Biscuit and Gravy with bacon, sliced tomatoes and home fries

On our way back home we dashed into the best local restaurant in McClellanville. The outside may not look trendy but there's a reason for that. This is down home cooking and comfort. Everyone knows everyone. The regulars don't even have to order because the cook is already working on it. If they don't know you they still treat you like a regular. The service is top notch and some of the sweetest people. Next time I am passing through I will stop again. The biscuits and gravy is well worth the trip. So check it out, you won't be sorry.

Stopped by for breakfast yesterday after the Land Sea Market. Had not even realized they served breakfast, thought it was just lunch and Friday night dinner. I had the pancakes with bacon. My husband had the cheese omelette with bacon, potatoes and rye toast. Coffee was very good, not bitter at all. Everything was delicious. Service was great. The desserts, some made in house, looked amazing. Will be coming back to try those along with dinner, which is served are fridays only 5-8. Owner is also the chef. Cute little, local place. Had some great lunch/dinner specials listed on the board. Closed Sundays

This place is fantastic! This diamond in the rough has wonderful country cooking and seafood. I had the She Crab Soup bowl and the chef offered me Sherry to add to it. The soup is marvelous with or without. My parents had the friend chicken and loved the batter. Also, the veggies are amazing. True country cooking. Don't miss this little place. They are super nice and the food is outstanding!

I've driven by this tiny hole in the wall place in McClellanville for years and never took a second look. One day I noticed it on Yelp and saw the reviews so I figured I'd make it a point to head out there sometime to check it out. I was on my way up to Myrtle Beach and decided to stop in. I didn't realize but they were just about to close as I saw the hours on the door as I walked in. I asked if they were open and the woman was so pleasant and said she would definitely take us. Usually you'd get an eye roll and silverware slammed down on your table for that move but, she was genuinely happy to serve us. I was thinking more about brunch but, they serve brunch on Sundays and keep normal breakfast/lunch hours every other day. They were on their lunch menu so I opted for the flounder basket. For lunch, it was a huge portion and well worth the price. Something about the tartar sauce made it extra delicious but, I couldn't quite figure out what it was. It feels like a family run place and the service was excellent... similar to being in your friends moms kitchen for lunch. I can't wait to check out brunch here on a Sunday. Definitely worth taking the nice drive up to McClellanville for something different than your typical downtown brunch spots.

Well, here was a hidden gem, and without the wonders of modern tech we would not have known. This place is a rustic slice out of time. Atmosphere is spot on. Friendly service, great food. Grits were just great, sausage gravy primo. They slap this food together in a granny Clampett kitchen, cast iron and all. We were there early weekday, not busy, just a couple yokels getting java and grub. Nice overall experience, will definitely go again. Prices were a bit high, but really worth it.

First of all, the Yelp or GPS directions for here are incorrect. They are not off by much, just about a quarter mile, and the correct side of the road. The atmosphere is cheerful and homey, and everything inside is attractive and very clean. I ordered crab cakes, which came with two sides. The crab cakes were delicious--perfectly seasoned and delightfully old-school. I want to return to try the She Crab soup and mac & cheese. I highly recommend McClellanville Diner!

On the coastal Atlantic, we recommend Acme Low Country Kitchen. You get five-star food in a rustic setting that could benefit for a bit of a makeover -- but only a touch or two. Excellent service compliments the food. On our plate: The "Light: House, including sauteed shrimp, seared scallops and a house-made, fresh crab cake that comes with a caveat that a shell chip or two might be mixed (we call that authentication). All were perfectly prepared and ample sized. This wasn't a shrimp-and-chips drive-through; this was a meal. Our sides: Collards (this is the low country) and fried Brussel sprouts, again well prepared. Price: $38.25 and among the higher-priced items on the seafood-heavy menu but worth it. Others in our party, including two non seafood eaters, chose the pecan fried chicken (two breast with one each going home because of the size) with another going with the Carolina Duo of the chicken and short ribs. Will we return? Yes. There are other options we've yet to try as our visits to Charleston increase but this was a real treat. Even better, it is near the fabled Dingy beach bar where we ducked in to watch the Kentucky Derby. We could spend our retirement years at The Dingy but that's another review to come. Acme is a 4.5-star review with the only points shaved because it just needs a little updating (after the season, perhaps). The food and service more than make up for it.

We walked in and the place was emptier than a church on a Wednesday night, yet somehow we were told to head on over to the bar, wait for a table, and go ahead and order ourselves a drink. Didn't make much sense, but we did as we were told. Then we stood there a good 10 minutes while the bartender, who let us know he's studying to be a dentist up in Spartanburg, was busy chatting away with another customer like we weren't even there. When he finally got around to us, it felt like we were more of an inconvenience than paying customers. But the real kicker came after we finally got our drinks. The manager came up, and I kid you not, told us we had to leave the restaurant and go out to the parking lot to finish them. No explanation, just attitude, and not a polite one either. To be honest, the manager seemed like she might have had a little too much Easter spirit, if you catch my drift. The whole interaction was downright combative and made us feel completely unwelcome. What really got me, though, was the poor hostesses and waitstaff. They apologized to us over and over and quietly let us know this kind of situation is something they deal with on a daily basis. We even heard her speaking sharply to another customer, which made it clear this wasn't just a one time issue. Honestly, the whole experience felt like a bad trip to the dentist and cost about the same as a root canal. All in all, it was a mess from start to finish, rude, confusing, and about as un Southern hospitality as you can get. I would think twice before going back, y'all.

For food, I tried the fried catfish entree and Green apple-cauliflower soup. Both dishes were good. The fish was very tender and juicy. The butter bean succutash, which I never had before, contained butter beans, black eyed peas, corns, green and red peppers and red onions. It was delicious but since beans are of high FODMAP, I only had a little. The fish was topped with tomato jam made with crushed tomatoes, onions and sugar. It was served chilled. Paired well with the fish and succutash. The soup was creamy, silky, and full of flavor from cauliflower. The pistachio added some crunchiness to it. The taste of "green apple" was not obvious; in fact I was expecting there to be some apple slices, which could add extra texture and sourness to this rich soup. I also asked for a side of sourdough. A bit too salty for me. The service was kinda slow, except that food came out in reasonable amoutn of time **after I placed the order**, that is, I waited quite a while to order my food. The same for doing the check. I guess it was because there were not many staff at lunchtime, and most of them were senior thus could move as fast as young ppl.
