Our company was here for the annual International Home and Housewares show. You could tell it wasn't the convention centers fist rodeo. A very organized layout and floor plan, great staff for clean-up and lighting, easy travel with taxi, bus, and train services all connected right to the convention center. The architectural design was cool, and the layout of the center was convenient and well thought out. Connected to the convention center is the Hyatt hotel, Chicago Transit Authority bus and train system, and shuttles directly to O'hare International Airport. Inside there are several coffee shops, some random restaurants which include a Starbucks, McDonalds and the Hyatt Hotel restaurant downstairs in the North East section. read more

Location, location, location and this one is POOR. Not only is it tucked into some desolate of Chicago, it offers very little in the way of refreshments. Yes, by refreshments, I mean food and drink! As it is in the middle of nowhere, don't expect to walk to restaurant or coffee joint. The surrounding businesses are strictly non food stuffs (dry cleaners, etc.). There is a Papa Johns a few blocks away, but it looked closed. The in joint offerings include Starbucks and Corner Bakery. Yes, just two that I uncovered. There is a tiny food court--I think it includes three total businesses (and one is CB). The prices are sky high--energy drink and medium coffee = 9 bucks. Am I at the movie theater? You'll also wait, wait, wait. As events here tend to be crowded affairs, you'll be in heavy competition for that mozzarella sammich. I waited nearly 14 minutes to buy aforementioned over priced coffee and energy drink. The facility itself is nice--spacious and clean, but the lack of available food options and the high cost of eating from a limited pool of options makes conferences here on the dreadful end of awful. read more

A great facility for conventions, there were 3 going on during our event. Very clean, the staff very nice and helpful. Had a great event look forward to next year. The only issue is that it cost $23.00 to park if you are there for 1 hour or 10. read more

$19 to park - to be expected. This place is huge but there are plenty of signs to direct you where to go. The space is modern, clean and interesting to look at. Bathrooms are easy to find and plentiful. read more

This review is for the conference facilities and staff: Superb job! I was here for a 3-day conference in May and I honestly have no complaints whatsoever! Oh wait, I do! Get a larger or maybe more than one Starbucks stand! You can't honestly think that one measly Starbucks stand at an International conference for TEACHERS (many of whom are women) is going to suffice. I must have stood in line for at least 30 minutes (#nofilter) waiting to order an Espresso. Do better, Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. Also, the food prices are ridiculous! $8 for a little wrap? But I guess that's expected from a hotel right? Hmph! That is all. read more

Is it that it is such a big landmark not it is not worth even one review? I have been to many a convention here and it is perfect ! big enough to accomodate vendors comfortably, no shortage of public facilities, easy to get to from Downtown and best of all, it is where I pick up my packet pre Chicago Marathon, great memories !!! read more

The place is huge and like everyone else has said expensive. There is plenty of parking although if Lot A fills up then you are stuck with a long walk or taking the shuttle from the 31st street lot. Even when you park in Lot A prepare to walk depending on which building your specific show is being held in. I also agree with everyone else which is eat before you go or prepare to pay higher than average prices for mediocre food. I had lunch at the pizza place which was offering a slice, a salad, and a drink for $9.95. The pizza was luke warm, the salad also luke warm and the fountain soda was perfect. I think it is a great place to hold a show and I will definitely be back but eat before you go. read more

Oh sweet Jesus, what a magnificent convention center.

The halls are huge...the air-conditioning is outta control and cold..especially for July! Bbrrrrrbbrrrr

Really big convention center! It dwarfs the one in Phoenix. The signage was somewhat confusing but after spending 3 days here I got used to it. The food court was pretty limited but maybe because it was the weekend. Nice halls and sound system. read more

As far as conference convention centers go, this is probably one of the best, if not the best. I think it beats Jacob Javits and other major city CC's hands down. Connected to the Hyatt Regency Convention Center, it contains many places to dine or just sit down. I like the AMEX Open lounge just to have private meetings and relax. The bus pick up is very efficient. Taxi service can be challenging since so many people attend conferences here. The staff is quite helpful and friendly. read more

Boring and overpriced food options but the place is clean, neat, and made for a smooth conference experience.

