Visited with a party of over 10 people. at least half of group complained that food was overly seasoned to where the food was not enjoyed and even steaks were too salty! items ranged from fish to steak. at the beginning of night service was extremely slow and unorganized.. we were there over an hour before we were able to place our orders. toward the end service got much better. There is such a wide variety of items on the buffet. Even if you're a picky vegetarian like me, there are so many vegetables to choose from. The atmosphere is amazing! The only two reasons for a 4 & not a 5 star is #1: there used to to be a larger selection for desserts like different cakes & pies. Hint: if the restaurant would make smaller portions, then maybe not so much would get wasted. #2: There was a 1.5 hour wait. Yes, it was Mother's Day, but when I called the restaurant, I was told that there was only a 25 minute wait. Such a fun place to eat and visit- especially with children! The buffet is always great! You're seated quickly and checked on often. They have a wonderful selection of veggies, carbs, meat, and desserts! I have not tried their steakhouse but have heard great things about it. They have a meat selection that looks wonderful! They used to have a farmers market but no longer do. They still have a few veggies to purchase along with candies and baked goods. As for the safari- it was lovely. I am so glad we have a place like this in Mississippi. My nephews adored feeding the animals and then the petting zoo. You can purchase tickets in advance along with food to feed the animals. I personally would not recommend purchasing more than one 24 oz cup per person as the safari ride isn't too long. Overall it's a great venue with a lot to see, do, and eat! read more

This is a review of the entire facility, not just the restaurant. Their entry gift shop / general store is adorable and filled with charming things. There is quite a bit of animal fur bags that I think are a unnecessary and the gun shop seems out of place. The staff in these areas seems friendly. The tavern has ever alcohol that could be imagined and the steakhouse is an interesting idea. I just took a peak at these, but did not use them. I went for the lunch buffet and found the food to be very tasty and I have happy with the options and the speed the buffet was restocked; however, the service was terrible. We were sat without so much of a hello, just a question of how many and told that the server would be by soon for drink orders. After going to the buffet and eating about half our plates we decided to flag someone down to get some waters. A different server dropped off the waters and then a third that we hadn't seen before dropped off the check. They were full but not busy. I have a personal pet peeve of sitting more tables than you have servers to serve them and it seemed like this may have been what happened here. We would've rather waited for 15 minutes and had an attentive server than having to flag down people. In the barn area there were a lot of animals. They were in some terrible enclosures and obviously anxious as the paces back and forth in their tiny, wire-bottomed cages. They were selling rabbits, guinea pigs, and sheep. The rabbits and guinea pigs were being sold for $25 - however the medical care that would've been required to get the rabbits healthy would've been a few hundred dollars. They did not have adequate space or the correct hay that should make up 80% of their diet, and one of them had an abscess on his chin. I doubt that the staff could even accurately gender the rabbit if I had asked. Out in the pasture there were lots of different animals that looked in relatively good condition, but the field was covered in poop. Ever 3 feet there was a pile, I can only imagine that it covered every hoof of all of the animals in the pasture. It does not seem like there is proper maintenance of this area for the number of animals, just using them to exploit for the $17.50 train tour. There was even an alpaca stuck between one of the three fences out in a corner. Don't get me wrong, I love zoos, petting zoos, animal encounters, all of it. But this is not the way to care for these animals. They have invested so much to their facility, but there is so much more that should be done. They are looking to turn a profit for animals that have so much for value than that. I thought the food was worth coming back for, by there are plenty of places that serve southern food without the side of animal neglect. Take your children somewhere that teaches them that the animals have more value that being kept in a cage and poked at for their life. read more

Chicken, greens, sweet potatoes,macaroni, black eyed peas, corn muffin, salad, Arnold Palmer for my drink and a piece of pie. Sounds good right?!? What's not good: greens; taste like canned greens thrown in a pot with no seasoning. Black eyed peas; soak in vinegar. Corn muffin; hard. What's good: chicken; fried and seasoned. Macaroni; just enough cheese to want more. Sweet potatoes; a little too sweet like a dessert. The service was bare minimum. At the end of the day.... this would not be in my top list of places to revisit. read more

