I went to Dr. Patel for pre-op testing. Let me begin by saying that the office staff is very accommodating and warm. Talia did my vitals and my EKG. She is extremely compassionate and through. Elise did my blood draw and she hit the vein on the first shot and drew 4 vials in a heartbeat. No fuss, no muss. Elizabeth is the glue that keeps everything together for the practice. She is nice and has a sweet sense of humor. Although I tend to like anyone who laughs at my joks. This is one efficient, yet kind office. Dr. Patel was conscientious and thorough. Absolutely worst experience with a doctor of my entire life. First, there's no parking at all. You have to pay for it underground because the streets are always overloaded. Then he asked me to get my CT scans from my other hospital and when I called the hospital, they said they would go ahead and mail them, but they never did so I called Dr. Patel's office a few days before my appointment to ask them if they received them and they said no. They never even reached out to me to tell me they never received them. Then I needed refills for my medication I have to nebulizer for my lungs and a weak had passed, and the pharmacy never called me because my prescription was never called in. I had to call their office then they only called in a one month supply with one refill and I requested a three month supply with three refills. Just ridiculous. He has a horrible bedside manner and talks way too fast. It's very hard to understand him. He never asked me any questions. He never taught me anything new. He never showed any concern whatsoever for my well-being. He even went as far to say on a phone call that he doesn't get paid to talk to me unless I make a follow up appointment for my results. They're trying to charge me another $50 for a follow up appointment! All I wanted were the results of my sputum sample which they had had for two weeks, but never told me they had the results. He refused to tell me the results until I made a follow up appointment so what I'm just gonna go in there and he's gonna say well you don't have an NTM bye take, please give me your money.! There's no humanity in this man. And the office staff act like they're doing you a favor whenever you ask for something like your prescriptions. One of the employees over there even uses all capital letters with her replies via emails. What is she yelling at me? Absolutely horrible horrible horrible experience. Run don't walk! Healthcare is really gone down and it's so disappointing and depressing. I might have to go with the option of a PPO because HMO stink all the doctors suck. He is not only my primary care doctor but happened to be on call at St. Joe's in Burbank when I took myself to the ER because of major stomach pain this past Saturday. He came right down to the ER and asked me questions and expedited me thru the process. Since he was on call all weekend he checked on me periodically and was always warm and took care of my every need and question and still does since I was released. I could ask for no better of a doctor. Plus, he specializes in lung and I have COPD which is another plus. read more

He gave my family hope that I could survive. I trust him for his experience, wisdom and judgment. He is thorough and investigative. He recommended good colleagues for follow through. I didn't choose Dr. Patel as my doctor. It just happened that I was admitted to Providence St Joseph and he was assigned as my doctor. That was the only time that I saw him. Today I had an issue with the pharmacy at St Jo. I found out that the prescriptions were needed to be renewed by the doctor. The pharmacy said they called his office but the request was denied. I called the office myself and spoke with Christina who told me that the prescriptions won't be renewed unless I make an appointment with the doctor. I was freaking out over the phone and she told me not to yell at her and she won't argue with me. I'm aghast how inconsiderate and unwilling for the staff to help even after telling that my life is dependent on these medications. They simply don't care. I'll be looking for another doctor. To begin this review, I'd just like to say that I've never given a 1 star review on Yelp before. For me, Yelp is a forum to celebrate the restaurants I love. I'm all about positivity, which is why I feel slightly conflicted writing this review. However, quality healthcare is absolutely essential for just about everyone, so I can't help but steer you away from Dr. Patel's office. At worst, a bad restaurant can give you food poisoning, but a bad doctor can ruin your life. Dr. Patel may not be a wholly bad doctor, but he's certainly not a good one. At best, he's a moderately negligent doctor with a disorganized office. TL;DR account of experience: Dr. Patel received test results indicating I had a broken wrist and failed to communicate those results to me for over 4 weeks. After a second opinion from an orthopedic, Dr. Patel not only failed to report my test results to me for over a month, he actually MISDIAGNOSED my fracture. According to Dr. Raymond Raven from OSS Burbank, the fracture was just a major sprain. Dr. Patel didn't cause any lasting damage to my health, but do I really want a doctor that fails to report test results and misdiagnoses fractures? I (and you) should do ourselves a favor and go elsewhere. --Detailed account of experience-- I encourage you to avoid Dr. Patel because he provides subpar treatment and his office is unprofessional. After falling hard on my wrist and suffering from moderate wrist pain for several months, I finally decided to have Dr. Patel take a look. He told me to get an X-ray and wait for a call. I got the x-ray and waited for the promised call with my results. No call came. A week passed, 10 days, then finally I called to get my results. Rather than giving my results over the phone, the office told me I would have to schedule an appointment to receive my results. Finally, a week later (3 weeks from the x-ray and a month from my initial appointment) I get on a telehealth call with Dr. Patel. Nonchalantly, Patel pulls up my chart and tells me that I HAVE A BROKEN WRIST. That's right! My wrist was broken, and he'd had the test results for weeks, and simply hadn't thought to tell me. Isn't there something in the Hippocratic Oath condemning this type of behavior? Patel did not apologize for his oversight by the way, just signed off the call assuring me a referral to an orthopedic. Dr. Patel's office is also just a bad environment. You're treated like you're at the DMV, but the DMV is actually better because you leave with your questions answered. The DMV is also better because they do things digitally. Expect to leave any appointment at Dr. Patel's office with 2-3 random sheets of paper, and also be prepared to receive cash/check bills in the mail. read more

