John and Trevor were very professional and competent. Our Yukon XL has been leaking oil for years, and I only wish we'd come to them sooner. John was thorough in gathering information and explaining on the front end, and then as we looked at the quote, both men were very helpful. Trevor is a wizard of a mechanic and did a terrific job explaining what he did! They also performed great work on our daughter's Hyundai Accent, fixing a problem our usual shop couldn't identify a couple of times. Shorty's was our last shot at fixing that vehicle before disposing of it and getting her something else. We are very grateful and highly recommend these good folks. Thank you again read more

Shorty's is under New Management and Trevor and John are doing a fantastic job. The front office is clean and orderly, the work on my car was wonderful - they caught an issue that had been happening for years and remedied it! - the new electronic invoice system made it very easy to see what my car needed and associated costs. Different from my previous experiences, everyone was so nice and respectful. They have gained a customer for life here. read more

Found Short's Garage when I moved into the area in 2012. honest, affordable, and professional. Great communication with the mechanics.. They work on all my vehicles now. read more

We called to have some repairs done on our Traverse using our warranty where per the company, we are allowed to choose any shop of our choice. We had heard good things about Shortys and being we live on the same street, thought it convenient. We dropped over the weekend and my husband called on Monday morning to explain what we needed and he was met with nothing but attitude and rudeness. He was told they wouldn't take our warranty unless we paid up front (which our warranty company said was not necessary) and then we'd be reimbursed. When my husband went to pick up our car he was also met with rudeness, being asked "what do you want" when he walked in to get our keys. Even my 8 year old came home telling me how rude the man was. I'm not sure why we encountered such a rude experience but my husband said the man looked him up and down with a nasty face and figured it's because he is Hispanic. Too bad because we were happy to give this garage our business! read more

I found Shorty's Garage in 2006, Always been fair reasonable, and on time as suggested. No up sales. Fair State Inspections. If you can find a better establishment than this shop, please post. I bounced Between Shortys and James Long Auto Repair (James retired this June 2024). Jim, Gary, and Jim's son are HONEST MECHANICS, A DYING BREED, and not part-changing technicians. read more

Outstanding service. Needed to have shocks replaced on my 1987 Cadillac. The staff was courteous and efficient. Made sure that the air ride suspension system was in complete working order after the new shocks were installed. Will visit them again! read more

Shorty's has been my go-to mechanic for YEARS. They know their craft, they don't b.s. you around and their prices are unbeatable. I live in Alexandria and will take my car there before I let any of these northern VA dealers touch it. I hope they never go out of business. read more

Many garages rip women off. I called to ask a couple questions to see if they would do a job many garages wouldn't do, let me bring my own parts. Most garages wanted to charge $1400 for a part I found for $300 (new). When I told this garage, they said, "bring it over" and "when do you want to come by?" They did the job and inspected my vehicle and was VERY affordable. I wll be sure to return. I almost didn't want to post a review because I feared they would get too busy for me next time I need to return. These are really good, honest people. Another bonus, they answer the phone when you call them. I thank God for letting me find them. read more

Excellent and honest service. Family owned and operated for decades. Seem to only want to fix cars correctly and do right by their customers. Highly recommended. read more

Like Family. That's the way Shorty did it, the way Jim, Gary, and Tony do it, and the way their next generation will do it as well. Tucked away behind Rt. 1 is a gem of a garage that has been advertised through word-of-mouth for over 2 decades. Customer's "in the know" count ourselves among the lucky ones; we don't have to worry about our cars once Shorty's has taken care of them. They'll work on anything, whether import or domestic, car or truck, rusted jalopy or sparkling Benz. They specialize in high-performance work too, for y'all that like power and speed. They're also a State Inspection station, and accept all forms of payment. Honesty and Trust are the most important things to look for when mechanic-shopping. In today's world, it's all too common for an auto repair shop to screw over it's customers. But I'll put my name on the line that you can trust these guys. They do everyone right, and they do impeccable work. Don't trust your car, a vital investment and means of transportation, to anyone else in the area. read more

Very reliable, very honest, and great communication with the status of my auto repair. Their staff is quiet but professional and very kind. They fixed my car at a very reasonable rate. I would TOTALLY recommend them for service. Especially for single women. They aren't condescending at all and explain things in simple terms. read more

I am giving them five stars because I trust them. They are not overly friendly, but they are very honest and always try to work with me and save me money. The reason I go there is to get my car repaired and since I dont know a whole lot about cars it is really nice to know I am not buying a bunch of useless parts. They arent there to be chatty or overly friendly, and although that would be nice, I am fine with the short exchanges as long as there work is good and I can trut them...which I can. read more

This place is the best and the only place I take my vehicle to get repairs. Always honest and reliable. I have total confidence that the guys at the shop will do great quality work and that I will be charged a fair price. They are quiet and straightforward, but are good at explaining things when needed. The shop is located off a quiet neighborhood street. I always feel safe leaving my car there. Most recently had my break pads replaced and something done with the rotors. They also checked some repairs I had done in San Diego before I came back for a work contract (I'm a travel nurse). read more

I have been a customer of Shorty's Garage since Gary and Jim bought it during the mid-1980's. Gary had already been working on my vehicles since 1980, so it was a natural progression for me. They, along with Tony and Jason, are honest, reliable, and expert mechanics, and their prices are always reasonable and fair. I won't take my vehicles anyplace else. If they tell me that I need to have something fixed I know that it does indeed need to be repaired. They have also saved me a lot of money when applicable by recommending a less expensive, albeit entirely safe and appropriate alternative repair, when available. I trust them completely. My wife and I have sent many new customers to them, and every one of them, without exception, has thanked us for sending them to these great mechanics and saving them money at the same time. read more

Dropped my son's truck off, for what we thought was a Fuel Pump issue. Most quotes in the area ranged from $600-$1200 for the repair. It ended up just being a bad cam sensor - $206! Honest mechanics are hard to come by, especially when you are a clueless girl. Happy about finding great mechanics, I dropped my car off for a state inspection. They found a loose tie rod (just got my car back from being in a front end accident less than a week ago), they called and asked if I had been in a front end accident recently, b/c of the tie rod. This should have been repaired by the Auto Body, but apparently was missed. Needless to say Shorty's is repairing it and the insurance company is reimbursing me. If you are looking for honest mechanics, come here. If you want a fancy waiting room with coffee and sodas, with Service Writers trying to sell you a bunch of stuff - this is not your place. I'll take honesty over fancy anyday. read more

We've been going to Shorty's for probably 20 years, with all of our vehicles, and we have ALWAYS found them to be honest, completely reliable, and on time. They do great work, and we trust them to do what's needed and no more. They are reasonably priced and experienced - we TOTALLY recommend them! Very grateful have such a great personally owned and operated small business available to us. These guys don't need to advertise, because they have years of happy and satisfied customers who spread the word! read more
