I'm trying to figure out why this place gets such good reviews. We took advantage of the beautiful weekend weather and sat outside on their patio. The patio is nothing special just a bunch of picnic tables in what appeared to be a driveway. Their menu is pretty expansive and it took awhile to decide what to eat. Chips and salsa came right away. The chips were crisp, but the salsa was pretty bland and did not have much flavor at all. I ordered a combo plate with a taco, enchilada and chalupa. The enchilada while the chicken inside was moist the tortilla was still pretty hard and the enchilada sauce was watery and lacking flavor. I thought I was getting a chalupa ended up just being a tostada with some chicken lettuce, tomatoes and guac. The refried beans were not the best I have had. My husband had the fish tacos that came highly recommended by our server and he said they were ok, but the ones we make at home are better. Overall, I was pretty disappointed in the food. We have finally found our Go-to Mexican Restaurant! We moved here last year and had a favorite (we are very partial to Mexican food) where we had loved but kept trying restaurants here not finding a place that not only had excellent food, selection and service but a great atmosphere until we discovered Mazatlan! Their back patio with the fun bar, lights makes you feel you are at a beach-resort restaurant in Mexico. The selection of margaritas and other adult and non-adult beverages is wonderful and the food was fabulous! They are one of the few places who makes an excellent Pollo Norteño (among other excellent dishes.). This selection is rare and authentic and we were instant fans! Ok, not really expecting much of little house converted to a restaurant in the middle of Wisconsin (the whitest place on the planet). WOW. I am born and raised Texan... this is really really good Mexican food. Starting with the re-fried beans... authentic, cooked on site, lard and bean water... perfect. Rice colorful fragrant. Now the beef enchiladas.... right on the spot. Right spice, right texture, right size, great sauce, and the right cheese. Great prices. Eat here and have a great fresh margarita!!!! We were going hiking nearby and needed some food. Mazatlan is awesome!!!! Clean, Soc Dist, Masks...we were lucky enough to eat outside. I got the steak la villa and it was awesome. I'm sure my husbands was great too, but I was too focused on my own meal, I don't think I even shared? The meat, onions, cheese, and the sauce it created was subtle with heat and sweet. Very disappointed in the quality of the food. I had the combo fajitas which came out pretty greasy with a nasty cheese sauce poured over it. My corn tortillas looked like they were soaked in oil before they were brought out. It's no surprise this restaurant didn't make it in Oconomowoc I'm surprised it still open in Delafield. read more

Came here with a friend on my way to Madison WI. It's nestled into a small strip of bars, shops, and restaurants in Delafield, WI. The two items I had were the Guacamole Azteca (moleajete) - Shaved avocados with onions, tomatoes, cilantro and peppers Seafood Chimichanga- flour tortilla deep fried and filled with Mixed seafood and beans. Topped with lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and nacho cheese and guacamole. The guacamole Azteca was FLAVORFUL!!! Delish with the tortilla chips. The tortilla chips were just ok but the GUACAMOLE made up for the mediocre chips. Service was pretty good. Parking was wide open as well. The seafood chimichanga was decent. Lots of shrimp inside but not many of the other seafood items. I decided to get this because you don't see it on many menus. Good none the less. As someone here also said, the $10-for-a-medium-size margarita had only a teeny tiny amount of tequila, if any. And I'm a lightweight drinker these days. Chile relleno had dry, unseasoned ground beef inside and very little cheese. Unlike CR I've had at many other restaurants; did not like this one. Taco had same beef and lettuce. That's it. No tomato; no cheese. Enchilada had no sauce and dry, unseasoned shredded chicken inside. All in all, food was bland and dry. TG for salsa. That and guac were good. I might have given two stars but for ripoff margarita. Service was good, but we were there at a very non-busy time. read more

