They put the car up on the rack, quickly diagnosed the issue, and instead of recommending replacing the original Ford part, they suggested a simple fix that saved me a few hundred dollars. What I appreciated most was the honesty. They easily could have pushed a bigger repair, but they didn't. The whole visit took about 30 minutes and I was back on the road. read more

When Clavey Auto / Glenview retired and sold the business, it was traumatic because they were taking great care of our cars for many years. I scrambled to find another mechanic that could handle my very complex 2008 Acura. I'm a professional musician who puts about 1000 miles a month on my car for teaching, accompanying and performing. No car= no work. Last fall my worst night are occurred when my ancient car experience Des massive systems failures. How lucky I was to find Scotty and his crew in Des Plaines quite by accident ( driving south on Wolf Rd. on my way to my teaching job at Prairie Lakes Center). I pulled in and immediately felt like I was I the right place. For a very fair price they got my old car up and running. They were very flexible about me dropping car off at night and having it ready the next day in time for to get to my work in the even. The response is filled with misinformation. I researched the shop and Scot sold years ago. Next, Scot recently retired from GreatWater Garages. The shop down the road did not charge multiple diagnostic fees because my concerns were located within the front suspension. I had the strangest experience in my 67 years. I stopped by MB Auto today a neighbor referred me to them. I asked the young man behind the counter if I could get a quote on a repair on my vehicle. It was a straight forward repair for replacing a brake booster. The man behind the counter said "we don't do quotes". I'd have to make an appointment have them look at the car and then they will give me a price. He then said that the reason that they don't give quotes is if people find out that another shop is charging less the person would go there and not use MB Auto. That's the most idiotic way I've ever heard of anyone doing business. I'm not going to give them a blank check for car repairs. Buyers beware! read more

We had just went thru a bad experience with a mechanic that was not truthful in Des Plaines. I contacted a local body shop that we trusted and asked for their recommendation. They recommended MB Automotive. I called and spoke to Scotty, he was friendly and professional and was able to take us in right away. I live in Las Vegas now, but I wanted to give a shout out review for MB Auto Repair Shop! They have taken care of my family's cars for decades. It's like having NASA work on your car. Every few years when I drive to Chicagoland to visit, I have a list of restaurants to visit, righ after I take my car to MB Auto for a checkup. Lorrie who runs the front desk is extremely knowledgable as well as Master Mechanic Scott who won awards for best Mechanic in the country&his other incredible mechanics! You will never find a better place to get your car serviced! They're extremely honest as well. They'll tell you when your car doesn't need something if it doesn't, unlike so many other places that will make things up to charge you more. I also take my car to them before I get back on the road to drive home to Vegas. MB Auto is like part of our family. Whenever any of us has ever had a problem with a vehicle, we just drop it off, then Scott&his crew take care of whatever needs to be fixed. Brought a car to M B at the request of my neighbor who was interested in purchasing a car from me for a used car inspection. The inspection was highly exaggerated and some parts were flat out lies. Just a couple of examples, one being "windshield washer doesn't work"... I asked Ed if it was possible that the washer fluid was empty, he stated "the mechanic would've checked that before writing that down"... sure enough I get home, put fluid in and it works just fine... makes me wonder what else they didn't check. read more

Scot, Lorrie and Ed are great. We have four different cars we take to them. My dad used to build cars so he can tell who is legit and who isn't. I took an auto class as well but most auto places try to take advantage of me being a young unmarried woman even though I have a decent base knowledge of cars. They have a solid amount of business but can usually take us same day if it isn't a large job. If they do need to keep the car Lorrie has dropped me off at home since I don't live too far. It's hard to find people in the automotive industry you can trust, but we do trust MB. Recently I got in an accident and had to take my car to a body shop near the accident the insurance approved. $7,000 plus and the car isn't much better off than when I dropped it off. I figured something was off with the steering and it was making a weird grinding noise, Scot took it around for a complimentary test drive and confirmed that and more. He wrote up a report of the issues that I can give to the insurance company. Helped me out a lot! read more

I'm not sure what Yelp is doing here, but I don't agree with it. I've had great experience in working with Scot and his team. My dad and grandparents have been going to MB for years. They're a small garage and don't run it like a chain with lots of focus on smiley customer service... but they shoot straight and don't tell you you need to replace everything on your car like most other garages. I recently hit a curb pretty hard after sliding out of turn in a bad snowfall. I went to a garage some co-workers recommended as well as the one at my dealership and both gave me laundry lists of things I needed to fix on my car (with pretty hefty price-tags). Then I went to MB, and (A) they checked out a few things on the list and said they didn't actually need to be done yet (i.e. transmission fluid should be changed by 50K miles, but they checked mine and said its clean and won't need to be changed for another 20-30K), and (B) they beat the price of parts and labor for both other places I went. They even cut me a deal on labor because they had to access the same part of my car for 2 services. Honestly, my only complaint is that they don't have Saturday hours so I had to drop my car off and get a ride to and from work for a day. But they got a lot more done for a lot less than other places were asking. They've earned my trust and my business! read more

My family and I have been taking our cars to M & B for many years. They have good mechanics and seem to work as a team. One time they fixed a fuel injector on our car and 3 months later it had the same problem. We brought the car back in, they tested it and replaced the part again at no-charge. These guys have been taking care of our family's cars for over a decade. We always own our cars for 10+ years! Scot, the lead mechanic takes the time to listen to what's going on with your car, will give you an honest opinion, give you the cost estimates ahead of time and will even give you their opinion of what's most necessary to do first so you can plan a budget. The only service we've gotten here is by appointment, because that's how things work when you want quality service, so I'm not sure why the previous reviewer had such a negative reaction. Yes, they can get parts for you, but this isn't an Auto Parts store, these are award-winning experts who have gone through extensive training and will diagnose your car properly. Also, as a female, I have never felt stupid going here and feel comfortable asking for an explanation. The dealer could not fix my GM car after three (3) separate times. I went to MB on referral and the owner said it was an oddball problem that would take some time to figure it out. To save me a huge expense in time/labor costs he asked if I would leave the car for about five days so he could work on it in between lulls. On the fourth day he called with the problem FIXED. The cost was so reasonable I tipped him, the first time ever in my life. Think about it, I didn't have to keep making appointments as with GM, they were guessing and experimenting at my cost plus wasting my time. MB saw it was gonna take some diagnostic time and he told me so from the start. He saved me money, time and aggravation. And yes the car was fixed and have never had the problem again. I went in with a problem in may and they stated their was nothing wrong with the breaks. its now nov and the car sounds like an airplane is landing on the runway without wheels. The receptionist is very unpleasent and trying to get honest work from them is hard. they wont own up to their screw ups. they want to keep telling you one thing is wrong after another.I had to explain my problem before I took the car in, when the I took the car in and then finally they called me that afternoon wanting to know what the problem was. read more
