We recently completed a major, year-long home remodel with MCA to make our home safe and suitable for our senior years. They beautifully transformed all three bathrooms, our master bedroom, family room, living room, laundry room, stairs, hallways, and converted a bedroom into an office. They even seamlessly blended the new family room with our existing kitchen design and flawlessly integrated essential safety handrails and bathroom grab bars. We found the team at MCA to be excellent. The owner, Mitch, is an honest, down-to-earth businessman who got involved when needed. Our project leader, Nestor, had outstanding workmanship and communication skills and ensured we were completely satisfied. Efrain stepped in later and was instrumental in resolving design challenges to bring the project to completion. Sophia is a talented, hardworking interior decorator who needs to be cloned! The crews were skilled, trustworthy, and respectful. While we faced a couple of scheduling setbacks, MCA handled them professionally. The final cost aligned perfectly within our expected budget with zero hidden surprises. We delayed writing this review to live in our newly remodeled house for awhile. After three months we can confidently say the quality of their work is excellent, and we would hire MCA again in a heartbeat! read more

Once Mitch was served with the small claims court filing, and after many discussions with him, we were able to reach an agreement. Although it was difficult to get him to complete the work before the small claims action was filed, he ultimately followed through with all of the agreed-upon repairs. We did have to stay on top of the progress and continue following up with him to keep the work moving forward. Overall, the work is finally complete, and we can now fully enjoy our backyard. read more

I requested an estimate for a remodeling job. I expected it to take a few weeks to get the proposal. I checked in with Mitch 10 days after our meeting to which he replied, "I have your estimate being worked on and I'm hoping to get it completed by the end of today." It did not come. I called the office 10 days after that and asked for an update. No response. I texted Mitch 1 month after our initial visit to get the status of his proposal. He stated he never finished my kitchen drawing. A few hours later I received two very basic computer-generated renderings of my kitchen, no explanation, no costs, no quote, nothing else. When I complained, he said, "would you like me to send over your estimate this evening?" How do you even respond to this? He's asking me a month later if I'd like him to send an estimate?? Note, I did not receive a single communication from Mitch or his team for the entire month other than the day we met. They could have reached out to let me know the status. They may be the best builders in town but I wouldn't use them after this experience. read more

We've worked with Mitch Alves and MCA Remodeling for seven years on mutiple projects-our guest bath, kitchen and great room remodel, master bath and laundry room, and most recently our roof, paint, trim and pavers. Every project has been on time, fairly priced and beautifully done. Mitch and his team communicate well, offer expert design guidance, and their craftsmanship is top notch. They also helped us with great contacts for our garage door and solar installation. MCA has consistently delivered, and we highly recommend them read more

We had a particularly complex kitchen remodel, which involved removing a wall, reworking plumbing and power, and replacing all cabinets and flooring. We ultimately got the kitchen we wanted, and MCA kept the project on budget. The project made the front half of our house like new; much more functional. Some workers were impressively skilled and creative with coming up with solutions to problems encountered. It was sufficiently complex that it took some patience to see it through, but we set high expectations and they delivered in the end. read more

We had the owner come out and look at some remodeling we needed done in our home. He said they would get an estimate worked up and sent to us within two weeks. We never heard back even after following up! Horrible customer service and poor communication. read more

We were lucky to meet Mitch, who came to our house to give us a quote, at the San Jose home show regarding a custom outdoor gazebo. Granted, the start of the project took a little longer than we expected but it was well worth the wait. MCA Remodeling - a patio with a table and chairs - General Contractors Near Me - Hayward, California

We met Mitch and Sophia at the Santa Clara Convention Center Home and Garden Show last November. At the time we had about 5 other leads to do our kitchen remodel. I discovered that Mitch had been in business for quite a while and that he was local. We met at his showroom in Hayward and started discussing the scope of our remodel. From then, it was on. We were serious about going ahead and started thinking how to plan this into our life. Mitch and Sophia came to see our kitchen and listen to what we wanted, confirming our possibilities and sharing ideas. They helped us shop for appliances too. Our granddaughter helped with the colors. They gave us a timeline on when we could expect our cabinets to be made and how long the job would take. The crew was skillful and worked continually and methodically until the work was completed. They knew what had to be done and were scheduled for each phase of the work. All the cabinets and appliances were delivered as they were ready to install them. Our kitchen is beautiful and the time to completion was great. Thank you MCA! read more

