PEI. There are so few options in the middle of nowhere, go figure. ;-)
Service at this location is the same as the others: polite and efficient, if not overly friendly. The menu is broad enough for everyone to find something they will eat. Prices are very reasonable.
This location has it all: convenience store, laundry room, driver's lounge with TV, alcohol, clean washrooms. It's very much one stop shopping for travellers.
The food is ... a-ok. Not great, but good enough. We had the hot turkey sandwich and the fish and chips. They give you the option of regular frozen crinkle-cut fries or handcut fries. I love me some crinkle cut fries. Mike did try the handcut and he didn't care for them. Their breaded fish is actually quite good. And you can't go wrong with lemon meringue pie!
Overall, Big Stops are a place you can count on for decent food, a place to stretch your legs and gas up your car, and maybe pick up some snacks for the road when you find yourself miles from the city. read more
