I am so happy with the service here. I brought in one of my Lululemon zippered pullovers because the zipper had come apart. When I first brought it in, they told me they would have to completely replace the zipper, which made me a little sad because the logo zipper would be gone with a generic. I agreed and paid the $20 cash up front. When I came to pick it up a week later, she told me they were able to save the original zipper and just re-align it. I was thrilled with that alone, and then she even handed me a $10 bill to refund me for the zipper that I was originally supposed to get, which I didn't even think about because I was just so happy to keep the original one. I feel like the lady (possibly the owner?) is very honest and goes out of her way to make customers happy. She knew how badly I wanted the original zipper left and she was able to make it work! This is definitely my permanent alterations place. read more

Let me start off by saying that the alterations weren't horrible, but then again, they weren't great. I stopped into May's with about 5 button up shirts and a pair of jeans. I tried on the jeans she measured me, we agreed on a length and then I moved onto trying on the shirts. The first shirt I needed the to be taken in as it was too baggy/ballooning. She told me she was going to add darts instead of taking it in on the sides. She suggested that because it would 'look better and is cheaper than taking it on the sides'. Next shirt was too long and I needed it to be shortened. She asks me how short, and I said hmm I'm not exactly sure, but I brought a sample shirt that has a good length. She kinda snaps at me and tells me "No, it's too late to show a sample, you should have told me that from the beginning, I'm too busy for that". Honestly, at that moment I should have gotten my things together and said I don't want to give you my business. Unfortunately I just kind of froze and said ok and let her pin it shorter. I didn't really feel like dealing with her anymore so I didn't bother bring out the other 3 shirts I brought me to be altered. I paid for the alterations and was given a 1 week turn around time. The jeans came out great, but the 2 shirts.....not so much. I know understand why she suggested darts rather than taking it in from the sides. She made 2 pinches of fabric in the back of the shirt and sewed on the inside so there is the excess fabric on the inside of the shirt. The shirt that was to be shortened ended up being too short. I suppose that is somewhat my fault since I should have insisted that she let me try on the other shirt. My other complaint about that shirt is that there is a button 3 cm away from the bottom of the shirt which looks pretty awkward. I have had clothes altered at other places that have gone to great lengths to make the clothes look normal after the alteration. I would not come back here for any other services. I guess you could say that if you are wanting a basic job done with a quick turn around time, use May's Alteration. If you have more intricate alterations to be done, I'd be weary of using her since it seems its about a quick turn around time and not that much about quality of tailoring. On the plus side, the alterations are somewhat cheap, the place is clean, and they have a pretty quick turn around. read more

May altered my wedding dress in June 2013. She is very friendly and business-like, and her shop is clean. My dress needed the straps moved, the bodice taken in, and the train bustled - altogether, this cost me a little over $100 (which seemed very fair). I told her I didn't have any rush, and she had the dress done in four weeks. My only complaint is that the bustle ripped out after about 30 minutes of wearing it and I had to go back and safety pin the train up. May did an outside bustle to show off the beading, but I wished I had been more gentle (I ripped it out while moving from standing to sitting down), had pre-secured the bustle with a safety pin inside the dress, or had gotten a more secure inside bustle. Overall, I had a good experience and thought May did a great job with the alterations. read more

May is a skillful tailor with a passion for what she does. Her work is consistently of excellent quality, and her prices range from completely-fair to extraordinarily-low, depending on the work that needs to be done. I have had her alter a few suits, including adding surgeon's cuffs to one, and narrowing the shoulders of another - neither of these are particularly easy alterations, but she managed to do them in a timely fashion and for a very reasonable rate. On another suit, there was a pesky roll on the back that was not your typical quickly-fixed collar roll. The required work was unorthodox, and although it took a few visits to get right, it came out great in the end. I have also had her alter a number of shirts and pants - primarily slimming, hemming, and tapering. I am very happy with her work on each. If she thinks I am asking her to take something in too far, or to cut it too short, she warns me, and so far she has been invariably correct (besides our disagreement on good pant lengths). Additionally, she is a very pleasant woman. Going in alone to have something tailored can feel a little awkward, but she is very polite and easy to converse with. All-in-all, I cannot recommend May's Alterations enough. read more