He was and is considered one of the most brilliant , dedicated MD's, one that is well respected by his fellow MDs and staff. I chose him as the physician for my family and me. Each interaction with him has confirmed my decision. He is very thorough and knowledgable of the latest advances for optimum health and particularly pulmonary/cardiovascular health. I feel very confident with his recommendations and advice. He has handpicked an excellent staff that strives to accommodate patients in scheduling, questions, and medication renewals. He holds the staff to the high standards he has set for himself. The office staff are very patient, reliable and organized. I know that they are dedicated and compassionate, as I have witnessed them working with patients who are short of breath and feeling anxious. Dr. Patel is truly an exceptional doctor! He came into our lives 3 years ago when my mom was very ill and Dr. Patel attended to her in the ICU. He followed up with her after she was discharged and when I saw how much he cared about her and her wellbeing I switched both of my parents over to his practice. My parents have had several medical challenges over the past 3 years and Dr. Patel always takes his time to listen and explain the diagnosis and treatment options. He is extremely knowledgeable, very thorough, and caring. It is rare to find a doctor that provides outstanding medical care along with patience, compassion and kindness, all of which we have found with Dr. Patel. He genuinely cares about his patients. The day I went was not good in terms of waiting. The office was slammed. I had an appointment at 10:30am and signed the check in paper at 10:15am. I did not get called in until 11:05am. An update to my review; about a month after seeing this "doctor" I was rushed to the ER by paramedics because of difficulty breathing. I still had the cough that originally sent me to his office, but my condition was nearly fatal. I was rushed to the ICU in critical condition with large blood clots in both lungs and it was causing a great strain on my heart. So his assessment that "you'll live" was close to being as wrong as he could get. So, I'd encourage you to find a doctor that will actually listen to your history and do a thorough exam, not one that imparts his brand of "wisdom" by telling you "you'll live". read more

Dr. Mayur Patel has comically terrible practice. If you want a business-oriented MD and to be treated like garbage, he's your baby boy. His desk personnel is poorly trained, rude and combative; giving conflicting information and not knowing how insurance works. Recently, Dr. Patel assessed my bloodwork, and I was told by his staff I didn't need to fast (I did). He simply read to me off the script sent to him by Quest; there was zero insight on his part even with the wacky numbers since I hadn't fasted. Additionally, during our session, he took a phone call and berated a social worker advocating for the poor treatment of one of his clients. Later, I called his office to voice with him directly my dissatisfaction, before I could share with him specific feedback, he said "I don't like you, go to a new doctor" and hung up. I am a patient of Dr. Mayur Patel. He was also a partner with my mom's Pulmonary doctor and on 1-2 occasions actually took care of my mother who passed away in 2005. He is my internist and I travel from Simi Valley just so I can have him as my primary care physician. I am a cancer survivor and he knows my other physicians and he is highly respected as a conscientious, knowledgeable and experienced physician who is patient, caring and thorough. He has an excellent bedside manner and listens well to any concerns you might have as a patient. I have been going to this doctor for over five years but this last year I have had two issues that should never occur at a doctors office where it is implied you can trust the people behind the counter. My first visit of the year I was told my insurance had been updated(it hadn't) and that I would need to pay near $80 more for the first visit of the year. I didn't have any reason to think that she was lying but because it was strange I called my insurance to verify the extra charge. My insurance informed me that they should only charged me the $40 copay and nothing else. After calling the doctors office back I was told they were "very" backed up and it would take at least 2 months to get a refund processed.. In the end it took three months to actually get paid back for them over charging me. After that I went back a couple times and the new doctor they previously assigned me to, Dr. Sagie De Guzman, (I was never asked if I wanted to switch doctors) said I really needed a specific exam and asked why I had kept putting it off. I made it very clear it was because I could not afford it and he told me without hesitation the exam would definitely be free for me but he would check with the front desk. We walked to the front desk and the woman looked me directly in the eyes and said the service would be free. Thinking back on it now I am kicking myself because she didn't even say anything about checking with my insurance to be sure, she just said it wouldn't cost me anything. A month later I received a bill for $170... I believe the term for this is "bait and switch". I called back to ask how that could have happened and Jennifer informed me that she would look into it. Over a week later I get a call back informing I will have to pay the bill and that the doctor "wouldn't" have told me the exam was free because he knows that is it not. So not only was I given bad information by that doctor but he is now claiming he would not have said anything like that. If it wasn't an honest mistake Dr. Sagie De Guzman is a scam artist! He made me believe an exam would be free and then sticks me with an outrageous bill. I would understand if he admitted to the mistake but claiming he would have never stated the exam would be free takes this to a whole new level. Unless you like being lied to by those who claim to have your best interest in mind you need to find another doctor. These guys are now preying on anyone stupid enough to fall for their lies and I have to admit I was one of those people. After the beginning of the year I should have definitely double checked on my end and I am going to pay because I didn't but it doesn't get any lower than a doctors office that has to make people believe the services are free in order to make money. read more

