I had a quick lunch at Puerto Vallarta restaurant yesterday on my way to go shopping. The meat in the (chicken) enchalada looked like it was some kind of slurry, the chips were overcooked, and the salsa was warm as if left unrefrigerated. I was in a hurry so I just ate and left. Upon reaching my shopping destination I began having pain and cramping in my stomach, after which symptoms of severe food poisoning ensued. Be Aware that the vegetarian burrito is not vegetarian. It says it comes with beans, rice, cheese and so on but when I questioned the beans and rice I was told the beans contained lard and the rice was cooked in chicken stock. That's definitely not vegetarian. I'm a lacto vegetarian I eat cheese so that wasn't a problem. I ended up ordering the burrito but with whole beans and no rice. That is misrepresentation of a meal and should be addressed!!!! read more

This has become our new "go to" Mexican restaurant. We've tried a variety of things that have all been good, but last nights were our favorite. I had the chicken tortilla soup, which was not only delicious but gigantic! My husband ordered the Carnitas plate which we easily could have shared. The only reason I'm giving them a 4 out of 5 is the margarita. I always order the "ultimate" and it's different every single time. Different colors, different flavor and different price! Waited extended time after being seated to place our order. Food was bland. Tortillas never came. Drinks and water was not refilled. Didn't check in to see how we were doing. Did I mention the food was bland? We ordered the lunch Chile verde expresso burrito which was huge chunks of fatty pork with a dollop of brown guacamole on the side. This place has been around forever and while more than one person has told me they love it I've never been in until today. Largely because of my affinity for street taco al pastor I usually go to taquerias and avoid sit down Mexican restaurants like this because they don't typically offer that sort of cuisine but the planets aligned and here at last I find myself. I have borderline PTSD from a heinous offering of molé at a Mexican restaurant one time in Sacramento but I know when it's done right it can be great. So I took a chance and I have to say Puerto Vallarta has the best molé I've ever had. What a relief! This time our take-out order when we got there was given away to a door dasher I had to sit for a little bit but was in dismay win the server came and gave me the original DoorDash order that was left mistakenly and two sets of super nachos. We went out to dinner on my daughter's birthday, and had an absolutely amazing time! The service was great, the food was everything that we had imagined it would be and we just had a blast! The entire staff felt like a family, they were all having fun and it really showed. I ordered enchiladas, my wife ordered sope and my daughter ordered a children's quesadilla. All the dishes were A+ It was my daughter's birthday and they made her feel very special. They brought out a delicious dessert, sang her a song and gave her an honorary birthday sombrero. Came here to grab a quick bite to eat after a week backpacking in the Trinity alps. Good lord. The staff was super nice. A vegetarian burrito was listed on the menu as coming with guacamole. I did not get guacamole. I got a tortilla filled with beans, rice, lettuce, and some what tasted like ketchupy sauce on top. For $10. It was extremely bland and not very hot. At the time I was starving and so I ate it without thinking. Now I see all the reviews on food borne illness and I'm worried. Never again. I just hope I don't get sick. read more

Went on Cinco de Mayo for my first visit. The person taking care of us, Briana, was great. Even though it was busy, she still took time to search the guide to put on the Cavs game for us and helped us pick something off the menu. The margaritas were good. I can't remember the name but I had a burrito with seafood and chicken, it was great. The chips were standard but served with salsa and beans. There were a lot of other people checking on us so the service was just all around great. It was smothered in way too much red sauce which was like eating pasta sauce which is clearly from a can, the guac on top was prepackaged similar time the kind they serve at Taco Bell. I should come clean up front: it had been three and a half days since my last hot meal, and I'd been out in the Trinity Alps Wilderness on some of the coldest nights of the year so far. So really, anything hot and moderately tasty would have seemed like the world's best meal EVER. But even without that filter, it was pretty damn good. First of all, the menu is gigantic, and if you can't find something you can eat here, then you are truly the pickiest eater in the universe. Vegetarians, vegans, seafood lovers, carnivores... there really is something for everyone. Immediately upon sitting down, we were served a giant basket of chips and bowls of salsa and refried beans. The beans were a really nice touch - I probably would have thought they were overkill on any other night, but refer again please to the statement about not eating hot food for three days... I ordered the veggie burrito (hot, smothered in goodness, and stuffed with yumminess) and my brother got beef fajitas. He said the beef was great - but the bell peppers and onions were INCREDIBLE. In fact, all bell peppers and onions in the world grow up just praying they can be prepared in such a juicy and delicious way. If we find ourselves in Redding ever again, I'm ordering a giant bowl of those veggies and nothing else. We consumed our food in a record 8 minutes. Despite the fact that we smelled terribly and were covered in dirt, no one said a single negative thing to us. Definitely the service is the best of any local Mexican restaurant around. Perhaps best even among restaurants in Redding in general. The servers are well groomed and tidily dressed in white shirts and black ties. Very attentive, friendly, and quick. Excellent. Food is good, large portions, but nothing special or creative otherwise. We went for lunch and prices are very reasonable. 6.99 Enchilada lunch special. They served up a nice little desert at the end plus a shot of tequila, banged on the table to make it fizz, a great ending to a very good experience. read more

I'm going to be as polite about this as possible because the servers were nice. Nice, but a little too lax when it came to taking our order and getting it right. First, it took 18 minutes after being seated to even get water, another 12 minutes to take our order. The food came out pretty fast after that, however, all plates had sour cream, we asked for absolutely no sour cream on anything. We asked for lite chicken in the quesadillias, they were primarily chicken, with very little cheese. My taquitos were burnt and doused in a thick, brown sauce of some awful tasting sort. The chicken burrito was supposed to be dry and grilled chicken, it was drenched in enchilada sauce and filled with shredded chicken. The bathroom... I wish I would have checked the bathroom before we ordered. My grandfather had a rule of never eating in a restaurant that had a bathroom not up to par with his standards of cleanliness. The toilet seat was broken and covered in urine and fecal matter. There was no toilet seat covers. Lots of toilet paper stuck to the floor surrounding the toilet. And the only soap for washing hands was under the soap dispenser on the ground. I give this place two stars, 1 because the staff was kind. 2 because the restaurant design and decor was appealing, and I believe with a few minor adjustments this place could be a great business. read more
