Service can be treacherously long at the bar as well. This place just seems a bit gross- and the bathrooms are... in need of a makeover or something because they're insanely tiny. This used to be my favorite bar in San Marcos. We came back for graduation and went in and sat in the corner up front. The bar area was really hot inside, so I reached over and opened the window next to our table. The bouncer outside saw and immediately walked up and starting yelling at me for opening the window. I apologized and asked him if I could keep it cracked open since it was super hot. He said no, and pulled it shut so I shrugged it off and went back to my conversation with my group. All of a sudden, I heard someone say "get out, you need to leave" and I looked up and the bouncer was angrily walking up to my table. I looked at him in shock and without waiting, he grabbed my arm and said " you argued with me, get out, leave now, LEAVE". I stood up and he grabbed my (full) drink out of my hand, and drug me out of the bar by my arm while also pushing one of my friends. It all happened so fast I was shocked. We are both tiny and it was incredibly violent and scary. This was our first bar and we had one drink each and were not being unruly. For him to grab two small women and throw them out of a bar over one of them opening a window was asinine. Not only that, but I was super amenable when he asked me to stop. I am still in shock and shaken up over it. I have never been anywhere close to a situation like this. It was scary and humiliating when we did absolutely nothing wrong. Feel free to contact me as I am happy to discuss and give details to management. I was a regular at Mayloos when I went to school and we were excited to visit and made a point to go to the Square just so we could stop in. I honestly can't fathom why the bouncer felt so angry that such an extreme response was illicited. It felt like he was just having a bad night and was annoyed and lost his temper. For him to bully two small girls was a toxic masculinity flex on his part and I can't believe in 2022 Mayloos is still associating with this type of employee. I will not return. read more

This bar used to be one of my favorite bars. Until I realized how racist they were. They did not allow me in because of my neck tattoo , and the tattoo is clearly not gang related. I am of mixed race and have darker complexion so i can't help but feel as if they're just stereotyping me to be a danger in the bar. The bouncers were also extremely rude. This really hurt my feeling because i always showed love when i came here and didn't have this tattoo. I've gave them thousands of dollars throughout the years and always leave a hefty tip knowing the bartenders here probably don't get good tips because of the bar being in a college town. I can't believe what just happened. My favorite bar used to be Mayloos when I went to school at Texas State. I was in town for a friends graduation and our group sat in the corner of the front of the bar. It was very hot and my girlfriend opened the window to let in the breeze. The doorman asked her not to do that, and she complied without argument. He came inside, grabbed her by the arm saying she needed to leave and started to pull her outside, aggressively. We were totally caught off guard at how inappropriate the doorman was but walked out of the bar as a group of 4, not finishing the drinks we had just ordered. We were so stunned at how unreasonable and violent the doorman was, having never experienced that at the square before. I hope Nick Kass, the manager, would improve his staff by not employing violent, power-trip motivated guys to work at the bar. Been going to mayloos for 2 years now but last night was the worst experience ever! I dont know if they got new bartenders but whoever man bartending the patio bar was a hatterrrrr. We had a large group and the bartender who wasn't even making the drinks was yelling at our whole group and talking mad smack on shit he doesn't even knowww? Like he was trying speak on something and on people don't know. And it was just so off putting and rude. Like how you gonna yell at a group of girls like you know something? This was my first time coming here because my friend suggested it. But I will not be back. After looking at my bank statement a couple of days later, I saw that the bartender decided to give himself a tip. It was only a $1 but it's the principle of him taking money from my card without my permission. Also, it was graduation night and packed. So if he did that to every customer he served that would probably add up to a minimum of $100. I don't know if he thinks that drunk college students wouldn't notice but I certainly did. If you're any other skin color, hair color, etc you might as well get out because they aren't very accepting of anyone outside of these standards. I witnessed some serious discrimination tonight on who was let onto the back patio. They claimed to be