I recently brought pants to May's for hemming. I had passed her business numerous times traveling down Neil. It is easy to find with convenient parking. The shop itself is clean and bright. The dressing room is clean and nice (and private). May herself was delightful and helpful. The pants were hemmed beautifully in two days. I thought the price was fair and the work nicely done. I got my suits sleeves and pants shortened. It's just simple alteration so there's not too many techniques involved. I'm kind of disappointed because when I picked up my suits it's not even ironed. When I asked, she told me they don't iron clothes because she's not good at it. I don't believe the iron can be hard thing for a tailor, so maybe this store is not so professional as I expected. Normal alteration can be completed here and the price is a bit expensive based on the quality of service. read more

I needed a bridesmaid dress shortened just a little bit. She was so helpful and actually suggested shortening the straps instead of cutting the bottom. Now the top of the dress fits even better and the length is perfect! $25 and took about 5 days. I don't usually get things altered but if I ever need to again May's is awesome!! read more

I bought several "T" shirts and never could wear any of them without the shirt looking like I had on a dress. So, I took 12 of them to May and WHEW! She charged me $12.00 per shirt per hymn. But, I knew I could never wear them unless I had them shortened so, I gave her the go ahead. May said 1 week. I went back 1 week later to pick them up and by-golly they were done! Took them home, put em in the washer, tried em on and low & behold they fit!! So, I took the remainder (8) more "T" shirts into May and again, $12.00 per shirt per hymn. She said 1 week. I went back 1 week later and they were done. Expensive? Yes! But, now I have 20 new "T" shirts, all different colors to choose from and they don't look like dresses when I wear them. (not that I have anything against dresses) if worn by women, which I'm not! May kept her word and had my shirts done in a timely manner. Plus, May done quality work. She had the attitude like it was a burden to measure me. Had the attitude of not wanting to do shoulder work like it was a hassle. She committed to doing a single shirt in 12 days. Because of the negative vibes I had during my first customer service experience with her, I had a feeling there could be an issue with her delivery. I called to ask if my shirt was ready on day 8, it hadn't been touched and and she let it wouldn't be ready by the deadline because she was not going to be in the shop. I'm also leaving which is why the original deadline was important. I had 10+ other shirts with me and I didn't give them to her demeanor on how she measured the first one. Best part of the experience was I didn't waste the time to have her do all of my shirts. I even spoke my basic Korean to break the ice. read more

I can't say enough good things about May's. I had to get my wedding gown hemmed and the end result totally exceeded my expectations! The bottom of the dress was lace and had a train, so it had to almost be completely taken apart and sewn back together. Despite this challenging job, I was charged about a third of what I was expecting, and it was beautiful! I can't even tell that it was hemmed and it is just the right length. I am VERY PLEASED with May's Alterations! This is the first time I tried her, and I will definitely be back! I had a denim jeans jacket that had to be taken in as well as the waistband. I know a little about sewing and knew this was going to be a complicated job, especially since I wanted the jacket taken in where the two double seams with top stitching are on the back so it would be camouflaged. Basically, I was asking her to take the back of the jacket apart and take the waistband off, cut fabric off, and then reassemble it and sew it back together again. I was skeptical when she said she would have it done in four days. I returned a week later (just because that's as soon as I could get there), and I was the happiest person in the world when I got my jacket back! She did an OUTSTANDING job!!!! You can't even tell the jacket has been taken in or that the top stitching is any different. I looked at my jacket outside in the sun as I placed it in my car, and I couldn't even see the seam where the waistband had been take in. I found it only upon very close inspection once I got home. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this very sweet lady! read more
