Busy pub on Charlemont Street filled with thirsty souls and hungry patrons. Located down the street from our hotel it was very convenient to have our first taste of Ireland. I had my first Guinness and Irish stew. My husband had the Lamb shank. Both were delicious! However the mussels were the highlight of dinner. The best Mussels were in hat I ever tasted. Also our waitress was amazing. If you are near, make sure to stop in.

The Barge is a nice, comfortable spot for a pint or bite along the canal between City Centre and Ranelagh. It's not an old, authentic sort of spot, but it is a spacious and pleasant place with decent food, good drinks, and plenty of TVs for watching sports. On a nice day, you can sit on the sidewalk and enjoy watching people (and swans) stroll along the canal.

Very friendly , Irish stew was excellent after a long day of traveling and the servers advice on beer ( he is proud of the local) was spot on , definitely will eat here again, great value for the money

Ok, so they've got a fantastic location overlooking the canal and on a fine Dublin day, the customers can spill out onto the bank of the canal, no questions asked. Love! But that's about it for me, this pub just doesn't win out for me... First of all, it's October, I'm seated indoors at the bar on the middle level - WHAT'S WITH ALL THE FLIES????? Was very off putting, waving them away constantly and only for a match was in full swing on the TV box, I would have left sooner. The food on was Carvery, yep, one of them pubs! Seriously Carvery, can't deal with half hearted food slopped on a plate :-(

The Barge Inn, or The Barge, as it is more commonly known, is a great spot. Whether it's after work drinks on a Friday when the sun is shining, for a big sports game, or just for a night out, it's always really fun and entertaining. It's a little off the beaten track Charlemont St, but it's still only a short walk to Stephens Green, and right beside the new 'strip' aka Harcourt St. I've had a great few nights here dancing away beside the dj booth upstairs. The music's great - a real mix of everything. Pop, oldies, chart etc. They do great food too. And my favourite thing is at xmas - they always have huge big decorations outside. They go all out every year.

If you wanna find a way to spend a sunny afternoon then look no further. It doesn't get much better when the sun comes out then grabbing a drink in the barge and sitting on the canal. Nice after work crowd and friendly staff. It's a must try. Ps. They throw a great Super Bowl party

Proper pour of Guinness, contemporary music and a nice atmosphere. What more can you ask for on a first night in Dublin. Will probably have lunch here over the weekend due to some of the decent reviews here on Yelp. Definitely looking forward to more experiences here.

We just landed in Dublin & got settled into our hotel then popped outside on the streets for a bit to grab a drink when no more than a block it began to rain so we fell right into The Barge... the live music was a welcome, the crowd was happy, drinks were refreshing & the bar service was friendly! All smiles. We love that. Thank You! We will be back again.

no where like it on a summers eve....

As pubs go this place is grand - which translates into English as yeah, no big deal... UNTIL you come across the pub on a hot sunny summers eve and you see the hundreds of people who accumulate outside to hang out by the canal and drink and laugh and enjoy that rarest of all things, a cold pint on a warm eve in Dublin. Also noteworthy is the Barge at Christmas - for the past few years 7-up have sponsored a hue display tat covers the entire front of the pub which is fast becoming a landmark at that time of year!

Gorgeous space within an old Bank Building, with great happy energy or "Craic". Nice mix of locals and tourists. 2. Nice more intimate dining on the Mezzanine. Even the group at the adjacent table seemed far away. Even with limited people watching opportunities, it was fun to look down on the main floor and on our level catch glimpses of a young date in progress. 3. Friendly and pleasant wait person. 4. Both Don and Fern enjoyed their Butternut and Ricotta Ravioli Dish and their Chocolate Brownie for Dessert. 3 of us also enjoyed the local Clockwork Stout. +/- 1. The pro-Palestinian trappings were perhaps a little too "in your face", starting with the big flag at the entrance, and proceeding to the small pin worn by the wait person. I otherwise have no issues with folks expressing their opinions. 2. Gayle's French 75 was just OK. CON 1. Gayle and I ordered the burger which we found overcooked and largely inedible. The much more tasty chips weren't enough to make up for this. 2. Gayle loved her Irish Coffee (See Picture).

This old-school pub features an ornate Victorian decor with filigreed mirrors and carved-wood snugs (enclosed booths). In addition to perfectly poured Guinness, the pub is known for serving potent gin and tonics. we spent some nice time here and it was really beautiful.

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.

Foley's has two floors, the downstairs area offers live music but no real food menu so we headed upstairs. The place was crowded (later learned there was an American football game in town with 30,000 fans from Georgia Tech and Florida State; in future I would avoid visiting Dublin during this time!) Foley's offers typical pub food in a casual sports bar atmosphere. My chicken tenders were nicely spiced and meaty, although the accompanying fries were kind of bland. Fish and chips were good too. Service was slow but that's to be expected on a crowded evening. We were surprised to see the check in $USD (no choice of currency offered) rather than in Euros (the coin of the realm), with a 8.75% "exchange rate markup fee" tacked on to the total. We weren't given a choice of currency as stated on the bill (see picture). I've never seen this done elsewhere, seems like a petty way to make a bit of extra money from unsuspecting tourists. We were tired and the place was crowded so we paid and left without comment. But that unwarranted currency fee didn't leave a good taste in our mouths at all.
