Visiting Redding today!! Work = a no show and time to myself. This place - Granted I came mid week before a lunch rush - but super fast friendly service. The place is fun with good temperature and amazing smells. Only a four since their menu was a little misleading - what brought me here was what looked like a vegetarian tamale as it says nothing about meat - but alas. So my next fave is the chili rellano and this one did not disappoint. It was cheesy with good cheese and the sauce was a surprise - a cheese sauce that proved to be spicy in all the right ways. My wife and I stopped in for lunch on a Friday. We were greeted and escorted to a table. Chips, bean dip and sauce were brought to our table. We ordered drinks which were excellent. Got a 4 because they have good food. The ambiance was nice typical Mexican restaurant. My burrito was gigantic so was my husband's. They asked what drinks we would like but didn't give us a drink menu. We had to ask for one. We were asked several times if we wanted more chips and salsa and beans. But didn't get checked in after food arrived and took a long time to get the check they were very slow, so it wasn't other guests keeping them busy. Be prepared for not the greatest service. read more

Came to town to visit family, and it had been a while since I had been here, so ended up coming for lunch. They are still as good as I remember from about eight years ago. We got chips and salsa and bean dip. which was excellent the salsa is a bit spicy but the perfect amount. I ended up getting Pork Carnitas, Al Pastor, and Carne Asada tacos. A truly unique location, nestled along Eureka Way just before you leave Redding. From outside it doesn't draw very much attention aside from the Adobe style building and large side with its name. Not a whole lot to go on. However, once you enter you are warmly greeted by kind staff along with aromatics of traditional Mexican cuisine. There aren't a lot of places that I would feel comfortable trying traditional Mexican foods, as they tend to be "Tex-Mex" or Commercialized and either flavorless or from a can. The food here however, is prepared lovingly and with ample flavor. Whether it came from a can or not my extremely picky palate couldn't tell. I had a platter of tacos one of each type of meat as I often order so that I can sample multiple tastes. Each one was exquisite. The salsa was fantastic and tasted fresh which always means a lot to me. Now on to the ratings. The food was fantastic. The service was good, I did have one complaint and it is nitpicky, as I was in the middle of my order because I had ordered a quesadilla appetizer and I wanted to sample the tacos, the waitress did not wait she actually took the menu from my hand when it was not offered. Luckily my partner who was with me at the time also likes to order multiple flavors and allowed me to sample from thier plate. The rest of the staff we're incredibly warm and welcoming and very attentive. The atmosphere was wonderful, a lot of South of the border tones and themes, the restaurant isn't huge but what they did with it truly is. The restaurant was clean and orderly. The quality of the food was above the price of the food. Thank you for the wonderful experience and we will definitely try it again. read more

Puerto Vallarta - Quesadilla with carnitas appetizer with tomatoes on the side - Mexican Near Me - Redding, California

We have been going to Puerto Vallarta for almost 20 years now this is my favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Redding. We've spent many birthdays here with our family and friends and it's always our go to last night. My wife and I went and had dinner and we both ordered chili relleno, which we both love. Unfortunately the food seems really different. I don't know if they got a new cook or if they're trying new recipes to save money, but the quality just wasn't there the cheese and the chili relleno was like a hard cheese compared to the creamy stringy cheese. The inside of the chili relleno my wife's chili relleno had bacon in it which she does not eat bacon so that was concerning because we were not told there was bacon, and I didn't say anything about adding bacon to a chili relleno the sauce that they use on the chili has also changed. It's more of like a sweet tangy sauce, which didn't taste very good I also ordered a tamale, and it was oversaturated with sauce to where I couldn't even taste the tamale. I don't know that I'll be going back there anytime soon. read more

4 of us decided on Puerto Villarta for Sunday dinner. About 5 so it wasn't busy at all. The manager was our waiter and took our drink orders. Drinks came and it was 10 minutes before he came back to get out food orders. 2 of the plates came. 3 minutes later the 3rd plate made it out. 8 minutes later Husband still hadn't gotten his cheese enchilada and chili relleno. My son called over a passing waiter and mentioned the fact and also mentioned that the tortillas weren't brought out. He said he would check. in a few minutes he came back and told us it would be right out. My MIL finished her plate (small) meal). At this point we were 28 minutes after the 3rd plate came out. The tortillas made it! My son was almost finished. The plate comes out. 36 minutes after the 3rd plate comes out. Wrong order. They took the plate back. Corrected it but at that point it was just a pitiful mess. The manager did take Hubby's meal off of the bill but this should not have happened at all. The evening was not enjoyed and the food had left a lot to be desired. I don't know what has happened here but we won't be back. read more

Do NOT expect them to get your order right if you call it in. We have come here for years and have had some good experiences in the past while dining in the restaurant. Not sure if management has changed but service has really declined. Now, when we call, we repeat our order several times to make sure it's clear. Tonight I asked to check the dishes (inside the bag and inside the tin foil plates) and all 3 dinners were made with the incorrect sauce. This has happened twice before, but at least they didn't try to argue their way out of it like the previous times. It seems like it's the same person (short, with glasses). who makes the mistakes. The manager offered no apology, though he did listen as I explained that it has been nearly an hour since our initial order and I had people waiting in the car (and at home) for the food. Our family of 6 have decided we won't be back. It's just not worth the hassle even though the food is pretty tasty overall. There are many better places in Redding for Mexican food. read more