Okay, so it's big. Huge! GIFREAKINGNORMOUS! The fact still remains that the McCormick Place convention center is very inconveniantly located away from most off-site amentities like decent restaurants or shopping venues. It's a short to medium walk from the Field Museum, but a long way from any El stop and unless you are staying at the one hotel on site, you have to practically hire a sherpa to get there. While the massive complex does have a couple food courts, shops and cafes located within its massive corridors, only about half of these places are ever open at any given time and pretty much all of them close down early, even if there are evening events going on. The two things it really has going for it other than girth are a fantastic view and really comfy chairs. I totally passed out in a cushy leather armchair while gazing out at Lake Michigan one afternoon. read more

I'm sitting at McCormick Place Convention center.. West side... right now on the last day of a conference I'm at. I have to say that "HUGE" is my first reaction to this place. It's MASSIVE. It makes the convention I'm at a bit strange in a way - everything is so separated. When I'm used to running into people constantly at this particular conference I've attended 4 time (Adobe MAX), I haven't run into people nearly as often (and some I see all the time.. haven't seen at all). It;s because this place is so huge and spread out. I went walking on Sunday and it took me 10 minutes to get to the other side... or more. It crosses ML King Drive, Lakeshore drive... then there's a whole other older complex waaaay over there. It's like 3 giant conference centers in one. Anyway - it's COLD. The air conditioning seems to be turned on to max and I shiver at times. But then, some of the rooms are almost too warm (the ones with computers... guess that makes sense). The conference food is thoroughly mediocre. And all the food court shops are closed (so you can't escape the mediocre food or try to find something healthy - tis a shame). They have provided water and snacks and drinks on a regular basis -that could be our conference folks, but the people attending everything have been on spot with the food/snacks. Some of the conference and room attendees have been... rude and abrupt. I don't know if they belong to the conference or to the building - but holy crap have some of them been bad/mean/rude. That said, I've also talked to some of the room attendants who are super nice too. It really seems to be one or the other here! Really nice or really mean. The complex is clean, lots of rest rooms, and the west side we're in is bright and nice-looking. Size is a bit overwhelming, but I guess that's necessary for some of these trade shows. There is *nothing* to walk to in the area, apart from a White Castle a few blocks away. You have to walk at least 10 to 12 blocks to hit sushi or Asian and even then you have your pick of only a couple spots. read more

Went here for the Chicago Auto Show, and was blown away by how massive this place is. This is what I expect when I go to a convention center. Huge, empty space with a lot of room to showcase whatever is being showcased. The convention center had a main ground floor that was split up into 2 sides running parallel to each other. It also had an upper level and lower level (where the test drives were happening). The insides had a clean and sleek look to it, giving it a modern vibe. My only issue is that the food's a wee-bit expensive (think $3/bottle of soda), but other than that, definitely a great place to host events. read more

Breathing those sweet, sweet diesel fumes. We've asked the bus company every day to stop idling in the underground parking center. The first two floors of the center will give you black lung. Good amenities, they've got a Starbucks, you know... convention center things. The one positive is the cool view of Lake Michigan. The place does its job, just please get the bus idling under control. It's an enclosed space and they hold the doors open all the time. We were all getting headaches sitting in first floor meetings. read more