I would like to start out by saying my initial judgement of a Mexican restaurant is based on the salsa and margaritas..... 1. Chips and salsa....4 star 2. Margaritas....1 start. They had a very weird taste and the worst part was absolutely no tequila. Weaker than weak! 3. The food was 4 star. 4. Service. 1 star. In fact the lady sitting with her husband in the booth next to us yelled at the waiter that she asked 3 different times for a glass of water and never got any. From 1988 to 1992 I was stationed down in Yuma AZ, which for those who do not know is right on the border of Arizona, California, and Mexico. The Mexican food in the Mexican border towns of San Luis and Los Algodones was the best Mexican food I have ever had. No U.S. Mexican restaurant has been able to come close to the food in those two towns until now. Mazatlan in Delafield was that good. The food had the same tastes as those restaurants down there along with great service and atmosphere. Best Mexican food I have had north of the Rio Grande for certain. read more

Stumbled upon this place while driving around Delafield looking for a bar. We were greeted and seated immediately and received chips and salsa at our table promptly after. Our waitresss was wonderfully friendly and came around to check on us the perfect amount. I went with my boyfriend and all we ordered was rice and margaritas but the rice was incredible and margs were great too - on the rocks and could taste the tequila, YUM! What more could you ask for! I may be a bit biased when it comes to Mexican food and restaurants as I normally dine on 5th Street in Milwaukee if I want good Mexican food However my wife and I heard many great things about Mazatlán and being that it's not too far from home we thought we would give it a try. Service was very good, we only had beer so I can't speak of their margaritas. Close by street parking was great, then again it was a Tuesday evening so I assume it's a bit trickier on Friday and Saturday evenings. The food however was a little disappointing. Chips and salsa were just ok. Could have been a little spicier for my taste but for my wife - she liked it. I ordered Jorges' Special which consisted of one chili relleno, one chicken enchilada and one tamal. I thought this would be a good dish to try since it had a nice variety. All three items were just plain to me. Cheese and mole sauce were too thin. They were not hot, hot spicy nor hot in temperature which was more irritating than the lack of spice. I have never had to add hot sauce in a Mexican restaurant, but here I did. My wife ordered the seafood enchiladas. As other reviewers also mentioned, the sauces lacked a bit, just a little too soupy - usually the cheese sauce is creamier but their cheese sauce on top of her enchiladas was very thin - almost watered down if you will. My wife's enchiladas were also too cool for her liking. The food came out fast enough so I'm not sure why both our dishes were not as hot as food should coming directly from the kitchen. read more

