I'd definitely order this again it was good portions. Tilapia frita- whole fried tilapia on a bed of rice and side salad. I assumed they came sided with plantains based on pictures but you must ask for plantains!!!!! Fish was greatly cooked, great crisp and still soft and flaky inside. Had a wonderful lunch. Spices are a little different than texmex. Very warm and earthy flavors. I had the 3 Enchilada plate, my son had the fajita. They don't do free chips and salsa but their chips and salsa are hand made. The salsa has nice thick junks of vegetables rather than just watered down pre-made bland salsa. The food, service and the FOOOODDDD!! THE FOOD IS EXCELLENT! My son and I visited Mayaztecas about a year ago and fell in LOVE with the service and the food! We have since returned 6+ times (we are 25 miles away!!). We do not care how far it is...we go on Sundays when the traffic is lighter and enjoy the wonderful service and food. A friend Googled this location and we try many places together in a week! Long drive from where we live. Got there at 12 and only one car there. Not a good sign and the outside is littered. Went inside and it's very nice. A waitress came, but she only spoke Spanish. She called the owner who is Honduran. Spoke great English and was very helpful. Service was fantastic and the owner was always coming over making sure things were perfect. Started with the mixed papoosas, excellent taste with the two toppings. The tortilla was homemade and wonderful masa taste!! Got a unique plate that had sausage, chicken, beef and shrimp fajitas with all kinds veggies and plantains. The flavor when combined with all the extras with the homemade tortillas was great! The owner talked like they are very busy at night! Would I go back, YES! read more

I got the Fajita Torta and it was really good. It had big chunks of steak, the flavor was good, it just had too much lettuce on it. Other than that I enjoyed my lunch here. The place was clean, the guy who attended me was friendly. I would've gave it four stars, if the ratio of the lettuce was good. For them to have five from me, I would have to have tried the rest of their menu. read more

I found this to be a very good place, but my visit got off to a rocky start. It is a typical mom and pop place of the variety that I adore. These types of establishments add so much character to the city of Houston. Upon entering and seating myself, Mom comes over as Pop continues eating and watching TV. She hands me a menu and asks me if I would like something to drink. I ask for water and she tells me that there water filtration system isn't working, would I like a bottled water. I told her that I would not care to buy a bottled water. She then asks if I only wanted water or if I was going to eat there, and I responded that I certainly intended to eat there and that I was not a vagabond. This is all happening in Spanish which is my second language so there is room for error on my part but I am pretty sure I understood her correctly. She apologized more than adequately and I asked about the lunch specials. Apparently there were only two; pork chops or fried chicken. I thought that this was odd but I went with the chuleta or pork chop and it was delicious. Another couple came in and Pop took their order. He rattled off several more "specials " that Mom never mentioned. Perhaps they were not considered as LUNCH specials. Anyway the salsa was served hot with crispy chips. The pork chop, rice, beans, corn tortillas, and salad were all tasty and fresh. Mom is originally from Guerrero State in Mexico and Pop is from Honduras, and both are delightful people.
