Fish tacos were amazing! Taco Tuesday 1/2 price. Service was on point. Not a huge fan of the salsa, but the chips were really great!

Jose is a one of a kind chef! This place has everything you want from an authentic Mexican restaurant! The birria is all you ever need! It's a must visit when you're in the area. (Ps. if you have kids you can take them to the new Taylor Farms park right down the road before or after) read more

Excellent food!!!! Owner talked to us about the Mole and how his mother makes it in Oaxaca. Everything was delicious, service excellent!!! Found it on Yelp driving home to DC from NC. Not a big fan of the chips or salsa. It's too much. Just do what every other Mexican restaurant does, don't over-engineer it. The queso was bad. I don't know why but there was a bad odor and one of the ingredients must have spoiled. I ordered the mixed fajitas. The steak was really good. The shrimp and chicken were very overcooked and rubbery and nasty. read more

Haven't been in Southern California for a year, but these were THE best Pastor street tacos I've had since I left. Amazing flavor in the meat and the tortillas tasted like they were just made. I'll definitely be coming back here when I'm in town. read more

Such a nice surprise to find this first class restaurant so close to home! If you want authentic Mexican food, drinks, atmosphere and great service, this is the place to go!!! Fresh, delicious dishes with large portions and fantastic drinks too! If you live in Sandston, New Kent or passing by on 64 - it's well worth your time! Best Mexican restaurant we have been to from Richmond to Williamsburg... Mayas Latin Kitchen read more

You have so many Mexican choices - choose Maya's!! OMG it is sooooooo you will not be disappointed! The taco salad was top shelf - not your basic shredded iceberg lettuce with some shredded cheese in a stale bowl - homemade puffy and crispy bowl! Biria was made my taste buds Beyond the yumminess of all we ordered - the thoughtfulness of the packaging for delivery was THE BEST I have ever seen. This is the FIRST restaurant to make package my taco salsa in separate containers so I didn't have a gross soggy shell and lettuce. It may seem like a small thing ... but once you get it you realized why has no one else done this?? Chefs Kiss to the whole experience. I'll be dining in soon since they are so close. read more

I love mayas , food is always great! I love the birria quesadillas and the tacos as well as the chicken quesadillas.

If I could give this place a 110 out of 100, I would. I've never written a review for a restaurant before, but the service here was so exceptional that I literally created an account just to leave one. The food was better than anything I've ever tasted, and the entire experience was beyond excellent. I highly recommend eating here and will be coming back all the time. read more

The place is small but cute. Service was good. The chips had some seasoning on them and the homemade salsa was delicious. The el pastor tacos were good. Amazing house hot sauce. No margaritas (or any alcoholic drinks) available, bummer! read more

The food was absolutely awesome! This is not your typical Mexican restaurant, there is a much deeper flavor than the standard stuff you find everywhere. Even the corn chips seem homemade and seasoned and the salsa is nice and chunky (although could use a little spiciness). read more

We decided to come here as opposed to our usual Mexican spot since it is new to the area. It was great! Big portions and great flavor and pretty presentation. Service and ambiance was great - love the flowers everywhere too. Would recommend! read more

We were seated outside and waited 20 minutes with no greeting, no water, no chips. Finally had to go inside and let them know we were waiting. Waitress came outside and took our drink orders. Another 15 minutes passed. No drinks. Then another 10 minutes passed and she comes back out and asks if we've gotten our drinks yet and we say no. She returns with chips and salsa (finally) but no drinks. After a total of 45 minutes, we left... still not having gotten drinks or food. read more

Best Mexican restaurant in RVA metro area I've had tacos from hole-in-the-wall LA joints (obviously amazing) but this might be the best sit-down Mexican restaurant on the East Coast. I knew how good the food was going to be as soon as the chips came out. Atmosphere is cute, margs top notch (1 got you feelin it), and amazing food! Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. read more

solid Mexican food, friendly and attentive service, clean and well decorated restaurant

Good was really good and we all loved the chips and salsa! Would go more often but we'd have to pay over $10 in tolls.

