Dr. Pham does a thorough exam and explains possible reasons and solution. Scheduling is easy and usually don't wait for long. I would recommended this place anyone since the prices are reasonable, less than $50 for an eye exam. Worst place ever. Do not go here. If you are looking just to get eyeglasses and you happen to bring in your eye prescription from another doctor, he will in fact take that prescription and keep it as a way for you not to go anywhere else to buy eyewear. He likes to make condescending comments and thinks he is a know it all just to build his made up ego. All he wants to do is mark up the prices for the glasses and charge even more for the lenses. He will prescribe you a heavier prescription than you really need which will make your eyes hurt and give you headaches. Though its name gives the impression that it's staffed by headset wearers and dispatchers, you will be shocked by how real they keep it at MC Eye. Situated in a forgotten and somewhat desolate corner of Midtown, MC Eye has retained what appears to be its original storefront; its peeling-red-painted letters a testament to its wholesome, non-mega-eye-mart-ness. It's hard to imagine that a shop like this can still compete in these days of daily EyeMaster/LensCrafter mailers, but Dr. Pham (owner/optometrist) is extremely generous in his exam pricing policy, not to mention a kind and interesting soul. (In under 30 minutes of interaction, he executed a thorough eye exam, while educating me on the deep roots of sadness underlying the poetry characteristic of his culture.) Sans vision insurance, I was sure I'd have to fork over multiple hundreds of dollars that I don't have, but the sum total of my visit (exam + new frames) was less than 1/3rd of what I've paid at every other office I've been to. I try to support small businesses in my area. Sometimes this works for me, sometimes it doesn't. This time, it worked! I really, really love this place. The staff was so friendly. I didn't realize my vision insurance needed to fax my benefits over in advance of my 4:00 appointment. "No problem," the young lady said. I could just call my insurance and ask them to fax it right then. My insurance said they would. We waited a bit, but no fax came through. Dr. Pham said he'd go ahead and see me. The exam isn't fancy - don't look for the newest equipment here. But he is thorough, and he knows what he's doing. Plus, he's pretty funny. After the exam, my insurance fax still hadn't come through, so I paid the full exam price. It was $60! Great service, friendly people, and reasonable prices. They do accept walk in's and it cost just 35 bucks for an eye exam . Yes ,thats right fellow yelpers , i said thirty five dollars !!!! That is an awesome price for great service . Dr. Nghiem has been my eye doctor since I was a kid. He does the BEST eye exams. His experience allows him to detect what other eye doctors can't. He noticed right away how dry my eyes are and prescribed the correct type of contacts to help reduce the dryness. Also, instead of prescribing medicine to treat my dry eyes temporarily, he goes a step further and will recommend a few healthy lifestyle tips that will help change you from the inside out and address the root of the problems. I went to an optometrist (located on elgin) earlier this month but after the eye exam he gave me prescription that I could not tolerate... (not to mention his personnel forgot to measure my focal point before making the lenses)...Anyways, after 2 weeks of not tolerating my glasses, I needed help and decided to go visit Dr. Pham (on recommendation of Smith Opticians). Dr. Phan did some extra tests on me, that the initial optometrist missed (retinal reflections) and he explained why I was unable to tolerate the initial prescription... I've been seeing Dr. Pham for about 25 years now. I have strong near-sightedness, such that most eyeglass frames would be horrible. Dr. Pham always helps me to choose and I must say they are the BEST eyeglasses I have ever used. I stopped using contact lenses years ago, can't do bifocals without the line across them and would have lenses like the soda bottle bottom. A titanium frame and the lens tapers out at the edges and they are the lightest and most comfortable glasses ever. He made me a pair just for computer use from old glasses frame as well and that is awesome. Saw a review on the decor. He must be Buddhist is all I can say. I hadn't updated my glasses' prescription in about 5 years and found myself squinting a lot and getting headaches, so i thought it was time to get an updated set of lenses, and decided to try Dr. Pham because he is inexpensive. The office smells like something gross and unidentifiable Even though I made an appointment, I still waited nearly an hour to be seen. I really just wanted my prescription checked but they insisted on dilating my eyes prior to the exam. I explained to the girl giving me the drops that I was concerned that they would distort my vision, resulting in an inaccurate rx. She assured me not to worry and that the room would be dark enough that the drops would not cause a problem. The exam was incredibly rushed, and I was never able to see any of the letters clearly, although I was technically able to read the chart. Dr Pham concluded the exam and wrote a prescription, even though I explained that I was never able to see the letters clearly. He explained that the letters remained out of focus because of the my eyes being dilated. Great. When I had my prescription checked against my now 5 year old prescription of my glasses, he had actually made my prescription weaker. I'm glad I didn't get new lenses without checking first, because now I'd be walking around seeing even less clearly than before and getting even more headaches than I already am. On top of that, in Dr. Pham's poor attempt at making small talk, he asked me if I had eaten at the new Twin Peaks restaurant near my office.... Now I know twin peaks isn't a strip club or anything, but I thought it was a little creepy that of all the restaurants he would ask me about, it would be one where hot chicks serve burgers wearing next to nothing. Of course he's asking me this while right in front of my face in a dark room... Creepy. Anyways, It was a bad idea to try and save money on something as important as my vision. I called to refill my prescription and when I got there they had me waiting for over an hour because they LOST MY PRESCRIPTION. After wasting my time waiting, they finally found it in the TRASH CAN!! Do not go here! I got an eye exam - it is incorrect. I have now spent $250 on exam and lenses for the wrong prescription. The doctor never asked me to compare which lens was better - he arrogantly stood back and told me this was my prescription without ever asking if I could see more clearly or not. Very good price, very good service. Not super fast, but the Dr was very thorough. He advised me about a condition I was developing that my previous optometrist had not (and SHOULD have!). And it wasn't so he could give me some expensive treatment. The solution was to wear contacts less and use OTC eye drops - a simple solution for a very serious problem. Very pleased. I scheduled for an eye exam and in the beginning, he wanted to put eye drops in my eyes. I refused because I don't I was told don't put anything to my eyes until you know what it is by a real doctor. Then the Vietnamese "Doctor" starts to threaten me he can refuse his services. I was like, what the hell is that, am I begging your services? But I said nothing and ask him politely to continue. Then he started to ask me general questions about my disease history, but I don't understand some of the medical words so I ask him to explain. He became impatient instantly and tell me just to answer yes or no, then I told him I can't answer questions that I don't understand. I went here Feb. of this year to get my eye exam I was pleased with the service and the stuff until today. Yesterday I went to get my eyes exam by another Dr because when I wore my glasses it was still a lil hard to see. I was informed that my prescription for my glasses were incorrect. My right eye prescription was for my left eye and vise versa. So I called MC Eye Center and they told me to bring my glasses up there so I did. I get up there and tell them what happen. They told me I need to take my glasses where I got them from because they put them in wrong that's not the prescription they gave me. Have been going there for five years. The lady that works in the front is super rude. She has no respect and treats customers awful. She has been working there for years and is family with the Dr. She has no education and does not know how to treat customers. When they had somebody else working with her, she started yelling at the other girl in front of other people. Try to call before and ask questions, she will be extremely rude to you and by that I mean she wont even have common courtesy to say bye bye. Does job bad as well, she has given me the wrong prescription and does not apologizes. She thinks she is the owner or the Doctor. Talks in Vietnamese about people, so people wont understand.