I have moved to Reading recently and weren't sure where all the restaurants are so my husband decided to go to Puerto Vallarta. He ordered two burritos one was chicken and the other one was beef it was the worst burrito ever they put in foil container usually bake food in .the chicken was so salty it was like they took it out of a can put a tortilla down wrapped it up and pour tons of sauce on it I didn't eat rice beans only sauce an onion .my husband is really good cook but he decided to get Mexican food that night. We will never go there again read more

Pre covid we came here pretty frequently. Tonight was our first night back since covid and it was terrible. While the food was good the service was not great. I specifically asked about the tostadas, like are they flour, and ordered a steak, bean and rice tostada x2. I got 2 supreme tostadas and when I told him they were wrong he said he could take them in the back and scrape it off. We made the mistake of ordering dessert.. not sure why because the waiter forgot to put the order in. We waited for 15 mins then he came by and asked us if we got it.. ummm no.. apparently he never ordered it. We left.. we did tell the manager who didn't even really offer to correct anything while we were paying. read more

This place is meh at best. The decor was nice, but the restroom smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. The servers were polite, but the food left a lot to be desired. My guest and I ordered Carnitas de Res and Lunch Chile Colorado (both dishes were $9.99 each). The Lunch Chile Colorado was soggy and bland. It tasted as if it came from the freezer. The Carnitas de Res did not fare much better, as it was salty and had MSG. Both dishes came with tortillas. We were also given complimentary chips, salsa, and dessert (cinnamon and sugar chips with whipped cream). Overall, the food was not anything special. I will not be back. read more

A little disappointed. Not a lot of people on a Wednesday @ 6:15pm, but still took 15 minutes to get our order placed. Patent of 8 for my sons 21st birthday. I ordered a tostada, (my favorite) and it was basically a head of lettuce chopped up onto a crisp tortilla. Salsa is really sweet with very little spice. The rest of the family seemed to enjoy their food. I'll order something different next time. read more

I have been going here for 15 years and I recently ordered a taco salad. I mean, who can screw that up? It was the worst taco salad ever. It was supposed to have ground beef and it had just mashed bean at the bottom. I called to tell the manager and the assistant manager was not really interested. Really really happy with them over my last several recent orders. I've been using entree express for delivery since I'm not cooking a whole lot lately. Of all my take out delivery experiences this one has been the one consistent. The food is REALLY GOOD, but the best part, they pay attention to your order. That's a rarity. Went here once and that was enough. Places seemed nice if not a bit slow, a very nice hostess sat us at our table and we very excitedly looked though the menu. Our waiter comes to take our order and we aren't quite ready yet, we say we need another minute, he seems to get visibly upset at this and says the kitchen closes in 5 minutes. It was 9:05 and the place is open until 10. He comes back after a minute to get our orders and we're ready this time. Me and my gf order without incident but when my friend orders the waiter makes her repeat her order like 5 times and he gets angrier and angrier every time and raises his voice quite loudly. He leaves out table and my friend is quite upset and distraught by the situation so we promptly leave. If you like a restaurant where the kitchen closes an hour before the restaurant closes and you get yelled at for ordering this is the place for you. read more

The best Mexican food I have ever had. I was just traveling through and wanted to get dinner. The food here is so delicious!!! It tasted like everything was freshly made from the tortilla chips, salsa, burritos and sides. I ordered the meal with two burritos and it came with yummy beans, rice, melted cheese, topped with lettuce and tomatoes. It really seemed like enough food for four people which is awesome. We loved the chips, salsa and beans and that was about it, sadly. The guacamole was definitely from the previous day, my husbands pork was half fat and my tacos were the wrong meat. When I told them, they seemed confused but took them back and returned in about 2 minutes with the same tacos that they had dumped the other meat out and jammed a tiny bit of shredded beef in. The waiter was very rude and never apologized. When we got the tortilla with strawberry syrup and whipped cream, it was so stale I couldn't bite it. We were there at 11:30 am so I'm pretty convinced this was also day old. We will not be returning. read more

We came here on a visit to somebody, and man, I knew at the salsa... if the salsa isn't good, chances are, the rest will follow. All the guys that helped us and waited on us, were great! They are the best thing this place has going. But the food is a NAhhhhhhhhh, NO GO. Sorry, but they got to get it together. I would suggest different suppliers and ingredients, and that might help the chef, or change that too.... or this is gonna have to fizzle out. We know Redding has chaaaaanged from our visits... but come on. I wouldn't suggest being out too late cause it's a diff kind of town now. Hope it changes. I think alot of people need HELP in Redding. The service was hurried, the food for me, a beef enchilada was a dog food enchilada I could not eat it. I just squished all the hamburger crap out of it and ate the tortilla and the cheese and the sauce which was not bad but the so-called beef I can't even talk about that. My wife had a shrimp taco that she enjoyed and a four dollar iced tea. I get it that it is very difficult to be in the restaurant business in California and as I stated before, very hard to stay in business, you gotta get your money where you can.. four dollars for an iced tea. They basically cost $.25. so you charged $2.50 that's reasonable four dollars I'll never pay that again . The service because we did not order big dollar items we never saw the waiter again. so he got a two dollar tip which is about what he earned. This place is not a good place. Do you want Mexican food go to Dos amigos. Dana and churn Creek. Most of the people in there as customers are Mexicans. It's not an atmosphere like Puerto Vallarta. If you want that kind of atmosphere go to Guadalajara on cypress. Their food is much better and the service is much better. Prices are comparable but you feel like the people care. Good grief.