Prior to the first convention I attended at McCormick Place my only exposure to the complex was my annual attendance at the auto show. However given that you basically go from one side of the main floor to another I didn't truly feel I got the true experience - and I was right. My first conference experience at McCormick Place had me feeling as though I was back in college. I literally had to hike from one end of the complex to another in-between sessions which didn't work so well the first day when I dared to wear a pair of heals (I suggest you go for a comfy pair of shoes). Overall, the center is well marked and if you look at the signage you should get where you need to be with no problems. I have to admit there was a time or two when I went the wrong way and had to back-track, but that mainly occurred when I was in a rush and assumed I knew where I was going. I agree with Nancy R. when she says that it's freezing cold inside so bring something to keep you warm. Additionally, I agree with her comment on facility locations which had me sprinting back and forth so I didn't miss too much, or any, of the particular session that was taking place. I generally avoided the food court as it was pricey and just ok. Sadly, I did have one or two meals at MPCC (I was bound to get hungry before lunch) so I just went for a cheap bite to eat at the McDonalds Express - not the ideal choice, but it was less expensive than shelling out the cash that I would expect to pay at a restaurant. If you are attending a convention when it is nice outside weather wise I recommend you take the opportunity to eat in their courtyard area. Parking garages are plentiful and you'll pay about $20/day to do so - typical for the city. All in all, not a bad experience at McCormick Place Convention Complex. I'd definitely go back for another convention (and the auto show). read more

Great place for a convention. Tons of space. Helpful signage. There is also a food court. It is a bit on the pricey side for what the food is, but when you are stuck someplace it is expected that the prices are going to be higher. For a big conference, be prepared for long lines. Seating can also be hard to find during rush periods. I loved the bus drop off/pick up. Buses contracted for events can bypass the main traffic by taking underground routes. Cool. read more

I've been here far too many times and I always come back with the same things: 1. It's HUGE 2. It's modern (decor...for the most part) 3. It's a little smelly and the food is...meh 4. The bathrooms are....meh 5. The wi-fi sucks It's OK for what it is. Plenty of space, temperature controlled rooms, lots of signs and people directing visitors where to go, etc. But, I have a hard time getting past point 5. read more

This is a great place for an expo or packet pick-up. The signs are easy to read and there isn't a ton of congestion heading into McCormick Place. However, this place is so vast and there isn't a decent spot for drop-offs, so I would prefer picking up from a smaller place like Fleet Feet. They work with race partners to offer discounted parking so people can thoroughly enjoy the Expo, which I appreciate since Navy Pier is super pricey if you want to have fun at the Expo. All in all, I wouldn't hestitate to run in another race if I knew packet pick-up was at this venue. read more

I went here for the auto show this year. This place is huge and like Mickey A said...the maps are not desireable forms of information. The staff is not much better if you have a question. Bike parking is random and you are left to your own devices. The bathrooms were clean. Connie's Pizza and McDonalds are located in the 'food court'. Walking from the parking lot into the building where the show is taking place makes one feel like a mouse in a maze on a giant level. It just seems like a lot of wasted space. read more

This place is just huge. I was at the auto show here in January and practically got lost. If you know where you are, then it's not so bad I imagine. The space is just humongous. The staff was very accommodating however, and you can always catch a cab since this place is a draw for that sort of thing. I had some food in the cafe area and i left still feeling hungry and a bad taste in my mouth. I wasn't impressed at all with the food. I was impressed with how impeccably clean the center was! They do a great job keeping dust bunnies off the marble. read more

It is vast, impersonal, awe-inspiring, with the overall grandiose feeling of fascist architecture. Most convention attendees arrive here by taxi. If your driver knows exactly which building you need to get to, it could save you a very long walk. It's good to get a concept of how big the whole complex is and how the buildings are arranged: http://www.mccormickplace.com/floorplans/map_index.html Our most recent visit started out at the far western building at its entrances on South Indiana Avenue. But our destination was the Vista ballroom on the fourth floor of the South Building, right on the edge of Lake Shore Drive, a walk of a half mile "as the crow flies," but going ever upward from ground level via escalators or elevators, it was probably 3 times that. When the place is as empty as it was this evening, there is not a soul in sight, save a lone security or maintenance person. As we walking through the Grand Concourse, the soaring 5-story central lobby was both impressive and depressing (4 stories here equals 5 stories in the "real world"). One is continually amazed at the acres of plush carpeting (when you are not on the steel step of an escalator, you are walking on either polished stone or pile carpet). Monumental artwork can be found in selected spots and expensive seating furniture, that could fit nicely into a 4-star hotel, is scattered in quiet alcoves. The signage is sometimes grossly oversized, almost like propaganda posters. You do wonder if the place should be called, "Mussolini Place." read more