This company was amazing, they came in and gave me a quote. Stuck to the price, started my project early and finished on time. The staff was really polite and knowledgeable from the office to the crews. When looking for a contractor, look no further. The owner has a really cool truck too! MM read more

Mitch came out to our house to discuss updating our overhang in the backyard and as we talked he gave us some great options for a pergola and a new outdoor kitchen. After him laying out a very functional design and fair pricing we said okay and they started 2 days earlier than what they had committed to. Also, they finished right on time. Well the finish product was better than what we could have ever imagined with an incredible new pergola and outdoor kitchen. The team did an excellent job from beginning to end while Mitch personally managed the project. Thank you MCA read more

My experience with MCA was ideal from the start. I met Mitch at the home show in Pleasanton, and week later he was at our home listening to our thoughts and quickly working up an estimate. We put a deposit down and got on the books for our job. Met with the office staff (Rick) and he was great about helping us sort through options for quartz/fixtures/flooring/enclosure within the budget that we were trying to hold to. Went to Teltos and hand picked the quartz slabs. The job was started when it was sited to, and also completed before the deadline we had. All the crews that came to our home (Victor, Gabriel, Brandon, are some names I remember, were all respectful and professional). Thank you for a job that met and exceeded our vision for our update. Hope to have you do work on our next bathroom remodel too! *I forgot to mention that we had a last minute plumbing add (which I am guessing impacted their schedule by 1/2 day) but they were very accommodating, without complaint and made it happen! read more

Not so great company and the employee Brandon is nasty and smoked the majority of the time and didn't get anything done... his clothing uniform just did not look professional. And his mouth is very inappropriate. Hope the owner gets rid of him. I have my own business and I sure as hell thought that this place was not worth the money.~Kathy Wagner. read more

We hired Mitch and MCA to do a long overdue refresh of a rental unit. Overall, we were very pleased with the work, the craftmanship, and attention to detail. Importantly, the team met an important completion deadline and we didn't have many unwelcome budget surprises. He and his team, in particular his project manager Kenny, were great at keeping us informed of the progress and addressed any issues right away. I would definitely use them again. Thank you Mitch. read more

MCA Remodeling did a fantastic job on remodeling my kitchen. I could not have asked for such a great remodel. James and Jeff did such a great job. They always asked how I wanted things before they preceded. All though I have two dogs they were able to work around them even though the dogs ate a lot of their stuff. Me my friends my neighbors are in uh and ahh with this kitchen it's a wow factor. Can't wait to cook for Christmas. James and Jeff are the two easiest people to get along with. They are funny and I will say that I will miss them now that the job is almost complete. I'm going to post pictures but not sure how. Ok just figured it out enjoy. read more

I'm very disappointed in this company. I originally spoke to them at a home show in San Jose and signed up for Mitch to come to my house to see what I wanted done, get measurements and send me a quote. It took a couple of weeks for them to get in touch with me to schedule a time for Mitch to come but finally did get a call and set up an appt for Nov 17th. Mitch came out, he measured everything, we talked about what I was looking for, he gave me some ideas and showed me some options in their catalog. All good and I was impressed with the interaction. A couple of weeks went by and nothing from MCA. I called Mitch on his cell, no answer, left a message and no return call. I waited another week, then called the office number. Spoke to someone and they said Mitch just got back from Hawaii and they would give him a message to get in touch with me. It is now Dec 7th and I have yet to receive anything from MCA - no email, no quote, no phone call. It would be nice to know if they decided my job wasn't big enough for them or there was some other reason they dropped my business. I find this to be quite unprofessional and I'd be leary of hiring them to do work in my house. read more