I went to make an appointment in person as I was on the 2nd floor with my Gp. They were amazing. I can't remember her name but she gave me an appt at 4:30 day of due to a cancellation. I was thrilled. Then as I was at the elevator she came running up to me saying she could get me in now! As for Dr. Patel, his " bedside" manor is a little bit to be desired. First thing I noticed is he wants to blame my asthma on my weight (typical for many doctors). Second thing, when I reviewed my chart on his patient portal, he first noted patient was informed it was a TELE visit. THEN reported there was a physical examination that included the following: Head: Atraumatic head with normal size and shape.; Neck: Suple with no LN,JVD or cartoid bruits; Ear: Normal examination with no discharge; Nose: normal exam with no discharge; Throat: normal throat examination, no white patches, erythema, discharge or drainage, Eyes, Heart, Lungs, BREAST, abdomen, spine/back, EXTREMETIES, cns, SKIN...HOW THE HECK DID HE DO ALL THAT WHEN IT WAS A TELEHEALTH APPOINTMENT? He couldn't see my throat through video because he never asked me to open. He couldn't see my ears or nose because he didn't have the proper tool to look. He never TOUCHED me because it was a VIDEO appointment!!!! I'm going to call my insurance and see what he billed them for. Then I will be reporting to the Medical board! read more

So im waiting inside the room thinking that the doctor will come back again because i asked for the prescription and i didnt here that im done plus he was wearing a mask, so for about 5 min my wife asked the staff to tell me that i was done. Not only have I been a patient of Dr. Mayur Patel's, I have referred several friends and family members. The way in which he has taken care of my friends and family has on a couple of occasions brought me to tears of gratitude. A more caring, kind and gentle doctor would be impossible to find. Dr. Patel was so patient with me. He listened to what I was saying to him and I felt like I got the treatment I needed.

At first, I was very impressed; however, once the sleep study was concluded and I was fitted for a CPAP, things changed. i called the doctor to tell him about the problems I was having and he poo pooed them and told me to muddle through until my next appointment in 6 weeks. I ended up returning the CPAP, discovering that only UCLA and one other doctor in Tarzana were fully accredited. He was not. I made an appointment at UCLA, met with the doctor and was told about different equipment that would be better suited for me. Dr. Patel insisted my problem was I was breathing through my mouth. This is impossible to do with the type of CPAP machine I had and I knew I wasn't. UCLA gave me a machine that is totally automatic; i.e., you get the amount of air you need at the moment, not a constant flow all night long. From the beginning of my use of this new machine, I have not had any problems. Also, when I told Dr. Patel that his office person, when I called to cancel the sleep study because he was not in my network, told me he had agreed to accept the amount of money the insurance would pay as payment in full, said. Well, you know, she's no longer here. Not my problem. I told him I offered to pay what my co-pay would have been had he been in my network, he agreed, but not before he attempted to barter with me to increase my share. I refused; however, every statement I have received from his office bears the incorrect amount I owe, even though I faxed them back explaining the agreement I had reached with the doctor. read more

Unfortunately, I have had a nightmare experience with Carol from the Billing Dept. at Dr. Patel's office and would NEVER recommend anyone to go there. I had an asthma attack back in Jan. where my regular Dr. sent me to Dr. Patel's office for further testing and examination. In late April, I received a voice message from Carol saying that I need to call back right away about an urgent matter. When I called back, she informed me that I owed over $400 and it was past due. I told her that this was the first time hearing about it and she needed to send me a bill before I pay anything. Carol told me that she sent out statements in Feb., March, and April. I told her I never received those, and was not going to pay anything until I see for myself an itemized bill. She didn't believe me and said I needed to make a payment because it is past due and threatened to take it straight to collections. I have no problem paying a bill, but I by no means received anything from them until that phone call. I ended up hanging up because she was seeming to accuse me of lying. When I received the bill, she had billed me the incorrect amount and I had Health Advocate contact her on my behalf because I could no deal with her attitude and horrible customer service. Two representatives called on my behalf from Health Advocate, and both of them told me that she put up an attitude and was not nice and willing to help me solve the billing issue. She was still accusing me that I haven't paid anything in over 90 days because she sent the bills in previous months. After much back and forth, and carefully examining the bill (it was the most confusing bill I have ever seen), we settled on the correct amount and she billed me once again. I notified her through Health Advocate that I want to make it in payments of $50 per month, and she said she would only accept $85 per month because it's my fault I'm already late. Quite honestly, Carol is hurting Dr. Patels office and I was absolutely horrified by her lack of customer service, and accusing me of lying. I will never return there, and will warn everyone to stay far away unless they want to deal with Carols attitude and rudeness. I made a payment of $85 to get her off my back because she kept threatening me to take me to collections. DON'T GO HERE and deal with Carol's nonsense. read more
