I love this place. I am pescatarian so TBH, this is a slice of heaven to me in meat-heavy Wilson. I always get the broiled fish unless I'm feeling skinny, which isn't often. "Salad, no bacon." I now tell them to hold the side of clarified butter because I don't need to eat a couple little tub of melted butter. They give you so much. My go-to is any broiled seafood item, baked potato, side salad no bacon. Their dressings are fantastic (taste like Ken's) and their salads are ample. I've tried their bloomin onion knock-off and we like it better than Outback. I don't order it often; y'all know why by now. I'm fluffy and don't need more fluff. I only order if I haven't weighed myself that day. A Mayflower dinner is always two meals for me. It is a great value. The A#1 best server there (and anywhere in Wilson) is CHANNING. The other half of my party was dying to go to the Mayflower over our last visit to Wilson, NC. It was a huge conversation. Over the years, we had gone a few times with family, as the Mayflower is a Wilson staple. In the photos you will see Sweet Tea, the (fried) Mayflower Captain's Platter (although I think the party I had dinner with had the name wrong) with hush puppies, green beans, cole slaw and potato salad, and the broiled Salmon steak with green beans, baked potato and hush puppies. I was laughed at for not ordering something fried. That is fine with me, considering I feel EVERYTHING in that place is fried in the same oil. Nevertheless, people will eat it. WE ate here a few days ago, Dec of 25. Wife and I had fried fish and son and daughters got shrimp. All tasted great, and those hushpuppies were like nothing we have seen before. They were delicious. This Mayflower was just okay. Surprisingly the fried jalapeños were the best thing we ordered out of the whole meal. The rest of the fried food was soggy and cooked in old grease. Customer service could have been better as well. Me and another gentleman came to the to go area and we're literally ignored because we didn't have call-in orders. Staff was friendly, but food was awful. I had a fried seafood platter. Everything was dry and overcooked. I could barely cut the flounder with a knife. I tried one oyster, but it tasted " off". Oh my gravy! If you are in the mood for serious seafood, here is your place to be!! We started with a shrimp cocktail. It was great! Cocktail sauce was just the right amount of hot. I ordered the pick three combo with fries as my side. As you can tell from the picture, it was a mountain of seafood! The baby shrimp were perfect. Not crumbly dry breading here! The deviled crab was delectable...moist & perfect seasoned. I also got the breaded whitefish...lightly breaded and seasoned! I was already pissed off because I wanted Western Sizzlin but it wasn't my birthday and it wasn't my choice. I'm still pissed but not as much now. This is a treasure in the ocean. I didn't know what to expect because there are only a few pics on Yelp. It wasn't crowded and we were immediately seated in the back at a table where it was nice and quiet. The menu is large, all kind of seafood. I always get a combo platter so I ordered the Mayflower platter. Since it says we can't make any substitutes, I had a stuffed crab and some oysters. They feed you a lot here and I didn't complain. Look at my pics...I couldn't eat all of thst food. The Cole Slaw was homemade and it was great. The Hushpuppies were shaped like onion rings and they were good too. I felt like Andrew Zimmern eating the oysters cause the taste to me is always bizarre. All the food was good. The staff was excellent. We had our drinks immediately, our food was served within 10 minutes and every several minutes someone checked on us. Four people, four meals for $42.70. Yeah that's it. Back in DC it would have easily been over a hundred bucks. Fresh, hot, seasoned food within minutes. Am I coming Back? Hell yeah I am even if I have to sneak down here. This Mayflower is pretty much down the street from my office, and just about everyone that I know worked with BB&T in town had liked Mayflower one way or another. I always held back my opinion because I have been to the same franchise in Greenville, where the ECU Pirates live. ARGHH! My team and I got out of a whole day conference and felt famished this past Tuesday (Mar-13) so we have "suggested" to our boss we should have a team-building lunch as well. Mayflower was the location that was picked by majority. The portion is better than I remembered from the Greenville franchise, and service is very attentive. Every time I feel like I need that extra sweet tea to wash down the Tuesday Flounder and Baby Shrimp Plate Special, it was always there, filled to the brim. If you are going to enforce the mask's on your customers. Please, make sure your own employees are wearing their masks properly. A mask covering your mouth and not your nose, defeats the whole purpose of wearing one. The same goes for wearing a mask over your chin. Side note, this is a restaurant. I ordered a large fried flounder which is three pieces. I did this to give my husband one piece. He ordered fried baby shrimp, known everywhere else as popcorn shrimp. It arrived looking like a ton of food but it was mostly huge hushpuppies under the seafood. His shrimp were okay but fries needed to cook longer. My three pieces of fried flounder I think came from the same fish that had been sliced super thin, battered, and fried. There wasn't but maybe one full tablespoon of edible fish on each slice. It lacked a nice crispy fry but probably because so thin it would have ruined the tiny bit of fish. Coleslaw was okay. Hushpuppies were okay. Whatever brand of ketchup, yuck! The butter for the hushpuppies and baked potatoes for folks who order them was buttery tasting spread, only it wasn't buttery tasting...don't just don't. And steer clear of the worst potato salad!! AND MY HUSBAND FOUND SOMEONE's ADULT BOXER UNDERWEAR ON THE BATHROOM SINK. They gave up washing the poop out of them or were coming back for them later cause the didn't throw them away. I came here for dinner on a Saturday evening with a large group. Our server Channing was awesome! He was very personable and helpful with making food recommendations. He was very attentive with refreshing drinks and bringing other items to our table. Food was served fresh and hot. Food portion was very large. Only giving 4 stars because the water was clearly tap and disgusting. The server offered me bottled water, but it was a Mayflower brand. If you are visiting Wilson and happen to eat at Mayflower Be careful if paying with card, this is what a $23.61 meal costed MAYFLOWER 17 WILSON US Posted on July 29, 2018 at 1:46AM $2,025.63, Now it's costing me even more because I'm having to wait 5 day's before it gets corrected, and in the mean time having to do without these funds, and causing more problems. So be advised pay cash not with card, because if I had not checked on this it may have been processed and they would have never known where the extra came from. Someone that has money, and the elderly may have never caught this error, and have let it slide, and they would have been out the $2025.63. I also feel that they should have offered to refund the price of the meal itself, due to the inconvenience, but they did not. I know everyone makes mistakes, but this should have been caught by the manager before it ever got posted, because it should have been flagged by their system as the monies for that day was off, and have been looked into at that point, not waiting until someone coming in and saying they had made an error, when all they had to do was look at the credit card receipts and they would have found the error, and it could have been corrected at that point, maybe some more training is required at this location. read more