My wife and I hired Mitch and MCA Remodeling after meeting with quite a few different shops in the Valley to help us with a full house remodel on our 1940s Bay Area home. This was a pretty big job given no new construction: garage remodel, kitchen remodel, bathroom remodel, furnace replacement for hvac, exterior work, earthquake retrofit, doors replacement, trim, crown, etc. We had to live in a rental up the road for the length of the project so keeping to budget and timeliness was critical. Mitch helped us design most of the remodel, met us multiple times on weekends at tile and countertop stores, had reasonable pricing, managed our change-orders with ease, and most importantly, over the course of the 3.5 month project maintained exceptional customer service and communication. Our project was not run by Mitch initially or worked on by his in-house full time crew, which became a problem unfortunately. Tragically his lead James passed away just before our job and Mitch hired a former employee (and his crew) to cover as lead. That fellow was a terrible lead/manager. The crew had bad quality workmanship (especially given the price point of the remodel), and they basically just dropped the ball in so many ways. It was stressful and frustrating. We eventually told Mitch that they needed to be removed from the project completely. To his credit, Mitch honored that request and never got defensive about the situation. Once he brought in his in-house crew the project went much much smoother. Mitch even went the extra mile on our garage shelving and cabinets, which we appreciate a lot. The million dollar question is would we hire Mitch again? Yes we would. Anyone who has undertaken a project of this size on an old home knows that the job is going to be stressful at times, and sometimes the test of a relationship is when things go sour. Mitch was able to correct course, delivered on the project, and got us back into our home only 2 weeks over the initial timeline. We love the remodel too. The house looks and feels amazing. We definitely recommend him and his shop to you. read more

They come out to measure and said they would provide a quote but never heard back from them again. If they don't want the job or feel they can't handle it then have the decency to let the customer know. Don't waste people's time. In my opinion they don't even deserve one star. Very unprofessional and unreliable. Apparently others have had similar experience with this contractor. read more

I signed up with MCA initially to remodel my main floor. I was mid remodel of my primary bedroom & bathroom (ahead of that main floor project) and it didn't work out (working with family doesn't always work well!). I was in a bind and asked Mitch to take on the remodel of my bathroom, down to studs. He fit me in, I was relieved. I expanded the scope to include a closet system install, new floors in my room and all door, window and baseboard trim work. Not a problem for these guys. My main contractor was on time every day, respectful of my property and took great care in his work. The job was just completed and I'm very happy. read more

We hired MCA to completely remodel our bathroom pretty much from the studs up. Everything was gutted and built back up. I can say without a doubt we went with the right company. The owner was easy to get a hold of and communicate with. The team showed up to our home every morning on-time and worked in a clean, professional, friendly, and hard-working manner. I definitely recommend MCA Remodeling to anyone needing anything done to their home or business. read more

From the beginning of our project with Mitch (owner) meeting with us to review design, pick out cabinets and assist with coordinating tile, counter tops for the remodel of both of our bathrooms, to Rick (office manager) handling the order of specific items we selected (faucets, toilets, grab bars, shower hardware, teak shower seats, sinks, etc,), we have been pleased with our decision to work with MCA remodeling. We just had our final inspection today on both bathroom remodels and we are "good to go"! And both remodels are truly beautiful! After the initial demolition and installation of rough plumbing in our downstairs bathroom, James Palmonas has been the primary person working on our project. I cannot say enough good things about James. He corrected an error in the shower valve installation on his first day here. He is polite, courteous, funny, skilled, knowledgeable. He makes the project about what the customer wants, not about what is easiest. He is hard working and very easy (and fun) to work with. When questions arose regarding tile design/accent areas, placement of grab bars, shower seats and towel racks, etc. he had wonderful suggestions. This man does not "goof off"; he is constantly working. And he is accurate. He returned several items (medicine chests and mirror that were scratched) that arrived damaged that others might have used, but he had the items reordered. Mirrors, cabinets, niches, trim, etc are level (he actually uses a level). His attitude is "no problem, I can do that"! And he does....." If James did not already have a loving mother and family, I might adopt him! James is a wonderful representative of MCA and Mitch's desire to provide a quality, amazing remodel service to homeowners. read more

We hired MCA Remodeling to redo our bathroom. Mitch came by and was very pleasant to deal with and gave us a lot of options for the remodel. When it came time for the remodel the crew (which was headed by Jose) was very personable and friendly. They gave us information on everything they were doing any if any problems arose they would tell us immediately. There was a slight problem with our shower. When it came time to install the panels Jose noticed that one of them was deeply scratched. This was not due to Mitch's team but it happened at the manufacturer. A lot of contractors might have just put up the panel and hoped we didn't notice. But Jose told me right away and got clearance to order another panel. This delayed the remodel for about a week but I was very grateful that they did the job right instead of doing it the fastest. I would definitely have MCA do another remodeling project for us. read more

