Excellent food and service! The salsa is authentic. A waitress was coming around our table every 10 min with chips. Ordered spinach enchiladas just because and it was so good. Yes there is a vegetarian selection. Large choice of foods. American and Latin. Everything about our visit was on point as a restaurant can be! Impressed read more

This restaurant is large, airy, and comfortable, with good service, and is excellent in every respect except the food. Everything tasted like it came from cans, even the tamales. The salsa for the chips seems to be straight Chef Boyardee tomato sauce, with nary a pepper or garlic. The only items that tasted as if they were freshly prepared were a chili relleno and the lettuce and tomato garnish (undressed). The burrito, enchilada, and tamales we had were terrible, almost tasteless. As visitors to Redding from the Bay area, which is not noted for its outstanding Mexican food, we were shocked by the low quality. Surely the people of Redding deserve better, even in what must be a some sort of national chain for people who like the idea but not the taste of Mexican food. read more

We ate there last night - had the seafood chimichanga and shrimp enchiladas. Both were excellent - good fresh seafood flavor, just delicious. They were short-staffed, so they were slammed, but the staff was friendly and did a great job, all while on the run (thank you Petra). We highly recommend this place; I know we will return. read more

Service was great, the food horrible. Tasted like it was all from a can..... The salsa tasted like it was tomato sauce. The guacamole puke green, like it was made yesterday. I had the chimichanga - the carne asada in it was rubbery and looked like dog food. Chimichanga is supposed to be filled with shredded meat. It wasn't even crunchy, texture was like a burrito, rather than deep fried like it should be. The beans tasteless. My girlfriend had the tostada salad and it was 90% shredded lettuce, with little meat and nothing other than a scoop of tomatos - no cheese, no avocado, no. But, the drinks and service were good. This place needs to learn how to prepare food using fresh ingredients and make mexican food from scratch. read more

Went here a few times before writing this review. I found the food to be very inconsistent. One day the same entree would be a different color and taste than the next. Out of three visits, two people had two semi-decent entrees. I noticed right away that there are far too many items on the menu. There are also false claims. My entree with steak tips was just skirt steak for example. So here's the bad news: The enchiladas were so terrible and sloppy that it was shocking. Also, the meat in the Beef Colorado was very dry and the sauce didn't taste good at all. When I ate the Beef Ranchero dish, I can see the potential...but these dishes are EXTREMELY greasy and inconsistent. One day the beef was brown on the outside, another day it was tougher and not browned. I had a house special dish in which I could only eat half of the pork because the rest of it was hard as a rock and tasted of old grease. I wouldn't go here unless they get a new cook and revise their menu to concentrate on the few good recipes they have. A shame really because this is one of the first Mexican restaurants in Redding to actually have any dishes with flavor...even if it is all in a watery inedible greasy mess at the bottom of your plate. read more

Great restaurant. The service was excellent. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The drinks were awesome (big, strong, and reasonably priced). The food was very much like Guadalajara on Cypress Avenue so I asked the waiter if the restaurant was owned by the same people. Yep. same owners. The food is always fresh and consistent, but if ordering a tostada or taco salad plate, make sure you get the sour cream and guacamole, otherwise, by itself, it's a little bland. The chips and salsa were fresh and plentiful. The pollo asada tasted a little sweet like teriyaki sauce, but I like it compared to the shredded as it has a little more flavor. I'll be back, it's clean and consistent. read more

Store bought hard taco shells?! Canned salsa, store bought chips. Cold carne asada. Having said that the staff was friendly and the place was clean. read more

Extraordinary service and amazing food! My boyfriend and I were visiting Redding and ate here as recommended by a local. We were given a complimentary bean and cilantro dip in addition to the standard chips and salsa that was very delicious. Our server was very honest and polite. When we asked her if the portion size of the fajitas was large enough for my boyfriend and I to split, she did not try to up-sale us or try to hike-up our tab. She was honest by letting us know the fajita portion was absolutely large enough to split between two people and told us that people split the fajitas all the time. We ordered the chicken and steak fajitas and could not even eat it all.... And we can eat our fair share! Although we were stuffed, the food and service was so excellent that we could not pass up looking at the dessert menu. We ended up sharing the sweet tamale that was topped with whipped cream and strawberry sauce. It was to die for! We were so impressed with the service and food, we tipped our server 40%, which wasn't that much considering the low cost of our tab. We definitely recommend Mazatlan Grill to anyone wanting an exceptional dining experience for a low cost. read more

This is the best Mexican food in redding. Fresh ingredients, served hot and quickly, seems to always be spot on and creative.... The service is great and collaborative. It's spotless. If it was in a trendier building, the line would be continually out the door... read more

Had an early dinner here tonight and the rice and beans were better than I remember, so delicious! Tried the Pollo Azado and Chile Verde this time, both were wonderful, and full of flavor. Service was great (as usual), very attentive, warm and friendly. Love the ambiance as well! My husband and I visit this restaurant often and have never left disappointed or hungry. We've also tried, loved, and would highly recommend the Camarones con Tocino, and the Chile Colorado. I'm surprised this place doesn't get more packed during happy hour, they've got great drink specials, delicious munchies, and a patio! What goes better with sunshine than margaritas and cold cervezas? read more

Honestly I had higher expectation, I love authentic Mexican cuisine, but this just didn't cut it at all. My wife, who's pregnant couldn't enjoy her meal at all...Not impressed definitely won't go back....sorry! read more

Great food and service. Nice and lively decor. We were served with really delicious chef's special beans and cactus along with complimentary chips and salsa. Cactus? It was awesome - goes to show that the chef is extremely talented and imaginative with his concoction. Portions are quite big. read more