We went last night for the first time. And wow ! What a great Mexican restaurant! Food was seasoned perfectly. Tons of meat with each choice. Margaritas were on point. This is not like the other restaurants in Richmond. This is different. Food just tastes home made and fresher. We will be back ! read more

Good food, service is decent, good ambiance. Could have used a 1st drink refill, could have used salsa refill. Those things are minor. The food makes up for it. Solid food read more

I frequent this restaurant and have always received great service, especially from the young men that work there. That is until recently. I went and sat at the bar and there was one other person at the bar(there was an empty chair in between us). They normally give chips and salsa as soon as you are seated, however, I didn't receive any. I was asked did I want a drink menu and said no as I knew what I wanted and I placed my drink order as I was handed a menu. A couple comes in about 10 minutes later and asks the man that's seated to move down one and he does. The couple is then given chips and salsa and menus and I'm a little confused as I've been sitting there waiting. The manager/owner comes and I tell him that I would like chips and salsa and that I'm ready to order, as the bartender was at a table. I repeat my drink order to him(a frozen mocktail) and he says it's coming up. The bartender then proceeds to give the couple that came in after me, soft drinks and then makes their drink. At this point I've been waiting for over 15 minutes and wasn't even asked if I wanted water or anything else. I'm completely turned off as it felt that it was based on race. I hate to even think that, but how does a couple who comes in after me get served before me right in front of my face. They didn't even bring me the chips until I asked. They were busy, yet both the man next to me, and the couple managed to get served while I sat and waited patiently feeling overlooked. It's sad because I'm a regular, and felt completely disregarded. read more

OK....after reading all the reviews - both good and bad - since they opened, a posting about their happy hour specials on Facebook last week prompted us to give it a try last night... and we were VERY pleasantly surprised! We are regulars at the other local Mexican Restaurants in the area so we had a good sense of comparison... AND It was Taco Tuesday. Yes, the food was a tad more expensive, but very close to the "competition" price-wise. My wife started with a Margurita and I with a dark beer, and the Happy Hour pricing was on par with the others - HOWEVER - her Margurita was no machine-concocted offering, but a true hand mixed delight that was among the best she'd ever had, according to her. I enjoyed finding a dark beer on special also! Next came the chips a Salsa. These aren't your typical store-bought chips, thicker and with great flavor, they were among the best I've had complemented by a very tasty Salsa. It was Taco Tuesday so we both ordered Tacos. I ordered the Birria Tacos to try something different, which came in a three pack. These weren't your typical shells with just a hint of filling (as most are served elsewhere)... no, these were stuffed chock full in a properly prepared Corn shell, and required both hands to eat! My wife ordered 2 Chicken and one Meat version, and could not finish all three, but agreed these were among the best we have ever had - anywhere. So to all the others who - like us - have waited...wait no longer. You'll also be pleasantly surprised! read more

First visit, very yummy!! I had the Birria Quesadilla. The beef was very flavorful and tender. It was served "au jus" with a savory dipping broth. Good size - I had enough leftover for lunch. I'll definitely visit again. (I called in my order for pick up, so I can't say anything about the ambience.) read more

Had a great lunch here. Excellent chicken torta and all around tasty meal. The chips and salsa were especially delicious! We'll be returning for sure read more

The food here is amazing! Deep, bold flavors like nothing else in the area. Family owned and operated. They care about the legacy of this business and it shows in everything they do. The service was prompt and our server was very attentive. The late hours are great especially when coming in on an evening flight. There is nothing near the airport that is opened after 8 or 9 so this place fills that void. You will not be disappointed here by the menu. The sauces are amazing, the produce fresh and the layers of ingredients in the menu items are flavors from an abuelita's kitchen. read more