My husband and I stopped here for lunch and it was really good! Our waiter Anthony was very polite! The buffet has a nice variety and the food was tasty! They have a down home southern buffet! The chicken was a little salty and the sweet potatoes were too sweet and I didn't care for the cake I had, but they have a good salad bar, the potato salad is amazing, the fish was great and it was all in all a great meal! In addition to the restaurant they have a trial ride petting zoo ( I haven't done that, but my sister has, and she loved it), they have a nice size farmer's market, a night time steakhouse and tavern, and a general store! My BF surprised me with a private safari tour for my birthday and reservations to their steakhouse. We moved to Jackson, MS from Los Angeles, CA not too long ago, so we've been wanted to explore the area more. He found this place online, but couldn't find much info about it, so he asked his boss about it. His boss highly recommended this experience. The tour was great! We had plenty of feed for all the animals, and our two tour guides gave us more than enough time at all the stop to take pictures and feed them. I forgot their names, but they were very friendly, fun, and super informative too. It was really cool to ride in a WW1/WW2 medical van. It was a bumpy ride, but was still awesome. Not gonna lie, the animals sticking their heads into our van and aggressively wanting to be feed was hilarious and made me feel a bit nervous. But all was fine, they just want food. They also have a self driving tour where you can feed them from your own car and walk through feeding/petting area. We also fed giraffes fresh lettuce and otters live minnows for an extra small fee. It was totally worth it! After our tour, we had dinner at the steakhouse. I got the ribeye and my BF got the NY strip, along with a baked crab dip and the meat & cheese board. Both steaks were really nicely done. Everything was yummy! Our waitress Mattie went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable especially because our order was running a bit behind. She was very sweet and friendly. We didn't have any complaints about the wait, but she and her manager sent over a drink (an Old Fashion for him) and dessert (creme brûlée for me) on the house anyways. We really appreciated it! So, yesterday our family tried breakfast at this place and it was well below average. My wife & I ordered the "Hoop cheese" & sausage omelette which had no cheese and about a tea spoon of minced link sausage in it. It was so bad that it could have been a joke. Another family member ordered the poached eggs on greens; the eggs were way over cooked with firm yokes. Another family member had the pancakes, which were OK (Hard to mess up pancakes). Service was slow and anxious. We agreed we'd had much better (and much cheaper) breakfasts at Waffle House. An aside: someone spent a huge amount of money creating this place. I can't help wonder how much revenue they project from restaurant sales. The investors need to drastically improve the quality of their food or this place is doomed and that's just sad. read more

We'll, let's give the caveats out of the way first. This is a fairly new establishment, and this was our first visit. Also, we arrived right after Church, and the place was packed. Surprisingly, we were given a table almost immediately. The fare on Sunday is typical country fare served on buffet. The choices were roast, sliced pork, baked and fried chicken. Veggies were greens, butter beans, squash, and mashed potatoes. Mac and cheese was also available. A fresh salad bar and deserts closed out the menu. I selected the pork with Lima's and salad; my wife took the baked chicken and greens. She added a salad later. Unfortunately, this's restaurant was a disappointment. The food was only average. The salad bar had spoiled cherry tomatoes. Our service was spotty - the tables had neither salt nor pepper, and we had to ask for napkins. Our server was a bit harried, and took my plate before I was finished. Our bill totaled $25.00. I really hate not being able to give a rave review for this neat place. The accommodations are pleasant, and the management's opportunity for a big hit are tremendous. I hope to try McLain's again with hopes we caught them on an off day. read more

I have no idea why this place has any bad reviews. Where else in this state are you getting mac and cheese with fried chicken, while having drinks and looking out at the buffalo, zebra, camels, and giraffe? Come on people! I hate buffets, but this place is a game changer. It is actually really good and reasonably priced. Service was exceptional from the hostess to the petting zoo staff. This establishment is freaking awesome for this area. Mississippi, especially Jackson, needs this. Who knew! It's actually awesome. The kids loved it and we will definitely be back with friends. Country cooking style buffet each time and was told that once a week there is a seafood night. We will definitely keep coming here and certainly recommend giving it a try. We live in Brandon so the drive isn't that far but even if you live in Madison it's worth it. Update...the breakfast buffet is really great and only 8 bucks plus your drink(s). My wife and I arrived at 7:00 am (McClain's posted starting time) and found the Buffet line almost empty !! There were a couple of fruit items, several jellies, a breakfast casserole containing sausage, eggs, potatoes, onions and cheese, cream gravy, and bacon. NO BISCUITS or TOAST !! NO EGGS, NO FRIED POTATOES, NO FRENCH TOAST, NO SAUSAGE !! The above mentioned items began to arrive between 7:25 and 7:50 am These were the bad things about our visit, but when the missing food items were put out, they were HOT and DELICIOUS. I thought the biscuits were some of the best I have ever tasted. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The server we had was named HALEY and she was definitely the saving grace during the first 30 minutes of our visit. She was very apologetic and gracious during our long wait for food. We will defi return again and hopefully this late food arrival will have been addressed by the management and will not happen again. We returned this morning 9-15-2018 at 7:00 am and found the breakfast bar TOTALLY FILLED OUT !! The food was again deeelicious and hot. This will be a definite place for our Saturday breakfast. Really awesome place! Lots to do!! We came on Father's Day weekend the night before the actual day for the seafood buffet! Our experience was good due to the server we had! Patrick was his name he was very entertaining and really kept things going! The buffet was a little confusing. We were told we couldn't be seated for dinner until 4:30, although there were already people eating. Turns out I later figured out on my own that one side of the buffet was the left over lunch side and the other side was the seafood buffet. My son and husband hit up the lunch side due to the items like Mac and cheese and veggies which is fine, but I could tell it had been sitting there awhile. They were of course charged for the seafood buffet but I don't think either of them actually ate anything off the seafood side. My son however ordered the crab legs which are an additional $3 charge per pound. They had a good taste but were not seasoned at all. The seafood I ate was good but a little over cooked. I will definitely give this place another try! And just the overall experience of the building was impressive! read more
