Dr Mengarelli diagnosed me with Macular Degeneration (AMD) in July. During the visit, he didn't show me the images of my eye nor the dursen that causes AMD. He did show me a chart. In discussions with other medical professionals about the lack of information provided during my office visit, I was urged to get a second opinion. I did go to another ophthalmologist for a second opinion, and it was confirmed, I had no signs of the disease. When I spoke to Theresa Pittman in the business office at McDonald, I told her I didn't feel I should have to pay the $140 owed after insurance, since I had to seek a second opinion to get a correct diagnosis. She became very defensive and told me that I had better listen to Dr Mengarelli, because he was a retina specialist and the other doctor I saw wasn't. She proceeded to read my chart over the phone to me. Theresa asked me how long it took for me to get an appointment with the second doctor, as if to indicate he wasn't busy nor a good doctor. Theresa told me if I didn't pay my bill, she will turn me over to collections and I replied I was fine with that because I didn't feel I should pay for a misdiagnosis. I have never in my life been turned over to collections and this will be a first. I've never even been late on a payment in my life but it's the principle of the matter. During our conversation Theresa told me Dr Mengarelli and the second doctor both work in the same eye surgery clinic. A soon as I got off the phone with Theresa, I called the second doctor's office and asked if he and Dr Mengarelli could confer and give me a consistent diagnosis since they worked together and knew each other. The two doctors did confer, and they are on the same page that I was misdiagnosed, and I DO NOT have Macular Degeneration, for which I am thankful. The second doctor's office was the one to relay this information to me I have received no communication from Dr Mengarelli concerning him misdiagnosing me. In a second phone call to Theresa, she did confirm that Dr Mengarelli did tell her that I did not have the disease but would still need to pay him. Two days ago I canceled my future appointments with Dr Mengarelli due to the misdiagnosis of a disease that causes blindness and there is no cure. Those days of thinking I was going to go blind were devastating. Had I not gotten a second opinion, I would have gone through life expecting to go blind. Today I got a certified letter in the mail from Theresa that they had dismissed me as a patient. I was hoping the packet would be from the doctor letting me know he made a mistake. However, I didn't intend on returning to him as a doctor so the dismissal is mute. The entire debacle has been handled unprofessionally with the diagnosis and the unprofessional response from the office employee. Theresa has denied she said the things she said over the phone, which doesn't surprise me at all due to how defensive she became and her abrasive nature. I hadn't planned on returning to a doctor that gives out wrong diagnosis but her letter of dismal was most likely Theresa's way of protecting herself from me having a future conversation with Dr Mengarelli and informing him of her actions and what she said about the other doctor and her reading my chart over the phone and telling me Dr Mengarelli was a retina specialist and the other doctor was not. (the other doctor is a retinal specialist) I caution any one who uses Dr Mengarelli to ensure he shows you your scans and explains the diagnosis in detail. I felt he had one hand on the door knob the entire time I was in his office. He was very hurried. When I told Theresa this, she said it was because he is busy. The other staff at McDonald have always been wonderful and I highly recommend Dr Coats and Bob in the optical department. My husband and I have spent over $3000 with them in the last year on glasses alone. I have always been treated with respect and care until this recent incident. read more

I specifically requested my optometrist to set up a referral for eye lens replacement. After a week I called McDonald Eye Associares asking if they received the referral. The girl on the phone said they had and it was noted in my file they tried to call me to set up the appointment. I told her I had no missed calls from them and she pretty much insinuated I was a liar and instructed me to call back. I have yet to receive a call to schedule the appointment. This is a $7,000 - $9,000 surgery. My guess is they don't need my business. if this is how they run their office I can only imagine how they treat patients post-op. Now any trust I had in finding the best for someone dealing with my eyesight is null and void in regards to this business. They definitely need new office staff. read more