We were willing to pay top dollar for our master remodel, and we did. Boy was I surprised when I asked when the inspectors were coming and Mitch replied we're not getting any permits. This was not discussed nor agreed to by us. We put in skylights, a sauna shower, wall hung toilet and vanity, Why would he presume that we would not want the certainty that it was up to code? . read more

This company did a bathroom for us. They sent one of their employees named James Palmones, he is a real dedicated employee. His work was top notch, he showed no short cuts and always did the job the best to his ability. He spent many hours without goofing off or wasting his or our time. A real dedicated employee. My wife and I would have him working on any part of our house. His knowledge with all different aspects of construction was exceptional. If he found something that wasn't done correctly, he would not pass it on, he would fix the problem. We've never found an employee we felt so comfortable with. We would have this person do work in our house any time. read more

An overall 5-Star job was done on the complete gutting and remodel of our master bathroom by MCA. We had Antonio on the job by himself to start, and come to find out it was his first day, but boy did we feel lucky to have him assigned to our place after seeing his dedication, attention to detail, and pride that was evident in his work day in and day out. They added another guy BJ after a few days and this sped up daily progress even faster as one might expect. I tried to be home for as much of the remodel as possible to better have a handle on details, questions and snafus that may arise, so I got to see first hand the pace with which they took care of business and was always impressed. They worked very productively as a team and did all of the demo work, new wood construction, plumbing, electrical, tiling, painting and fixture installation themselves, always making great daily progress. The only bump in the road occurred when they had done all they could for their part of the job and then it was almost a 3 week wait for the shower glass and mirror sub-contractor to complete the job. I understand it takes time to custom fabricate these materials, but maybe in the future these guys can come take their measurements sooner to accommodate for that. Overall a job very well done by their in house employees though, thank you guys very much for all of your hard work! read more

This was the third time we've hired MCA. We have been very satisfied every time. Just finished updating our small master bathroom. Wow sooo beautiful. When the demo crew came was the start of a rocky situation. Some mistakes were done but James came in corrected and finished the job. James is very professional and so easy to work with. His attention to detail is amazing. Can't say enough good things about him. Mitch was also very helpful. He met us at the tile store to help us with design. We also went to his store to select our cabinets and fixtures. That was great. No running around and wasting our time. Would I recommend MCA absolutely. They will make you happy. I'm very happy. read more

MCA completed a master-bath remodel. Bottom line: I won't use them again and I do NOT recommend them. Pros: +Decent quality of work +Followed through on finishing the job Cons -Took weeks longer to finish the job than they promised because they didn't staff it with two workers (we asked explicitly about this when they bid). -Staffed the job with new, unknown people even though I explicitly told Mitch that I only wanted people he could trust in my house (he responded with, "all my guys have been with me for many years). Despite this conversation, he put a guy on our job that had been with him for only a few weeks. -Workers were messy and damaged carpet, the deck, my driveway, etc. -I agreed to a scope change, in writing, for $2900. Mitch later came back and said we owed him $12,000 for the change. They did some extra work, and I didn't want to be a jerk, so I eventually agreed to pay more than the $2900, but absolutely feel scammed. They never asked me if they could spend more than $2900...and I never signed anything. This speaks to MCA's lack of professionalism and potentially to dishonesty. I won't use MCA again, and recommend others avoid them. read more

Called to confirm my appt. Like they asked me to.. Guess what? I'm sorry we can't come. I have had the appt. For 2 weeks! Not very willing to work with you either. What a crock! Plus, I remember those guys from the home show, not very nice calling out things to the passers-by people. Just kinda rude. read more

I am very disappointed with the way MCA remodeling tries to confirm the appointment (1 hour before the appointment) and leaves a voicemail saying if I don't return to confirm, that they will not show up. I only noticed the missed call an voicemail at the time of the appointment and when I called back, they said they are on the other side of the bay in another meeting and unable to come and that the 'office' would have to reschedule. There was no apology as if it was my fault for not checking my phone and calling back to confirm. You may want to confirm your appointments a day in advance to allow ample time for people to call back. read more

