I got there 20 minutes after they opened and was the second person in line, 10 minutes later the line was almost out the door. This area in general is so woody and whimsical with a lot of different paths, antique stores and bookstores. The café itself is connected to an antique store and the seating is all refurbished antiques. The ambience and whimsy that this café brings gives me so much joy! The coffee and the donuts that they had were absolutely incredible. I had a hot tiramisu latte and I ended up getting six donuts for a Mother's Day celebration. The donuts were fluffy, steamy and freshly made. I usually am not a cooked fruit person, but the way that they incorporated the fruits in all of these pastries was absolutely divine. The coffee had the perfect balance of sweetness to the boldness of espresso. And with your drink sweet treats, you can take a walk around the little town and enjoy the weather and the scenery. 10/10 experience. I will be back here again to try their savory options and some other pastries!

It was a bit stale, basically bread dusted with sugar. Staff was nice though, and the food looked pretty good. Maybe this is more of a brunch spot than a grab and go coffee shop.

Upon entering you immediately notice that it's a large location with lots of seating that has recently gone through a remodel and it wasn't busy at all. I tried to order via the self service kiosk but it wasn't taking "tap to pay" so an employee had to take my order and ring me up. My coffee was made pretty quickly but it was a hot coffee instead of the iced coffee I ordered so the employee had to remake it. Once remade it was made perfectly but I couldn't sit and enjoy it before work because of the technology issues I faced at the kiosk and because of it having to be remade so I took it to go and enjoyed it on my drive.

When I tell you that this food didn't miss on a single thing ... literally SLAMMING! With the recent reviews of one or two stars, I wasn't sure what to expect...it looks like they may have improved, but need to address the bug/fly issues in the display case...even if it is just for display and not being sold. Hard to tell exactly when it opened, as their website offers scant information, but they first started posting on Facebook in 2011 if that is anything to go by. They don't have a large footprint in the NJ brewing scene as they don't distribute to any liquor stores or bars/restaurants (they don't even offer beers in cans to go), and they don't do any big events other than the typical karaoke or trivia nights. What they do offer is a nice place to hang out in an old historic building right on the Main Street in the downtown area, and a solid lineup of beers. One thing that makes them stand out is a great selection of beers on nitro. From my experience with NJ breweries, you're lucky to find a single beer on nitro. At Village Idiot there are seven of them, most of them dessert stouts like a cookie butter white stout and a salted caramel milk stout. All that we tried were delicious and not crazy high in ABV like other dessert stouts. Flights are only $10 which is pretty cheap compared to other NJ breweries. Of note is that as of November 2025 they no longer allow outside drinks including water bottles like Nalgenes and Stanley Cups. Too many idiots sneaking in alcohol, according to their social media. Overall it has a bit more of a dive bar vibe only frequented by locals rather than a traditional NJ brewery, but the beer is definitely good enough, and the surrounding Main Street charming and quaint enough that I would definitely return.
