My fiancé went to this establishment because she wished to have her wedding outfit altered for our wedding day. The person who took care of her informed her that the wedding outfit looked bad on her and that there was "nothing they could do" to fix the situation and suggested that she find a new outfit instead of helping with the tailoring needs. This left my fiancé crying and asking if she had made a mistake on her special day. I find it highly suspect that there was "nothing they could do." But, even if that is the case, the lack of professionalism and decorum when talking with a soon-to-be bride is absolutely appalling. I do not recommend this establishment. Came to Noy to get my suit pants hemmed. This was my first time getting any type of alteration done. The process was super simple I just came in to the store with my pants, changed into them in the changing room, and the gentlemen used a pin to adjust my pants to my desired length. I left him with the pants and got notified it complete after two days and it costed $16. Everything went smooth and the pants fit perfectly now! read more

What can I say. There are no words to describe the talent hidden in this little gem. My first experience with them was last year when my birthday dress was way too big and they measured and cut it perfectly for me. More recently, I had some negro league patches from an old jersey of my husband' s that I wanted put onto a new jacket for Father's Day. They absolutely exceeded my expectations!. The jacket is amazing and she even went online and researched and found out what year the league started and added her own touches. I've tried them twice. I won't be going back. Both times the person at the counter (a man) was exceptionally curt and rude. The first time I went it I was unacknowledged while he waited on someone he clearly knew well. This went on for 15 minutes! As of March 31, 2012, this shop has moved to 1205 S. Mattis Ave. in Champaign, next door to Denny's Cleaners and Little Caesars. When I was trying to find its location, the Internet (including Yelp) gave me 3 different addresses (the Noy Alterations website even lists 2 different addresses!). After much confusion in trying to find the store, I called their phone number (which was luckily kept the same) and got correct directions. This is just a heads-up for future customers, since the shop owner seems to have a habit of changing venues frequently... A zipper had broken on my dress and I called around town to get some price estimates. Every place quoted me $20, including Noy. However, when I brought the dress in, I was only charged $15. Service was very prompt (the dress required only 3 days to repair), and the quality was top-notch: the zipper was a good brand and even sturdier than the original one that broke. In addition, the sewing was expertly executed as there was no weird distortion of the fabric; the dress fits and feels better than ever! The owner was very friendly in our transaction. When I came to pick up my finished dress, she showed me the area that was repaired to make sure that I was satisfied with the work. Very professional. read more

Always had Noy do my alterations over the past 10 years & always very pleased. However, took a leather jacket to have the lining fixed. At Noy's insistence, she said it had to be replaced. After picking it up, lining was too bulky in the arms & also in the back. Did not ask for that heavier lining & after taking it back to be fixed, Noy was leaving the country until Spring of this year. Took it back, as she requested, & was told she sold the business (even though the new owner is still using her name on the outside & on business cards), & was working at a restaurant. New owner said "not fixable," & so-called manager was very rude & inconsiderate. Will NEVER take anything there again -- not even a sock with a hole in the toe!!! read more

this is one of the best alteration places that i have ever found. ever. the two women that i have met here are super sweet and are willing to do pretty much anything to your clothes in order to make them look the best they can on you. the first time i went i had 3 dresses that all needed to be taken in and hemmed and adjusted at the bust. and they were not just simple dresses: one had lace throughout the dress, another was silk (and thus harder to alter bc of the way the fabric drapes etc) and two of them had a lot of detail that needed to line up after altering them. i was super nervous to find a new alterationist here because the dresses are not cheap (2 from anthropologie and 1 from j.crew) and i have had some bad experiences in the past...but alas, these women are on point for alterations! and, the best part: only 4 days later i had all of my dresses that fit me absolutely perfectly!!!! i think the prices are average, the simpler of the 2 were $25 each and the most detalied was $40. (i had a dress that needed its straps adjusted this summer in chicago and that alone was $40, so by that standard, these prices were great!) i have also brought my boy's pants and suits to be taken in or hemmed, and everything turns out just as great! the only negative thing about this place is that they take cash or checks only. but they do give you the total before you go so no surprises when you come back to pickup! kudos, n. tailoring! read more