We were delighted without exception with MCA's quality results remodeling our two bathrooms, a half bath, two showers, and our kitchen counter tops and backsplash. They helped us modernize -- replacing linoleum with tile, formica with granite, and updating our sinks and showers. In the process, they added recessed lighting and upgraded electrical needs to meet local construction codes. From the beginning, MCA offered excellent help while shopping with us to select materials for each room. They allowed space to express our likes and dislikes, while offering experienced suggestions when we were in doubt. Prudently, MCA was sure to order and receive all materials before beginning work. MCA seems quite discerning in selecting their crafts people and associates, like painters, granite finishers, and shower door builders. We found their team of workers to be honest, friendly, highly-skilled, and hard-working. We learned and respected -- as we had heard widely -- that construction and remodelling has inevitable timing delays and surprise technical puzzles to solve. Also MCA had days when other jobs and needs delayed our progress. So at our home, there were days when nothing happened, and balancing moments when one, two, or more craftsmen were on the job. Money-wise, the MCA cost estimate was 30% less than the highest competitor. They were totally true to their financial contract, even when unexpected, added modifications were needed. Were we to identify MCA's growing edge, it would be improved communication and more focus on continuity to begin and finish in a slightly more timely manner. We know that is easier for us to ask than it is to fulfill in the challenging world of remodeling and staffing. It really does take a village to coordinate and complete all of the various requirements -- material choices, teamwork, electrical, plumbing, tiling, and much more. There are inconveniences, surprises, and a need for patience. In the end was it all worth it, and would we highly recommend MCA? We surely would, YES. read more

MCA Remodeling recently completed two large jobs on my house. One was to tear down and replace a sunroom, and the other was to replace a balcony and a porch railing. We are very happy with the results. Mitch Alves and MCA are great to work with. We are very pleased with the work. The quality of the work was excellent, the cost reasonable (and competitive with others), and the projects were completed expeditiously. The sunroom job took a bit longer than originally planned, but for good reason, so no complaints there. Mitch and his crew were always responsive to our requests and kept us informed. I highly recommend MCA without reservations. I've dealt with many contractors in the past, and Mitch and MCA are by far the best and most trustworthy I've met. read more

DO NOT WORK WITH THEM! I met Mitch at a home and garden show and his company called me to schedule a free estimate. After many times of scheduling with his wife Leslie, he calls me a few hours before the appointment and was rude to me. I guess it was supposed to rain and he rudely tells me if I knew it was going to rain and why I set up an appointment for 6:30pm. First of all, if this was such an issue, his wife should have told me not to set it up at this time instead of me wasting time on the phone and getting rude treatment for no reason. The owner is unprofessional. And he kept texting me about the rain. Unbelievable. Again, don't work with this company and don't expect professionalism. If it's already like this at the beginning, I can only imagine how it would be working with them. Stay away!!! read more

MCA remodeled my 2 bathrooms this last year and we are very pleased with the results. These were major remodeling projects. In one bathroom, all the plumbing was relocated to different locations to make room for both a whirlpool bath and a separate walk-in shower, plus a new dual sink vanity. The other bath room had a sunken shower that had to be raised up to floor level to meet local codes. The work took longer than anticipated but since Brian P. did such excellent work on them, I was OK with the extra time it took. read more

All I can say is I would not depend on these guys for any job in your home. Met them at a home show. Gave them our info. They called US several times. We wanted a quote for our kitchen. JUST a simple quote. I'm off on Mondays so scheduled for them to come out on Monday for this reason. My husband works from home. I find him on the phone 30 MINUTES before this company is due to be at our home in HALF MOON BAY, rescheduling. Already, I'm not happy. My husband hangs up. Come to find out HE called THEM to confirm and he is told they had an "emergency". So we were basically going to be flaked on, had he not called THEM and found this information out. I told my husband to get back on the phone and cancel. We are going to reach out to other companies. After they called us to get us to work with them, they can't manage to get out for JUST THE QUOTE! And they couldn't be bothered to call us to let us know they couldn't make it. If this is how they make their first impression, I sure as hell am not about to let them tear up my kitchen for weeks! They clearly have no respect for your time so I certainly wouldn't expect them to have any respect for your home and the fact that you are paying a lot of money for them to do the job. Clearly, by the few reviews they DO have, this is common with them. Onto another company we go! read more
