This Mexican restaurant is an average one in my opinion. Decent prices and good quality of food. I got the dinner combination and everything was seasoned well. The bad thing I didn't like was that they had Nopales (cactus) which I LOVE and very hard to find around here for like $6.99 as an appetizer. When it came out I was very disappointed. It was so small and for that price I would have figured we would have gotten a lot more. They should have just offered it as a side add on, not an appetizer. They also make their cocktail drinks strong and pretty! The drink prices were also normal and not too high priced. Overall, a good Mexican restaurant if you're in the area. read more

First time checking out El Torito. It's pretty close tot the airport which is not bad. The food is not great but it did serve its purpose. The drinks were huge and the flavor was pretty good. Nothing bad to say about the service. It was pretty quiet and restaurant was clean. Not my favorite choice for Mexican in the area. But the positives are it's close to the airport and no wait. Plenty of parking as it's in its own area and near a ton of hotels. read more

New management banner on the outside of the building. Hoped for the best but unfortunately the quality went downhill. Salsa that comes with the complimentary chips is now very thin and watery. I ordered the fried beef chimichangas and the wife ordered the nachos supreme. My chimichangas were edible with some fatty beef, the beans were from a low grade can. The wife's nachos on the other hand were horrible and actually had pooled oil from the beef under the first level of chips. read more

The family and I are on an epic road trip and we've been stuck eating hotel food for far too many meals, so tonight was a treat to visit El Torito. The staff was very kind, and the food was delicious. Highly recommend the queso! My wife swears it's the best she has ever had. Meals worth highlighting were my Enchiladas Americanos (1 chicken, 1 beef, 1 cheese) and my son's Quesadilla Vallarta (Shrimp & Chicken w/ pineapple). Both were amazing. Definitely 5 stars and a restaurant worth trying if you are in the area. read more

This place is pretty good! It hit the spot for a quick lunch. We went last month in September, it was a hot day and they had no AC and just a fan going which didn't hit us unfortunately so it was HOT inside with no breeze. Not sure if it was just that day that the AC was out, but I probably wouldn't go here in the summer. Besides that, the food was good and it came out quick! This is under new management as of six months ago. Family-run, it has excellent food. My friend loved the salsa and the arroz con pollo. I thought the chile relleno was absolutely wonderful! Amazing restaurant right across from the airport. On a street of sketch, you will not want to pass this gem up. We had amazing fresh chips and salsa. Picked up take-out from this charming little restaurant for lunch today. It was really good! Husband enjoyed his crunchy beef tacos and I went into a literal food coma after indulging in a generous plate of a fried chicken chimi with sides. It was stuffed with chicken and came with a nice limey guac, sc, & lettuce. Great chips & salsa were complimentary, good rice, too & you can get black beans instead of fried. I've been waiting for El Torito to open for a month or so. It finally happened. And well-executed. I got carry-out last night, and am still snacking on the Tortilla Chips and Salsa. I started out by ordering 2 Beef Chimichangas, Fried, nothing else. Perhaps 10-15 minutes later it came out and I headed for home. I dove into the Chimichangas first. Good. Slightly above average. And, of course served with Refried Beans, and Spanish Rice. Good food. I hope to return to try Chile Rellenos, Enchiladas, and more. I got stuck in Richmond for an extra day and stayed near the airport. I really didn't want another fast food meal, and luckily this restaurant was within walking distance from my hotel. I went with a friend of mine, and we both ordered the 3-item combination plate (you can choose from several different items). I got a beef taco, a chicken enchilada, and a chicken tamale, served with rice and refried beans. Everything was delicious - good, solid Mexican food - and the service was fast and friendly. The dining room is fairly small, but it felt cozy and not claustrophobic. I'm hoping I get stuck in Richmond again just so I can visit here! And FYI, the large margaritas are enormous! read more

Stopped here while on the road. The food is bland and under seasoned. Took a lot of sauces to make it pop. There was barely if any salt, pepper or seasoning. The place is clean and the portions generous. If you are on the road and starving this place is ok; but only in a pinch. read more

Food was not good at all. I got fajita nachos and queso dip. I don't know if they make their queso dip themselves but it had a milky taste with a weird separation going on. The sautéed mushroom were completely inedible because they were so over salted. It tasted like they dropped the salt shaker in the mushrooms. The guacamole was watery and had no taste. No onion, garlic, jalapeño, cilantro. Only lime juice. My husband's grilled shrimp salad was ok. It didn't come with any kind of dressed so it was pretty bland. The Chile Relleño was disgusting. It wasn't stuffed with anything, not even cheese. It looked like there was enchilada sauce on top but it didn't taste like it. How this place place gets 4 1/2 stars is beyond me. The service is ok, but the food is not good. Probably a 2 out of 10. Taco Bell is a 3. