If you think you need help from this place , think again. I have called asking to make appoint front end alignments and each time I was told that they were booked out two weeks . Thats normal what isn't normal is being added to a call back list and never getting a call back. Called asking about tire prices and an appointment to have them installed (6 tires on a dually and premium tires to boot. That's two weeks plus and we'll call you back , no call back . So I call back and ask can I purchase the tires ahead of time and make sure they're waiting for me when you guys make an appointment for me ? No we don't want a pile of tires in the way ... call you back to make an appointment in about two weeks..Now four weeks have gone by I'm in a waiting list for tires and I call back wondering if they have an opening yet ? We don't have a waiting list like that sir. Well I was told four weeks ago there was a waiting list and it would be two weeks to get in , then I called again and was told I was still on the list and now four weeks in total have gone by and I'd just like to buy some tires and get them mounted. It will be about two weeks and we'll call you back and let you know when your tires are in . Then they hung up and never got any information from me so they don't know who to call. Months pass and I never get a call , I go and get tires from somewhere else . Now I need some tires foam filled for a specific application. I call them again because the internet says they foam fill tires . I spoke with someone and they told me that they couldn't get the price right now and that someone would have to call me back.... Can't say their work is bad because they won't do anything for me . However their communication is deplorable . read more

I called them to see if they could repair a nail hole and they were able to do it the same day no problem. The folks there were nice and the technician had me back on the road in 30 minutes for $25. read more

My family has been coming to these guys for years for minor inspections and major jobs like timing belt/water pump changes. They are extremely fair with their prices. Most recently they did a state inspection and found that low power steering fluid was causing excessive start-up noise on my vehicle. They topped off the fluid for free. read more

WHAT A JOKE! I went here for a squeak that was so loud on my truck i just couldn't take it any more. They were OK on promptness but when they finally did take a look at my truck, nothing was wrong. The first thing I asked them was ....Did you take it for a ride? NO! WHAT! how are you suppose to find a noise if you didn't even drive it or try. I'M NOT THE MECHANIC HERE..of course they couldn't find anything wrong it all looks good to them. Me being royally upset. I just leave I wouldn't give these people the time of the day to even look at my truck again. And it diffidently seem like they wanted my business. So I brought it up the street not even half mile and it was fixed within 2 hours of me telling them how much of an idiot these people are. turns out broken ball bearings. Squeak is gone and this place has wasted 2 hours of my life!!! read more

I am saddened to leave this review since I have taken my vehicles to McCarthy's for about 5 years. I recently moved to PA, but continue to drive a borrowed vehicle which is registered in VA, requiring a VA state inspection. I had a trip to NC planned, so it made sense to pop into McCarthy's on the way. To avoid a surprise "fail" and sabotage my trip, I had my PA mechanic go ahead and inspect the vehicle. It passed just fine, so a month later when I traveled south, I stopped in at McCarthy's in Culpeper for a quick VA inspection/sticker, anticipating no problems. To my surprise McCarthy's "found" leaking brake fluid and that my emergency brake would not hold. He could order the parts and the bill would be a shocking $800. Astonished, I wondered how this could happen in just 30 days after a clean inspection in another state? When I mentioned it had just passed in PA, the rep's facial expression changed just a bit and it occurred to me that he might not be telling the whole truth. In a hurry for my granddaughter's birthday in NC, and with a FAILED sticker on my windshield, I continued my trip, thinking I'd have to get the car fixed at home in PA and drive back to VA for a re-inspection. What a pain! But as I passed Gretna, VA, I decided to pull in to Perkins Auto and try one more time. In very short order, I had a clean inspection sticker and a mechanic telling me there was nothing whatsoever wrong with my car. He shook his head and confirmed I had been lied to. There was nothing at all wrong with my brakes. He explained that places who pay on commission sometimes lie in order to get work. Makes me wonder about all the work I've had done at McCarthy's over the years. Were those jobs necessary? read more

We have used McCarty Tire for about 10 years. Even though "McCarthy" is a chain it has all the qualities of a local homegrown shop. There has never been a time when we have come in that we haven't been called by name before getting to the counter. They are honest and accurate.
