Stopped here on a road trip from Fort Wayne, IN to Jacksonville, FL. We love trying places we can't get back home when we travel. Our family of four all enjoyed the food--even with two picky teens, which says a lot! The owner was very friendly, and you can tell he's truly passionate about his restaurant and the food he serves. While searching for a good 1/2 meeting point between Jacksonville FL and Asheboro NC to meet up with family, and thanks to my fellow yelpers I found Nannie 's kitchen in Saint George SC Wow what a fantastic place to meet, honestly I would drive up for the meatloaf sandwich, it was that good! Nannies is also the meeting place for the townspeople, while we were there 2 groups of ladies who lunch came in to socialize, while several male labor workers also came in to dine. The restaurant is small and the food prep area is right behind the counter cashier but the menu is extensive and everything we had was delicious! I ordered the meatloaf sandwich and upgraded by adding cheese and bacon. I split it with niece and also had 1/2 of the Philly cheese steak sandwich. Both were fantastic! There are also homemade desserts and candy and ice cream list that huge! Looked like over 20+ flavors. The owner and staff were all super friendly and the restaurant was clean and bright! I stopped here today because I was starving and lost....lol The people in there are all very nice and hospitable and took the time to go over the many cakes, muffins, and other baked goods available. I chose the Nannie's Ultimate Club with potato salad, and it was probably the best club I have eaten. The banana pudding was delicious also. I'll let you know about the cinnamon roll after I try it. It's well worth the stop if you're near I-95 on the way to one of our beaches in the Lowcountry. read more

When in St. George this is the place to grab a quick bite to eat! They have breakfast, sandwiches, salads, ice cream, sweet treats and coffee. We split an Ultimate Club sandwich, which was perfect! St. George, South Carolina Quaint, and a warm southern welcome. That's what you get when you come to Nannie''s Ktchen. Shane and Marie Annette greeted us the minute we walked in. A real genuine greeting. They continued their friendliness by making every person here feel like a friend. The restaurant shop is small with only 5 tables. It is perfect to fit everyone comfortably. You walk in and to the right is where you order your food. Shane was quick to tell us the special of the day which was a taco salad. He went into great description making it sound delicious. I decided to order a sandwich off of the sandwich board menu. I chose the chicken salad sandwich, but put it on white bread instead of a croissant. The bread was slightly toasted. The chicken was made with grapes, pecans and celery. Added a great flavor to the sandwich. You get your choice of chips, potato salad, or pasta salad. I went with the bag of chips. The sandwich was piled high with chicken salad and with the chips it was the perfect size meal. The sandwich was served quickly as they make it right there in front of you. They have a large selection of ice cream in the back of the restaurant. Although anytime in the summer of South Carolina is ice cream good, I chose to go with the strawberry cupcake. It was chilled in the display case. The frosting was a pink heavy cream. Tasted refreshing. The cupcake itself was slightly dry. It wasn't bad. It just almost tasted like a gluten-free cupcake. This place is absolutely charming. This is the type of place you want to go for a nice sandwich, to meet with a friend and hang out for a nice lunch. It isn't often you go to a restaurant and want to go back for the food and the service. But this is one I would go back for both. read more

My kids and I made a dreaded trip to the DMV over in St. George and were looking for a place to grab lunch. We didn't want fast food, but we wanted good food! I drove around for a while as they looked up places to eat nearby (for once, I didn't complain about them being on their phone, lol). They read over Nannie's Kitchen's menu, and we headed that way. Upon entering, it was the homiest vibe, bringing me back to my grandma's house. My kids and I were lucky enough to be the only customers at the time, so we didn't feel rushed to ask a lot of questions about what they offered, including their specials (There were 5 of us together.) We walked away with filled bellies (the sandwiches and desserts we had were amazing!) and hearts after speaking to the owners about the restaurant's history. We'll definitely be back! read more