I tried N Tailoring and Alteration after seeing the high reviews it got on Yelp. I won't be returning. I dropped off two simple cotton sun dresses and a skirt that needed hemming last Wednesday. I specifically asked if I could get them by Saturday because I'm graduating and wanted to wear one of the dresses to graduation. She said that would be fine, took my information, and said to come before 3 on Saturday. I went back at about 1:30 on Saturday to pick up my clothes and they had lost them. I stood there for about ten minutes while they looked around but they couldn't find them. Finally, she said she'd keep looking and call me. I get a call around 3 that she found them, but that she hadn't started working on them yet and could she get them to me next Wednesday. I said no, I need them tonight. I have to wear one of the dresses tomorrow and then I'll be out of town for two weeks and wanted to bring the other things with me. She said she would have to work past when they normally closed (at 3), but that I could come get them tonight. I asked what time and she said around 7 or 8 and she would call me. At 8:15 I still hadn't heard anything. I had called twice and no one picked up and there was no answering machine. I drove over there and I could see my clothes all balled up and hanging there, but there were no bags on them and the ticket was on them that I had filled out when I dropped them off. The store was dark except for a light in the back, but there were no cars around the building at all and when I knocked no one answered. I tried calling but I could hear the phone ringing in the store and again, no one answered. So, I STILL don't have my dresses or skirt, which means the outfit I was planning on wearing to my graduation tomorrow is apparently not happening. Oh, and did I mention I had prepaid for the alterations? Yes. So now they have my money AND my clothes. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

Based on the positive reviews and the fact that May's alternations was temporarily closed, my husband and I took 4 jackets in to Noy to have the sleeves shortened. We were told that we'd be charged $35 for 3 of them and $55 for a more complicated jacket. The tailor originally said she'd give us a discount since we had a large order ($35 for each) but later charged us the full price for nebulous reasons. When we picked up the jackets, which were ready 3 days late, all 4 jackets were almost identical to before. When we brought up the problem, the tailor refused to correct them or to discount the price. Basically, she argued that we had agreed to pay $160 to have the sleeves shortened so the fact that she had done a terrible job was our problem, not hers. Awful. read more

I took my bridesmaid dress here to have it let out a little on top and have the bottom hemmed. I don't have lot of experience with tailoring, so I was shocked that she charged $50 for the hem and $70 to let the dress out on the top, but seeing as it was too late to order a new one I had no choice. The top was sloppy at best- the seams were poorly done with lose strings everywhere, after complaining, she said there was nothing she could do this is just how it would fit. It didn't even look like the same dress. I went in the second time to get the hem done and the woman who did the measuring was the on the phone the entire time. When I got the dress back the hem was awful, the stitch was too wide and it was tearing on the fabric. By the end of the wedding reception, the majority of the hem had fallen. After comparing my dress to that of other bridesmaids in the wedding it was clear mine was done poorly, and I paid the same price as they did. I wouldn't recommend this tailor unless its for something very simple. read more

Noy's work is first-rate and reasonably-priced. I've had her tailor 4 Kenneth Cole suits and she was meticulous. She really goes the extra mile in ensuring that suits are tailored to perfection - after tailoring, she would have me try on the suits, scrutinize the fit, and re-work them until satisfied. On average, it would cost under $50 per suit to bring the jacket in, bring the waist in, tailor the sleeves, and cuff the pants. Very reasonably-priced compared to Chicago prices and the quality of work is outstanding. read more

I needed to have a bridesmaid dress taken in a bit in the bust. When I picked it up less than a week later, I wasn't able to even come close to zipping up the back. There was about a 3 inch gap in the back where the zipper wouldn't even come together. When I showed it to them, they looked at it for a while and then said there was no way they could fix it. She then went on to suggest that I had moved the pins when she was first measuring me, that I had gained that much weight over the course of about 5 days, etc. She then refunded me most, but not all, of the money I had paid for the dress, but said that they needed to keep it and that I could come back and get the dress when I "lost the weight." I had to go out and find a completely new bridesmaid dress 2 days before the wedding was scheduled. Needless to say, I was very disappointed in Noy's service. read more

Noy tailoring REALLY came through for me. I was in back in Champaign for my mom's funeral. I tried on my dress the night before the funeral and totally destroyed the zipper and ripped the seam in the front. This is a really nice silk vintage dress and I love it. I apparently gained some weight and the dress that was perfect destroyed. Needless to say I was already a little emotional and this put me over the edge. I brought the dress in and they told me that they could not let it out and change the zipper because all of the seams had been cut in a way that they could not let it out (a testament to its original quality) and because it was so old. I explained my situation they told me they would see what they could do and to come back in 2 hours. Oh my god! They did a fantastic job! They let every seam out a minuscule amount and keep the original lines and integrity of the dress! It fit amazing and they only charged me $35! They are awesome and do amazing work! They went out of their way to help me and did a fabulous amazing job! read more
