McKenzye was pleasant and professional with taking our order, bringing our food to the table and making sure everything was good. We had a gift card, which was printed out on paper that she needed help processing. Enter Cody. We watched him professionally teach her how to process the order, then engaged us in pleasant conversation. Our food was prepared and sitting in the window before we had finished paying. The front register folks need to be trained on how to work a register and speak to people! If 6 people order 6 half sandwiches, one would expect 6 boxes....nope, they are all in 3 boxes, not labeled and no receipt! Never again! This place is overloaded with attitude and incompetence. Welcome to McAlister's Deli. This is a very good sandwich and salad shop we went to in Columbia SC. You walk in order from a counter that has the menu behind counter. Staff was welcoming and friendly. We had a large group and they were very accommodating. I ordered the New Yorker. A big meaty sandwich with 10 ounces of corned beef and pastrami with Swiss and spicy brown mustard on a marbled rye. This thing is HUUGE!!!! Glorious meat stuffed marble rye with a tangy brown mustard and a pickle on the side. I may have had some chips but really, it's about the sandwich. Soft drinks are filled from behind the counter so refills are hard to come by if place is busy. Thank you for dining at McAlister's Deli. They have many locations across the country so if I am ever near one I may try some other locations. If you see one and need a good filling sammich or salad, check them out. read more

Before we begin, let me just say that I'm from NYC. Born and raised, and so I know good pastrami. I was in Columbia for a wedding. I had a number of hours to kill, so I went to McAllister's as it was very close to my hotel. I walked in at around 12 noon on a Sunday. There was a good number of people sitting at the tables, and a decent-sized line to order food. When I got to the counter, a young gentleman helped me, an African-American guy with long dreads. He was very nice, and helpful. I ordered pastrami on a ciabatta roll, with a side of steamed spinach and a small Coke. The entire meal cost me $9.32. A nice young lady brought my food outside to me within a few minutes. The broccoli was good. As for the pastrami? It was good. It wasn't great and it wasn't horrible. It was just okay. By the time I was leaving, a lot more people came, and the restaurant was pretty busy. Not certain I wouldn't visit this restaurant again if ever in the area as there are lots of other places around to eat. read more

Plenty of staff present and no clean tables. We cleaned a table off ourselves. We watched as one employee who had his pants sagging well below his rear end pretended to clean tables as he moved plates from one table to another and would only walk away with three cups at a time. Hard to mess up a salad so with that in mind, this place is pretty consistent with other locations. I got half a salad and it was pretty tasting. Make sure to go with their recommended dressing to get the beat combination of flavors. It wasn't crazy busy and our order (4people) took more than expected. It was tasty however. We have ordered twice from this location this past week using the delivery option. The first time, we received chipotle mayo with a salad rather than dressing, had the stem of an avocado in the salad and were missing pickles from sandwich order which requested a pickle. The second time only half of our order was delivered. I told the door dash delivery driver and he said he was going back to get the other half. I called the restaurant to let them know as well and they confirmed it was still there. 45 mins later nobody came back and the restaurant was closed. I called back and the managers were confused and eventually refunded half my order, but that left 2 family members without dinner and by that time it was too late to order anywhere else. I've always enjoyed McAlister's and we are new to the area and would give them a lot of business but can't trust to order moving forward after 2 poor experiences without any acknowledgment from their management team. Myself and a couple of friends dined at McAlister's deli, in Harbison, Columbia, SC this past Sunday. Upon entering, I notice the place is nearly empty at 7 pm​, and no one is greeting us. We all ordered water, but my friends got lemon in theirs, I did not. My partner and I ordered individual salads, which were HUGE! Our friends ordered sandwiches. Which must have been good because they ate them very quickly. My salad was the grilled chicken with bacon and was really good, the chicken was cooked just right, but there was barely any bacon.​ Then I sipped my water and it tasted like dirt. So I asked my dining companions, if their water taste like dirt, after a few sips two of the three said yes it did. I tried it again, mine was undrinkable, so I brought the drink up and told them the water taste like dirt. They did not care, no apology or talk to the manager. I asked for a kids drink, rather than a full size. Note: no one came to table about the "bad" water that everyone else at the table had, nor to see if everyone's meal was okay or to see if we needed anything. I know this is not fine dining, but I have eaten at other McAlisters and they always have checked on the table at least once, heck even (fast food) Wendy's does that! read more

There was 3 pieces of chicken on the potato the potato wasn't cooked it is still so hard I have never had this problem in mcallister I am very disappointed. For a fast food joint with healthy options, this place is legit. If this was a sit-down $$ restaurant, I'd probably rate it at a 3, but considering the format, this place is great. Had the black cherry salad and the grilled chicken spud (pick 2). Everything was cooked well and tasted great. The gorgonzola on the salad really made it for me. Very good deli sandwiches. I really love the 3-cheese griller; grown-up grilled cheese. Service is really good. And yes, the baked potatoes dishes are actually 2 potatoes but they are good and filling. Only problem, the restaurant also caters food for businesses; and they prep the lunch boxes in dinning area of the restaurant; yuck & the wi-fi does not work well. And they do have kids' menu & kids eat free one night a week. Visit McAlister's at least once a month. read more

Being so far from home, I decided to try something not available in my state. So happy I did!! The turkey jalapeño sandwich I ordered was delicious!! Perfectly blended with just the right amount of heat for my tastes. I also order one of the spuds, black angus to be exact...and never in my life have I seen such a big loaded potato!! The restaurant was clean and the employees were helpful and friendly. The Cole slaw tasted good and did not have excess mayonnaise.