1st time here and I just had one of the best breakfast Sandwiches of my 47 years. Get the Leo!!!! Delicious....the only thing that could have made it any better would be if they had fresh rolls instead of the white toast. But this was an absolute gem of a breakfast sandwich. Yay for Nannie's Kitchen!! We are on a road trip from FL to MA and wanted to avoid fast food, support local, and not break the bank or sacrifice quality. The staff was uber friendly and accommodating. Pleasant and helpful dispositions. The young cook made our Reuben and burger, both of which were pretty darn scrumptious. He even toasted the bread on the griddle (the proper way, in my opinion). It's great to eat food prepared by someone who takes pride in their cooking and ensures that customers are truly enjoying their meals. That's a heart-centered approach and we appreciated it! We grabbed a couple sweets for the road, one of which was the Chewie. Ummmm...they weren't kidding; it was goooood! I don't know if we'll ever be in that neck of the woods again, but if we are, we will gladly drive the 2 miles off the highway to eat at Nannie's!! I would love to try their shakes! This is just that little bit of Americana that is disappearing with chains. The spot is small and very quaint but the choices were very good. I had a grilled chicken with lettuce, tomato,avocado on a very nice roll and it came with either potato chips,cole slaw or potato salad. The prices are very reasonable too. Will keep it in mind on our next trip south. read more

Stopped by on way to Florida for lunch. Looking for something non-chain and different. It's cute / ketchy inside and staff is friendly. It is pretty small inside - maybe 5-6 tables. Sandwiches were solid (sorry Gil, Reuben was pretty normal). Sides seem to be Pre made elsewhere. Also a lot of baked goods and Hershey ice cream for dessert. Prices on sandwiches were fair, deserts were pricey. But service was really slow even though it was not that busy. It was a solid choice, but suspect there are more distinctive places in the town. read more

Super cute coffee shop in a small town. There's no doubt that the food is good and handmade and what not. It's nice that they honor Veterans. Parking is available off street and since the town is quite small and quiet, this doesn't seem to be an issue. Accessible by wheelchair although you will need someone to grab the door and hold it (not powered/electric). Prices are fair, again because these are handmade and fresh items. (Not comparable to the big chain coffee shops.) Clean eating area, bathroom etc. Good job there. Like many small town, Southern businesses and establishments, there is a very heavy focus on faith and religion. Don't be surprised if you walk in on group prayer meetings. My experience on three different occasions started out feeling welcomed, but the moment you decline any kind of faith/religious, discussion or comments, you will definitely feel frowned upon and get the cold shoulder. The coffee is very good although not very hot. The pecan pie is incredibly good, make sure you buy two pieces at a time because it goes quickly. The overall decor is super cute. It's fun to fall for their playful sense of humour at the front door when you try picking up loose coins. read more

Love this place. Wish I found it when I was working in St George for 2 weeks straight, they would've seen me every day they were open. It's small but cozy and the food is spectacular. If you like small-town, hole-in-the-wall restaurants, you'll love this place. We stopped here with a large party on our way to Florida. Delicious and reasonably priced food, good service, and so many deserts. I had the potato soup and 1/2 Turkey club. Both were very good. Both were seemingly homemade as well. For desert, I would highly recommend the banana pudding. Different than I have had it before, but definitely delicious. read more

This place will not disappoint the home baked goods were so good here is a few that they has pecan brownies, pumpkin roll cake, chocolate brownies and so many more ! It's less than a mile from the highway . You can call ahead and place your order . But I'd suggest that you go and see there daily special and choose a dessert we took our dessert to eat on our long drive and regretted not getting at least one more ! Group of three hard to please queens decided to stop here on our way to St Augy. It's a hoot and good food. From the young lady with the smile and Sass in the pink hat to the beautiful, quick witted lady with the sparkling eyes who took our order, we felt right at home. My friends had the chicken bacon ranch wraps and loved them. No fuss and fresh. I had a special order club and it came out correct! We also chose chocolate cake and bread pudding for dessert. While I wished the bread pudding had some kind of creamy topping, it was served in its traditional style and was very good. The chocolate cake was very good as well. Most of the large dessert servings left with us in to go containers to enjoy on the road. Above all, the humor and playfulness of the super-friendly staff (and even the patrons!) made it a great experience. Plus, it was very reasonably priced. Go & Enjoy. My Uncle, Mom and I enjoyed this place today. Mom and I got the Reubin sandwich. VERY GOOD. My Uncle got the Ultimatte (which is all the meats) The baskets included potato salad, slaw or chips. Mom liked the slaw, but I thought the potato salad was great with bacon in it, not bacon bits but real bacon pieces. Again, very good. Mom tried the coffee ice cream and didn't even offer to share. Soothing Christian music and Onenation coffee....one of kind and ONE of the BEST spots we have just "found" driving around!! Bought a Rubin sandwich. Old dried out salt pork meat on stale store bought bread. Some nasty mustard on it. Cost $9.50. Way overpriced food from Piggly Wiggly. No deli here. Shameful. Whatever was on sandwich was unidentifiable. The basket included a small plastic cup that contained a vomitus mass that I later learned was potato salad.
