I went back again today and got the cutest bucket of coffee along with an adorable shamrock cup. I tried the Irish cream, toffee nut, and brown sugar coffees, and all of them were amazing. This place, from the taste of it already, went a little lighter on the sweeteners but still had enough of a touch that it tasted really good. They had other very delicious beverages that I also probably would have very much enjoyed if I hadn't impulsively blurted out the fish thing I saw.

The space is cute, with a small souvenir shop tucked inside, giving it that "local charm" feel. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite match the name. Service leaned toward... un-happy. A touch of rudeness here, a lack of warmth there, and the "no refills for regular coffee" policy felt a little stingy for a place serving simple breakfast fare. Speaking of simple -- eggs and bacon shouldn't take a small eternity, yet there we were, waiting and waiting. Overall: adorable setting, but a bit overrated. Cute café, just be prepared to exercise your patience -- and maybe bring backup caffeine.

There's even a historical marker about it just a block away from the diner. The Down Home Diner has won some awards, including for their buckwheat cakes. Service was great and, of course, I had the AYCE buckwheat cakes. This was my first time tasting such thing. They were all great that I walked out stuffed. Be sure to check the hours of the diner - the lady working there told me they used to have longer hours and they used to be open during suppertime, but they couldn't find reliable help.