We stopped at this restaurant while traveling. The food was good and plentiful. Our server was in training and did good. The couple of very small errors were immediately corrected by the friendly manager that was following her around. And the manager came back later to check up on us and the server, and to ask how she did. read more

Extremely friendly and good service. Great table side guacamole. The drinks are big and delicious. Give this place a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

3rd visit here today, we were the first customers and I can't describe how good this food was. It is always good, but my taste buds were dancing and singing songs on how good the food was. I had enchiladas beans and rice and the sauce is killer and the beans were some of the best I had. With the sauce being as great as it was how can you not like the enchiladas. Great way to start the day. :) read more

This is the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at. The salsa tastes like tomato paste with diced vegetables and most of the food there is disgusting and a disgrace toward Mexican food. The carnitas were extremely nasty and all the food is very expensive for its crappy quality. On top of it I had a terrible stomach ache for the whole day. read more

Ever since this restaurant opened my husband and I have enjoyed Great food, Reasonable prices and Excellent service. A large group of us from our club went there on a Saturday night and even with people showing up at different times the service was Fantastic. read more

I was here the other day for a relaxing night out with my girlfriend. We ordered our food, and everything was nice until we heard what sounded like the boss or owner being really rude to one of his workers. The staff is usually so nice here, that we love to come here. But if this is the way the employees are treated here, we will never come back again. From the context of the situation, it didn't even sound like that big of a deal that required a public harassing by the boss. When I go out to eat, I like to relax, not over hear a situation that ruins my night. read more

They had good service, good drinks (I had a margarita), and good food dishes. I ordered one of the combo plates and I was impressed by the quality of food and the amount of meat in the enchilada and tacos. I would go back! read more

What a great place... Amazing service & good food- super kid friendly & yummy margaritas!

Very clean. Super professional staff who deliver great service. I believe my server's name was Petra. She was attentive and friendly. I ordered the pork carnitas fajitas and the portion was huge! I was hoping to have leftovers as I was staying at a hotel close by and didnt want to have to go out again for dinner. It came on a sizzling fajita plate, and a huge dinner plate with my rice, beans, Pico, guacamole, and even extra cheese. I barely made a dent in it! The chips and salsa were very good as well. I had come in alone and I used up the whole first portion of salsa and asked to take some back to the hotel with my leftovers. My server picked up on the fact that I wouldnt have access to silverware and offered up some plasticware. Thanks for being so intuitive! I was a bit surprised at the price of my ticket, but im getting at least two meals out of it and my service was so great that it didnt bother me much. read more

This was my second visit. First visit was lunch with a friend which I enjoyed the taquitos so much I wanted to take my husband for dinner. Unfortunately our tacos could only be described as "wet & sloppy"! Maybe it was our fault to request them "Baja style". I ordered #11-2 chicken tacos on a soft corn tortillas & in lieu of rice & beans I ordered a side garden salad (trying to watch those carbs! My husband wanted pork chile verde for his tacos and followed my lead wanting them Baja style. When our plates arrived we were anticipating some great tastes, then we tried to pick up our tacos and them promptly disintegrated in our hands due to the moisture in the chicken & pork! They tasted like they kept the meats sitting in water to keep them moist which would explain why our soft corn tortillas fell to pieces on our plates. Basically we ended up with a pile of mushy tortillas, pork, chicken, lettuce, & tomatoes which we had to eat with a fork! We also ordered a 2 top shelf margaritas which tasted more like margarita mix..we ordered 2 shots of Patron in order to taste the tequila! We will probably try it a 3rd time but will not venture into the "Baja style" again! Great atmosphere, good service, mediocre pork & chicken, tortillas nonexistent! read more

We have tried several Mexican restaurants in the area and by far Mazatlan Grill is among the best. All the waitresses were amazing. The food and the portions were wonderful. We recommend this restaurant to out of towners all the time. read more

We often go here with a large group and it seems the food has gone down hill. If you have anything with fish including the soups, it is not fresh. Now onward to the drinks! They used to pour a very good drink, but now use the old shot glass trick that sometimes it all doesn't make it to your glass! We are considering a new venue. read more

Extremely slow service, waiter kept saying the food will be right out for about an hour. Chips tasted stale and when we finally got the food it was mediocre and pretty bland. Absolutely no seasoning in the jalapeno poppers and no trace of heat. Comped us a round of drinks for the wait which raised it up to two stars from one. read more

August 16, 2015, Husband and I ate here between 4:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. and both had the same dish. Two enchaladas, rice and beans. Both of us got food poisoning and was so sick and sore still today Tuesday. For me it started at 1:00 in the morning and up all night sicker then a dog. Needless to say, I will not ever eat at this place again and it will be a long time before I will be able or even think about eating Mexican food. read more

I'd loved to have given it a 5 star, but, my server was not up to par. I came in with a party of 4 around 7ish pm. We were seated promptly and waiter came up asking if we wanted drinks. We did order that right away. Had the blackberry margarita which was very refreshing. We recently moved here from Napa and this place FAR surpasses our Mexican eateries there. The waiter brought our drinks, we ordered, received our food which was HOT which didn't happen in Napa, usually luke warm. But, the waiter never came back to see if we needed anything, never checked if we wanted another cocktail or anything else.. We had to flag him down and he was just across from us at the register. He was more interested in talking to the waitresses instead of caring for his tables. I'll go back, it was very good food, but, will speak up if we are ignored again. Hopefully, the owner will re-install proper server techniques. read more