Best authentic Mexican food in Virginia. Family is from Oaxaca, southern Mexico and they cook with love and quality ingredients. We are originally from Southern California and have been craving authentic Mexican food since we moved here 7 years ago and have found it! We are thrilled we have found this gem. We have dined here 2 days in a row. We live an hour away but enjoy the drive for great food. Everything we tried was excellent. We started with their homemade chips which were dusted with their secret seasonings and fresh salsa made with fresh chopped tomato and blend of various herbs. This was a 10, off to a great start! Quesa birria tacos had a delicious consome full of flavor. They were perfectly prepared. Chilaquiles with the red sauce was plated beautifully and the flavor of everything from the sunny side eggs to the ripe avocado was perfect. I got it with steak which had a yummy marinade and the meat was very tender. Carnitas are moist and seasoned perfectly. Corn tortillas on the tacos are thin and moist. They season them and grill them so they're nice and warm. We tried 4 different empanadas which were a bit on the small side but packed full of flavor encased in a thin, crusty corn shell and served with various salsas. These are so good and I'm already craving them. We had :3 different aqua frescas ( fresh made drinks) horchata, tamarindo and Jamaica. All were refreshing and delicious. We had the tres leches cake which was the perfect finish. It is a delicate moist cake layered with fresh strawberries and fresh whipped cream. The cake was perfect and made with care. On top of the excellent food, was the great service. Waitress was always smiling, happy to be there and checking to see how we liked everything. Restaurant was clean and organized. They have a great restaurant and we are big fans! read more

Brand new to Sandston area. Food was great. Salsa was enjoyable, not spicy at all. Staff are learning the menu and process since it just opened today. Really liked the black beans instead of the standard refried. ABC license is in process. They have a sweet tea but no unsweetened version. Water comes via bottle. Left full and satisfied. Welcome to Sandston Maya's. read more

I'm usually skeptical of restaurants near airports, and as a Californian, I tend to be wary of Mexican food outside the state. But Mayas Latin Kitchen completely exceeded my expectations. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. I started with a cup of lentil soup, which was perfectly seasoned, followed by a taco and an empanada--both were excellent. The empanada, in particular, was the best I've ever had. The service is outstanding, and the ambiance is lively and inviting. What a great surprise! I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Richmond. read more

This was the first time me and my girl tried out this new local restaurant, and boy we were pleased with the results! I had the chorizo nachos which was very flavorful. The chorizo was not as spicy as I've had at other places but was still very good. My girl had the birria tacos and we both agreed they were probably the best we've ever tasted. Our only issue was the tortilla chips, which were a bit harder than we like, and the salsa was a little watered down. The place also has a nice vibe Our waiter was great, very friendly, and even tried to cater to our 7 month old son. Overall we greatly enjoyed ourselves at Mayas. Definitely going to become a go to spot for us, especially since it's only a 7 min walk from my house. read more

Food was excellent; glad that I had extra to take home. Our server made us feel like neighbors.

We've been meaning to try this place for the past few weeks. It is SO cute from the outside, but inside is even better! A lot of care was put into the decors. Extra polite and attentive staff. We were there on a weeknight and it was not too crowded. We had the veggie tacos (so fresh and delicious) and shrimp quesadillas (hearty portion and shrimp was well-seasoned). Free chips and salsa were a cut above! Clearly homemade. Can't wait to try the desserts next time (churros, tres leches cake, or flan). Also want to come back for Taco Tuesdays! They are working on getting their liquor license. We just have to be patient! read more

We ate at Maya's tonight and were very impressed. The food was fantastic. My burrito was one of the best I've ever had. Rosemarie and I agree that the tres leches cake is the very, very best we've ever had. Also, our server was friendly and helpful. In fact, all of the staff seemed happy to be there, which made for a nice atmosphere. It's nice to finally have a good Mexican restaurant in Sandston. read more

I would definitely prefer my order to be more punctual. That being said, it's new and clearly still staffing. Once we got the food home it was very satisfying. Everything was accurate, hot, and delicious. Definitely the more authentic Latin food in the area. We will definitely be back and would happily spend $80 there again. Best of luck and please stick around. read more

I'm so happy we have Mayas here in Sandston! I've been getting lunch from their downtown location for a while and they have some of my favorite food.