I am NEVER a person to complain, but we went here for Cinco de Mayo already expecting things to take a little longer than usual because of the holiday, but MAN, we didn't get approached to order drinks for an hour. This place is super cute inside ! The bar looks like it would be a real fun place if you don't have work the next day ! The staff was extremely nice ... Like the kind of nice that rubs off on you and makes you want to be nice to everyone you meet for the next week ... Spread the nice :) The menu was huge and had lots of appetizer options which you don't see at a lot of Mexican restaurants . I got the mixed fajitas that came with rice and beans . I don't understand the reviews that Mazatlan gets... We have been there 3 times each time GREAT (American) Mexican food! I would easily put it up against La Fuente or any of the Milwaukee institutions. Is this the food you'll get in Mexico? No, but we're in Wisconsin. It's yummy. We loved the outdoor patio and inside is equally as colorful, vibrant and fun. The wait staff has always been friendly and attentive. Last night we wanted to get a late dinner and tried Mazatlan a couple of minutes after 9pm - they were open until 10pm. My husband is a veteran in the restaurant biz and he was worried we would get bottom of the barrel food, it being so late. Not so, at all. Everything was hot, fresh and made quickly. Used to get lunch here a lot with co-workers. The food is alright, but the prices have gone up and food sizes have declined. If you do takeout, they have a charger per container, which I don't always understand (can be an issue if multiple people are paying for different items each). I usually order their taco salad (about $7), but sometimes it is missing a layer of ingredients (compared to menu list). I do like their outdoor beer garden; it is a nice place in the summer. Talk about a cute restaurant and excellent food! We ate here at noon on a Friday. We were seated immediately and had our beverages in less than 5 minutes. Our waiter was very attentive. Chips and salsa are brought to the table as soon as u are seated. The salsa comes in a mini wine carafe so you'll have plenty to go with the warm tortilla chips. We ordered a side of guacamole that was out of this world. The menu is extensive so it's hard to narrow down your choices. No worries!! No matter what you choose, you won't be disappointed. I had the steak la villa. The rib steak and shrimp were done to perfection. The onions and cheese sauce blended perfectly with the beef and seafood. I loved the side of refried beans and rice. This was the first time we have been here even though we have lived in the area for several years. Food was ok. My husband and I both had the Enchiladas Verdes. (Special) It was ok. Certainly didn't leave us very full especially after ordering table side guacamole and having a pre-made avocado salsa slop scooped into a stone bowl and placed on the table. On the menu, they offer small, large and table side guacamole. Table side guac? Not made at our table side. Prior to sitting in our seats at dinner we had never read the reviews for this place, but we were hankering for Mexican after a long day at the lake and this was a place we've biked past so we took a shot. We arrived at about 6pm to a full restaurant (save 3 two-person tables) and there were a number of other what appeared to be good signs: immediate delivery of delicious chips and salsa, overhearing a couple next to us talk to someone they knew on the way out saying they come to dine at least once a week, and a mariachi band... Well, then we looked at the Yelp reviews and thought...maybe things have changed from these other 2 star reviews...? Unfortunately that wasn't the case and many common themes were repeated. As stated earlier, the restaurant was busy but we got there as most people were beginning to head out. So instead of serving the people they had, the servers turned their attention to running around focusing on turning over tables. At one point we had been without refills of water/soda and chips for a solid 5 minutes while we watched them clean off tables until they had 6 tables empty and roughly 8 tables dining. We finally had to grab someone to ask for refills. As for the food, we both ordered 3 grilled chicken tacos (though I got it as a 'special plate' and the PIC got them a la carte to avoid the refried beans--since they don't have black beans to offer). When it arrived it was a cluster...they brought 3 plates of tacos to the table and two plates of refried beans. Once we sorted it all out and got down to eat we found tacos that were just okay but definitely bland. After flagging down a server and another 5 minutes we had two lime halves to squeeze on the tacos to bring a bit more flavor to them but they still weren't that good. (Note...we had finished a half marathon the night before and stopped at gasp, Taco Bell for their new cantina chicken tacos...this hurts to say, but Taco Bell outclassed them). We absolutely love this restaurant and go about twice a month (sometimes more). The food is delicious, authentic and very decently priced. This is the only restaurant we don't have to order a special margarita at because their house margarita is THAT GOOD! Stay clear of this place. Not worth it. While the staff is very friendly, the food simply sucks. My wife ordered the fish tacos and I ordered a chimichanga plate. The presentation of both was not appealing. My wife's fish tacos were really bad. Dry and fishy tasting. My chimi tasted like they used a roast for the meat, with no seasoning. It too was dry. My wife sent hers back. She is a vegetarian and ordered the veggie enchiladas instead, but they came with a meat filled stuffed poblano pepper. Our son ordered chicken strips and fries. The fries were not completely done and un salted. The only thing that was good was the beer and his 2 chicken strips. When asked if we liked our dinners, we were honest and told them no. That it tasted bad. They really didn't seem to care. At least that was the impression. A manager came over and asked about our meals and to find out what was going on. We told her, but then she walked a way. We were presented with our bill for the full amount. Stay clear of this restaurant. It sucks. read more

We stopped in here during the Delafield Halloween event. My wife stopped first intending to feed our three month old and have a drink and an app while I took my son trick or treating. My son and I stopped back and we ordered two apps for ourselves and a cheese quesadilla and glass of milk for our son. The apps came super quick which was expected. The waiter came back once and we again asked for the milk we ordered. The waiter didn't return. My wife went to find another waiter and make another request for milk and just got a nod and an "ok." Our waiter finally returned and I asked him about the milk and quesadilla and he seemed dumbfounded. Miraculously when I asked about these two items they showed up almost immediately. I've never been in a sit down restaurant where I got such terrible service. I spoke with the manager/owner and he just brushed it off and took the two items off the bill. On another note...the mens restroom was out of paper towels. Noted in the restroom is the standard "Employees must was hands etc...." How is an employee to properly wash their hands without paper towels? read more
