They have lost at least four items of mine. With no excuse, nor compensation for their mistake. Go elsewhere!

The short: Clean, machines work, people are nice…read more The long: Who loves doing laundry? Uh, not me. Well, it's not so bad when you have your own machines... but going to a laundromat is a different experience altogether. I've been to a few in my time. A lot start off really clean if they're new, then slowly circle the drain as the gaskets get all moldy, and the spilt detergent cakes up. Then one has the lovely 'public transportation' atmosphere to deal with. I'm a nice person as a whole I think, but I have a low tolerance for rude and ignorant. I've found strong examples of both that flavor, and really nice, and lots in between ....in the melting pots of these types of facilities. Now, I've liked going to the one Sunshine in Salem, but I wasn't in the mood to go there today. It's always been clean, but the flurry of activity gets a bit much at times. Enter their 'branch' in Marblehead. It has been as lovely an experience as possible. The woman attending the place has been super nice, and guided me in my laundry idiot ways (can you REALLY fill the machines that much??). She and a coworker were also beyond supportive when I made a huge mistake. Somehow, I've lost the life skills to use a vending machine properly. I got detergent stuck in the door. They cleared the issue, and were almost like life coaches trying to make me feel better about my mistake. This all makes a very big difference for me.... slowly making it seem like I shouldn't dread the experience in the future. Yay

Lafayette Laundry - The man that locked me in the building for 45 mins while I folded my underwear

4/5 Stars Lafayette…read moreLaundry is definitely one of those blink and you'll miss it kind of places--tucked away on Lafayette Street in downtown Salem. It's a small, hole-in-the-wall laundromat that isn't flashy, but it gets the job done. Inside, the space was clean and practical. There were about 9 or 10 washers of varying sizes (ranging from $3.25 to $7 depending on the load), and four dryers that run at 25¢ per 5 minutes. Everything is coin-operated, which is great if you prefer simple over tech-heavy machines. There's also a coin machine on-site, and if you need change, the owner at the business next door is incredibly kind--I only had a $20 and needed half that, and they happily helped me out. The vibe is no-frills and straightforward: wash, dry, fold, go. There's a folding counter, a few chairs to sit while you wait, outlets to charge your phone, and even a vending machine if you get hungry mid-cycle. I appreciated how safe I felt while there, and most importantly, my clothes came out clean and fresh. It's not a luxury laundromat, but it does exactly what you need it to do--quick, easy, and efficient. Perfect for locals or travelers looking for a reliable laundry stop in Salem. Within a 3 minute walk of the Hampton Inn Salem.

It's listed online as it's open until 11 every day and it's listed on the door that it's open till nine or 10 every day I was by myself at 7:45 when this random man came in into the laundry mat with a T-shirt and sandals on, in 25° weather with snowbanks over 4 feet tall. I think maybe this person may have managed the laundromat because they locked me in the building . I'm not sure if they were trying to close early, but they never expressed that . Instead, this strange man stood there silently for 45 minutes and would not let anybody in or out of the building while I folded my underwear alone .

When I picked them up, I noticed one article of clothing appeared to not have been cleaned at all. The woman working there, who said she was the owner's sister, agreed the article was still soiled, and offered to either reduce the cost of cleaning it or to "send it out again." I declined the re-cleaning having lost confidence. I paid the bill, expressed my disappointment with being charged at all for that item, and requested that the owner get in touch with me; he never did. Later I discovered my other article, a St. John 100% cotton coat-sweater, with dry cleaning instructions on the label: "Cover hardware, turn garment inside out, low heat, low moisture, low steam," was shrunk. I've never sued anyone, but I'm considering it now since the replacement cost of the sweater is not insignificant. Too bad reviewers must give a star when even that is undeserved.