I am one day post-LASIK, and I am so happy!!!!! The entire process was thorough, professional, and courteous. I expected some discomfort today, but there is nothing, and my vision is excellent. The women in the Rogers office should be fired. Their actions presented possible damage to my injured eye. I came in at around 3pm with a foreign object in my eye and they quickly told me all their providers were too busy to see me and they weren't a walk in clinic. They were cruel, hateful, and dismissive. They tried to direct me to drive to their Fayetteville office via traffic congested interstate despite only being able to see clearly in one eye. It wasn't safe for me or anyone else on the road to ask me to do this. Without examination from a licensed optometrist, non-medical staff attempted to give me over the counter eye drops to place in my injured eye. As I was leaving, I shared I would never be back. They then apologized to the people behind me for my presence there as I walked out in tears. The emergency optometrist I saw later that night said putting anything in my eye could have damaged it further and was concerned with the behavior McDonald had toward the situation, regardless of if they accepted walk ins. Emergency and urgent care facilities do not staff optometrists nor do they have the equipment to examine eyes the way this clinic does. Those women knew this. I would not have received medical care if not for my Cherokee Nation citizenship that night. I'd been a loyal patient of the clinic for over two years and actually liked my optometrist there. Once I brought this experience to the attention of their Fayetteville office manager and informed her of my intent to report to the state optometry board, she immediately severed my status as a patient. If they'd been as timely and concerned with my wellness as they were with limiting their liability exposure with me, I wouldn't be writing this. Ultimately, my doctor here was great, but the non-medical staff are simply bad people that attempted to place me in positions that would have jeopardized my safety, safety of others driving I-49, and my optical health. The staff was all very professional and kind. Dr. Coats took her time and explained everything to me. I truly felt like a valued customer and not just someone coming in for the first time. Update: after trying my trial contacts I'm excited to say they were a great fit and exactly what I needed. For clarity, this review is specific to the Rogers office. I had been a patient in Rogers but had both cataracts addressed in Fayetteville. First cataract op was uneventful. Second one has been anything but. At the 1 month post op mark, my vision deteriorated. My tech in Rogers treated my vision check results being worse like it was something I planned. I told her maybe it was just a blurry day because I had a few of them on the first eye. It continued to worsen and my symptoms were basically blurred vision, floaters, warped vision, and nothing with my vision felt right at all. I called the Rogers office twice to report my vision change and try to get seen before my 3 month post op appointment. My tech returned my call and said they couldn't do anything until my next appointment. Perhaps my communication around the symptoms were bad or something got lost in translation from the receptionist desk. I tried to call again to speak with my doctor but was told she was with a patient but that my file would note my call. My files have no notes around my two attempts to get seen about possible complications. In fairness, I was never seen in Rogers for my post op complications so that is probably the cause of the lack of records. Because the Rogers office would not give me an appointment to be seen over my post op complication concerns, there is no way I can recommend that office to anyone. Right or wrong, the perception I got from the Rogers office was that they were dismissive to patient concerns and presumptive around symptoms. I moved my appointment to Fayetteville so I could at least confirm there wasn't a larger issue. The Fayetteville office was helpful, displayed urgency, and confirmed I actually had swelling and prescribed another round of drops to help. Why I could not accomplish the same thing in Rogers is simply baffling to me. In fairness, I don't know what I don't know so perhaps I did not clearly communicate my complication symptoms or it got lost in translation somewhere. I did not have any communication issues in Fayetteville whatsoever. I will likely go to Boozman Hof for any future needs after one more appointment in Fayetteville to see if 12+ weeks of drops works. I live in Rogers so it's more convenient than continuing to go to Fayetteville. Unfortunately and right or wrong, one issue can make a broader experience very regretful and that is where I am with the Rogers office. I have to hope my experience was a one off but I have zero desire to find out if that was the case. read more

My wait time prior to seeing the Associate was brief, the consultation was great, and best of all, there were no "hidden fee's' that emerged. I am very pleased with my experience. read more

This review is not worth one star... I am so very disappointed with McDonald Eye. I took my daughter back in SEPTEMBER to get an exam and new glasses. We ordered blue frames... It took 4 MONTHS to get her glasses, which were ordered in black and not blue. I was promised blue frames within 6 weeks. As of today JANUARY 9, 2018 we still do not have the correct frames we ordered in September! I contacted the office before Christmas and was informed the glasses were still on order and would be shipped to the Fayetteville location, then would be shipped to the Rogers location! Sadly I will never return here for any services. The staff are great, but the glasses dept. are pathetic! It should NEVER take 6 months to get glasses no matter what insurance company you use or how you pay! read more

My granddaughter had an eye appt here just before school started. The optical lab there is unprofessional to say the least. They failed to order her glasses, failed to admit their mistake or to make it right. Three months now have gone by and they finally send in the order only to order the wrong color. What beautiful little girl wants black frames? Shame on Dr. McDonald for allowing this optical dept to operate inside their office and shame on the office ladies for their ugly treatment of my daughter and granddaughter.