I came here for the first time this past weekend for C2E2. The showroom space was really really really big. It was the perfect place to house so many exhibits, booths, and attendees. It was just a bus ride away, so that was pretty good. There seemed to be a ton of bathrooms because I saw what seemed like 50 signs telling me where they were. Not much else to say. It was a pretty typical convention center. read more

This place is HUGE. Parking was a breeze, large garages, etc. Was a bit of a walk to the north hall to pick up my Chicago Marathon packet and visit the expo. Very huge space. Over the course of 3 days, I feel like I logged about 15 miles. My feet were killing me. Cons: Hard to find your way around at first, poor food choices, and no where near enough bathrooms. Pros: The Metra stops right under the building so it's very convenient. A very beautiful space, with great views in all directions. read more

Sprawling convention centre with really no amenities. Food is overpriced and the food court is uninspiring. I would recommend you eat before you head to the convention centre. Bathroom facilities are mixed, but some nice washrooms exist upstairs from the main exhibit hall. I agree with many of the reviews that views of the lake from the east building were quite nice and if you go to the rear of the eat building, it opens onto a terrace facing the lake. I actually had my lunch there one of the days. Be warned that no shade exists, so sunscreen is a must. Good luck at McCormick Place! read more

Round and round and round I went up and down and up again, stark, clean and corporate, everything I hate but appropriate for its purpose. Are we supposed to review the union here? methinks I might end up in concrete if I do! It's huge! Lots of expo events it can hold with lots of parking. My favorite is the auto show here! It is a clean place! The Hyatt next to it with Metra right inside the halls. I attended the Chicago Auto Show here last week. Just an FYI to everyone, there are hidden gems in this place. There is a huge food court hidden in this venue. The cafe inside the conference area is CLUMSY. If you want a cocktail, that is one line, if you want a snack, that is another line. That was so extremely clumsy and awkward. This place is very spacious, plenty of food kiosks, and the facade is nice. The location is nice as it is right at public transportation with a Metra station inside. The food is expensive, but that can be expected. Many Chicago specialty food items which makes it ideal for tourists and out of town visitors. The WIFI connection was great. They also have indoor parking. McCormick place overall is pretty nice. read more

I've come to the McCormick Place convention center for different things and mainly to see the annual Chicago Auto Show. I was shocked at how nasty the bathrooms are because I walked in and nearly fell out from the smell. It's like a million a**es farted all at once and what was even more gross was the used toilet paper strewn all over the place and some stalls had food crumbs which is enough to make someone lose their appetite. Not to mention the overpriced sodas and snacks which makes some people want to carry a pack of M&Ms to save some money out of the machines. The walking may be trying for many who can't walk long distances so it's ideal to find out all taxi and bus stands before attending any function at McCormick Place. I would pack your own hand soap and sanitizer before using those nasty bathrooms they have there. read more

I have visited the annual Chicago Auto Show this year. This convention center was really cool and impressive. Its architecture is gorgeous, and thats what I like about Chicago. Every time you think you have seen it all it surprises you with a bigger, nicer structure just like the McCormick place. Apart from the show items, the center is full of installations and sculptures. It's one of the prettiest convention centers on earth! It lives up to its slogan "forever open, clear, and free". Though I wonder what they will do with the McCormick Place East Building after 2011 Burnham Prize Competition: McCormick Place REDUX. PS. It is not so hard to navigate, people! :) read more

Been here for a few conferences and enjoyed it each time. If you are from out of town, it pays to stay at the Hyatt Regency that is connected to the conference center, however, if your conference is in the west section of McCormick--I don't think there is much of a benefit since it is such a far walk back and forth. I do have to say that they must have improved the onsite wifi. Last year I was there and it was horrible. This year I didn't have any issues. Bathrooms are very clean and well kept. The only negative is trying to catch a cab after your conference ends for the day. Last year I used Uber and it was a godsend, however, this year they do not allow Uber to pick up from there. To get around that, either walk a block away or just move the pin on the Uber app to a different location and then call the driver to tell him where you are. read more
