Great to have this shopping option in the village. Shopping online is so impersonal and it's good to interact with people in the community.

If you like old lady clothes, sweaters that light when you shake someone's hands, or rude customer service go to McCaulous!

I love McCaulous (Montclair), it's a nice size, has a decent collection, and has a great old school department store feel to it.

Oh hell no! Cub Scout shirt, cap, neckerchief, neckerchief clip, 3 small patches and book = $85. No wonder we all shop online!

The Montclair location could up its service game..... the shoe department is better than the other departments.

Filthy, massive long lines, no room to push a shopping cart down any aisles, for all the indifferent employees wandering around like they were high (who can blame them, working there?), and the shelves poorly stocked. I drove a HALF HOUR to this location for a small kitchen appliance I needed to cook with since my stove is broken, and this was the closest to where I live. I tried ordering it online, the online ordering was seizing up, the item said "in stock," so I thought it would be "in stock" if I walked in and bought it in-store. NOPE. Gone from the shelf. I was not familiar with any part of San Leandro, and no one EVER answers a phone in ANY California Walmarts in Customer Service (you'd die trying, with the phone ringing for the next 50 years). So I had to drive in. The parking lot is like a convention of the most depressing and depressed-looking people on Earth and everything just looked filthy. I think the inside of County Jail is cleaner. So I drove to another Walmart a 9 minute drive away, the one on Hesperian, hoping I wouldn't be met with the same nightmare; I wasn't. The Hesperian one was clean, the lines moved fast, and the shelves were well stocked. In this one on Davis, the impression is just chaos and anarchy in the entire store. The Hesperian one is still a Walmart (and God help anyone for braving any of them), but at least THERE (NOT HERE!) I was able to get what I came in for, and leave, within a short time.

I've been a big fan of Target for many years, but recently I've been disappointed in the direction…read morethey are taking--and especially the San Mateo location. In the grocery section, their corporate direction seems to be stocking more and more of their store brands with much less nationally branded products. For example, they have almost no Early California olives, and all Archer Farms or another of their brands. Since it's unknown who makes these products, I don't buy them. The prices are sometimes higher than the national brands. I've always purchased Viva paper towels at Target in San Mateo and now they've replaced these with their own brand of a poor-quality product. (note that other locations still carry Viva, just not San Mateo). I know they make better margins on their own brands, but customers do have brand loyalty on some products. I find myself making the drive to Walmart more frequently--much better selection and much lower prices. Target once was known for fun, good-quality seasonal items. I have many that are now part of our family collection of decorations. Now they have a smaller selection at cheap Dollar Store quality. I guess they don't want it to last multiple seasons! They have also locked up many items at this store. I understand theft and their need to do this, but I've pressed the buzzer and waited 10+ minutes, and no one ever comes. This has happened on dozens of visits. Many times, while I'm waiting, I use the store Wi-Fi to order the item from Amazon. Not only am I frustrated, but it also takes away from the time I had planned to spend in the store--so I buy less. In this time where customers are looking for value, Target seems to be concentrating on their own profits.