social distancing, but when some skinny little blonde girl walked right to the front skipping the whole line (after having not been on the patio prior) she was let in without question. Maybe nobody else noticed, but I did. This is so unacceptable. My friends and I constantly witness certain groups being provided more attention at the bar than others. I've been a loyal customer of Mayloos for many years. Unfortunately myself and a group of four went for graduation to celebrate. A member of our group reached to open a window when the doorman explained this was not allowed. We agreed and sat down and continued to drink our beverages. The doorman then came into the bar grabbed a woman by her arm and told her she needed to leave. He then proceeded to grab other woman in the group and force them out the door. The men in the party respectfully asked him to stop manhandling the women which he proceeded to throw out. No altercation was necessary and yet the doorman was incredibly uncouth and forcibly pushed out the women. This disrespectful and misogynistic behavior should never be allowed in any establishment. A few nights ago I was verbally assaulted by LANE LEBOUEF and physically grabbed. My friends and I had came in for a few drinks to celebrate my graduation. From the moment we got there I had noticed Lane being incredibly impatient and rude to all of the customers. I had noticed him being rude to my friend for no reason. She payed for her drinks, but her card got declined so I just payed for them for her. This is when I turned over and noticed Lane cussing at her and said "it's not my fault you are f'ing broke b****." This made me incredibly upset, as no man should ever speak to any customer or woman that way for no reason. I decided to not verbally interact but once he handed me my card back I grabbed it from him angrily because he had just treated my friend in such an unkind manner when she did nothing wrong. This immediately pushed him over the edge and he became aggressively angry and scary. He began to cuss at me and told me to "get the f*** out." I defended myself and told him that he should not speak to my friend or I that way because we had done nothing wrong from the moment we got there. He then kept cussing and yelling at me and as I defended myself he degraded me by telling me that "I'm so cute" for defending myself. He grabbed my drink and receipt from me and kept screaming at my friends and I. A few girls next to me began to get involved and were yelling at him for being crazy. He then jumped up on top of the bar top, climbed over, came up to me and PHYSICALLY grabbed me. As I was not a threat, nobody had a single right to put their hands on me. He pushed me and told me "get the f*** out you b****." My friends and I walked away to leave as he kept getting more aggressive and angry. As I was walking down the stairwell my bag strap got stuck on the railing. I felt another bartender (blonde hair and a man bun) shove me. I told him to not put his hands on me, as I was trying to leave but my bag was stuck. Once again, nobody should be touching me or putting their hands on me. Since I was walking down the stairs it is a safety hazard to shove somebody, as I could fall. I left feeling incredibly disgusted and hurt. I have been going here for a while now and I will never return here again. It's sad to know that women are not respected nor safe at this establishment. I am posting this to spread awareness, as this is concerning and the absolute worst I have ever been treated at a bar. Do not go. read more

AWFUL EXPERIENCE. I think the owner only hires people with anger management issues. Was there with my friends for the cowboys vs the 49ers game. When one of the bartenders wearing a cowboys jersey realized I was a 49ers fan, he punched me in the face and THEN preceded to CHOKE ME! My friends attempted to fight back, but a gang of roaches JUMPED them. Thankfully, the rats helped us fight back against the angry man baby bar tenders and get us out of the bar before being hurt even worse. If it weren't for the rats, I don't think we would be alive! I grew up in the San Marcos area and I'm a proud Alumni of Texas State and every time I come into town to visit, Mayloo's is the only spot on the square I care about going to. It's a fun environment and the service and drinks are always above par. Each visit I look forward to seeing the gentlemen consistently working his butt off in there, Jovan. He makes killer drinks in a timely manner and seriously runs the bar so well. He really has made my experience at Mayloo's wonderful and is the main reason I return each time. He has a professional attitude that is very rare in the crazy square environment. When I come in to party, it feels like home. Great music, great drinks, and lots of fun. If you are visiting San Marcos or haven't been back in a few years, I highly suggest you go to Mayloo's! The other bars around aren't worth your time or $$$! read more
