Outstanding BBQ Flavor…read more My husband and I stopped in and the service was quick, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the bbq is outstanding. We ordered the brisket and pulled pork w/ white cheddar Mac and baked beans. Seriously superb and tasteful! My husband boasts about there being two different flavorings to the brisket vs the pulled pork. I have never been to a bbq restaurant and wanted to bring home the house sauce more than here. The house BBQ sauce is delicious, and luckily they do sell it for those like me, needing this flavor at home!

Legit Texas BBQ in Eureka Springs!…read more On a recent trip to Eureka, the kids and I were very unimpressed with service and how unfriendly people were. Sauced was one of two exceptions. The person behind teh counter said she was from Texas so maybe that had something to do with it. Sauced is worth a stop. We ordered a bunch of brisket, hand cut fries, and mac n cheese. The fries were excellent. It is hard to beat a perfectly cooked hand cut fry and these were amazing. The mac n cheese was also dang good. It was cheesy as could be and a great addition. The brisket? Well for starters, I wasn't expecting much. I didn't think Arkansas was known for brisket but I figured what the hell. This was some very good brisket. I would venture a guess that it is the best brisket in Eureka and unless there are some real Texas BBQ joints there, one of the best in all of Arkansas. Have I had better? Yes, in Houston or Dallas, but those are the BBQ meccas. This was solid Texas brisket and blew me away for Arkansas BBQ. If you find yourself in Eureka and love BBQ, get yourself to Sauced soon. My mouth is watering thinking about it.

But this place...this owner, wow. If you're going to get anything out of this review from my experience, TLDR; owner has some serious attitude issues towards picture taking and having civil conversations with his (potential) customers. First off, I'm writing as a human being visiting Eureka Springs. I just have the standard of being treated with humanly respect. Those that have high reviews defending the owner's actions are a little questionable. They say to "leave your ego and entitlement at the door" or "the owner stands up for his own". Concerning as that is what they see as okay for someone who owns a shop in the hospitality business. I will say some pros - the Disney/Mickey decorations posted outside his windows are cute and lure you in, but be careful with this. And his pretzels seem really good...wish I got to try them. I came in with doughy eyes enamored with his Disney decor and wanted to take photos of it, especially because it's what I normally do when writing Yelp reviews. It's almost a muscle-memory at this point. As soon as I took the first photo, I was startled by the man at the register pointing at me yelling, "GET OUT! ENJOY YOUR PICTURE! IT SAYS NO PICTURES!". Of course, I'm taken aback like a deer in headlights, but without a word and still shook, I walked out. I had to take a few minutes to process what the heck just happened. As my family walked out, I learned that I was kicked out for taking a photo when he had signs that say no photos. Okay, I did miss that but again, I'm a tourist looking at everything and was distracted by the Disney signs. I wasn't reading every single word on his door prior to entering. What really got me was that I went about my day, but as I passed by his shop again before heading back home, I decided to try and talk to him, just to apologize and learn as to why what happened, happened. I'm just curious as to why. As I walk in, he immediately recognized me and sassily asks me "WHAT? WHAT DO YOU WANT? You got your picture!" Without raising my voice and not blurting a single profane word, I told him I wanted a civil discussion. He goes straight to claim that I felt entitled to come in into his home, take photos as I please, and tell him how to run his business. Not the case. I tried to explain my side of the story and apologized again, but to no prevail. I told him I loved his Disney decor and he responds with "Then if you love it so much, go to f*cking Disneyland!" He proceeded to tell me he records everything and puts them on YouTube (which, I'd love to find), that every other business has "No Photos" signs on their door, yadda yadda. There was no point in trying to get my customer point of view across to this man. I told him to have a day and walked out. Another party of people saw me walk out red in the face and asked if I just got yelled at. Apparently, they ordered a pretzel from him but once he saw one of them take a photo, he threw their pretzel in the trash and kicked them out. A bitter man running a hospitality business in the middle of a tourist area. It's not ideal and really shouldn't be acceptable unless that's his shtick and people know it. Again, I'm sure his pretzels were great, but not worth going through that. (I was going to post the one photo that started all this, but out of respect for HIM, I won't. TBH, my initial thought was that he didn't want photos because he didn't want Disney sending him a C&D for all his stuff.)

Sometimes the Memory Is Better Left Alone: A Disappointing Return to Sparky's Roadhouse…read more I remembered Sparky's Roadhouse as a place of great burgers, familiar surroundings, and happy family memories. When I finally returned to the Eureka Springs restaurant after many years away, I expected to rediscover that same experience. Instead, the visit quickly showed me how far the Sparky's of today seemed to have fallen from the one I had cherished. After many years away, my wife and I recently had the opportunity to return to Sparky's. I was genuinely excited about it. I remembered the restaurant as a fun, casual Eureka Springs favorite with great burgers, a unique atmosphere, and the kind of personality that made you look forward to coming back. Unfortunately, the Sparky's I visited this time bore very little resemblance to the restaurant I remembered. The disappointment started with the menu. The selection seemed diminished from what I remembered, and what was once an easy decision because so many things sounded good became a struggle to find something that interested me. I ultimately went with a burger, thinking that at least I could revisit one of the things I remembered and loved most about Sparky's. That nostalgia disappeared when the burger arrived. The burger seemed surprisingly small compared with what I remembered from years ago. More importantly, it simply wasn't very good. I would describe it as mediocre at best. It wasn't necessarily the worst burger I've ever had, but that almost made the experience more disappointing. This was Sparky's, a place where I remembered the burgers being something worth talking about. What I received this time was forgettable and nothing like the burgers that had helped make the restaurant a favorite of mine and my family years ago. The service unfortunately did nothing to improve the experience. On this visit, I found it inattentive and frustrating to the point that I would describe it as dismissive at best. A restaurant can sometimes overcome an average meal through friendly, attentive service and genuine hospitality. That wasn't my experience here. Even more concerning to me was the condition of the restaurant itself. During our visit, the seating and countertops appeared dirty, and there were numerous flies throughout the interior dining area. The overall environment simply did not give me the impression of the cleanliness and attention to detail I expect from a restaurant. One of the food items also did not taste right to me, which, combined with what I was observing around the dining area, made it difficult to enjoy the meal. I recognize that restaurants change. Menus evolve, ownership and employees may change, costs increase, and the restaurant industry has faced challenges that didn't exist years ago. I also understand that a single visit represents a snapshot in time and may not reflect every customer's experience or every day of operation. But that doesn't change the disappointment of this particular visit. I returned to Sparky's hoping to reconnect with a place tied to some of my family's happiest memories. Instead, the meal, service, and condition of the restaurant made it clear that the Sparky's I remembered exists only in the past. Nostalgia had preserved it perfectly, but returning replaced that warm memory with disappointment. For that reason, I won't be returning... not because the past meant nothing, but because it meant too much to risk revisiting it again. Sometimes the best way to preserve a cherished memory is to leave it where it belongs: in the past.
