We had the chance to stop at Owlbear Cafe while visiting Charleston for the weekend. As soon as we…read morewalked in we could tell that we made a good decision; the line was long and the spot looked popular. Despite the big crowd, they were able to get our Coffee and Food out quickly. As we waited, we enjoyed the soft sound of music that was dialed to the perfect volume level creating a relaxing environment to get work done and enjoy our breakfast. My Latte came out first, unlike many coffee shops, the balance between milk and espresso was flawless. To preface this reaction, I do enjoy tasting the robust flavors of the beans in a latte, and they nailed it at Owlbear. The Frothy Effervescent milk foam was immaculate; the baristas here are consumate professionals.... Now, on to the breakfast burrito. I asked the sales associate for her recommendation between the lox bagel and the breakfast burrito; she stated that the Burrito was a very popular item, so I gave that a go. I was blown away. What stood out to me was the slight hint of lime in the āhuacamōlli (hear me out) made this burrito unique and special. The spice level was not overbearing and the potatoes were perfectly cooked. To wrap things up, I highly recommend Owlbear cafe, and will be visiting again when I voyage to Charleston later this summer; one thing to keep in mind with Owlbear are the portion sizes, I wouldn't call myself a "big eater"; However I was left wanting more food as the portions are very small, almost warranting a removal of star #5

They do offer a military discount, which was a nice bonus, and you can purchase food throughout the park to feed different animals. My daughter's favorite part was getting to feed the monkeys -- such a fun hands-on experience for kids. There are so many opportunities to interact with the animals up close and really enjoy the experience. The Siberian tigers were HUGE and absolutely beautiful. They also had giraffes and so many other animals that we honestly didn't even get to see everything in one trip, so we'll definitely be back. They also offer a truck tour around the property, plus there's a playground area for the kids to enjoy. It does get pretty crowded, so I definitely recommend going early, but parking was plentiful. If you have children and you're looking for a fun family-friendly experience near Charleston, I highly recommend checking out Bee City Zoo.

I felt sad walking through most of this zoo. I believe the intentions are good but the execution…read morejust isn't quite there. I will start by saying all the animals appeared to me (non-animal professional in any way) to be healthy. In general the whole place just seemed a bit ignored as far as being maintained often. In the reptile room many of the enclosures had wallpaper peeling off, information that had been written on the glass was scratched/wiped off, and it overall didn't look very well kept. Some of the monkey's had lots of space and and some just had small, mostly concrete, metal cage enclosures to move around in. The bigger animals (tigers, camel, giraffes, etc) also had considerably small enclosures for the size animal they were. The penguin's and otters' little pools were barely filled with any water so swimming wasn't an option if they wanted (it was a pretty hot day) and had gross water. They weren't big enough pools for you to convince me they can't be drained and cleaned regularly. The penguins and otters also had lots of concrete for their habitat. The lack of enrichment was also really disappointing to see for most all the animals. It seemed like the patrons were the only enrichment most of them got to look forward too. Maybe this is a bit ridiculous but it annoyed me that Christmas music played at the excavator activity...its March. Again to me just a lack of attention to details. Overall it seems like they are trying to do the things for the animals but at a very bare minimum standard. The gift shop seemed to have the most investment into it of the entire park. Do better for these animals please, most of them, as your signs indicated, are endangered.

Traveling for work and was looking for good New Orleans cooking, I found it here…read more I stopped for lunch, got hear right as the doors opened and the place was full by the time we got our drinks, good sign. Service was friendly and attentive, good atmosphere. The food only topped off the good first impression. For appetizers we got gator bites ( seasoning was so good they didn't even need sauce) second was the Andui and shrimp Mac & Cheese (amazing) I could have just eaten these and been satisfied. The shrimp and crayfish porboy was large and tasted so good, man the seasoning on the fries was so good. The batter on the fish was amazing as well. We left with food to spare and already planning on what we will get next time we're in town. And only 15min from the airport. Great job Lola!!

The crawfish was cooked well and had great flavor. The only thing we noticed was they were a bit juicy--we think they may not have soaked in the boil as long, which usually helps absorb more flavor. My husband really enjoyed them (this trip was mostly for him!), but they were a little spicy for me. I ended up getting a Caesar salad with fried crawfish tails instead, and it was huge--I only made it through about half. We also got margaritas during happy hour--both were really good. I had the lychee margarita, and my husband got the mango with a Cajun rim. Service was very good--our waiter was attentive and friendly. The only small downside was that we did feel a little rushed. It does say on the menu that they ask guests not to stay longer than 1.5 hours, so just something to keep in mind. They are pet-friendly, and we sat outside. There was plenty of outdoor seating, and the tables had umbrellas, which was nice. The only other thing we weren't thrilled about was the credit card surcharge--it was around 3-3.5%, which feels a bit high, especially since most people don't carry cash anymore. Overall, a great spot--especially if you're a crawfish fan!
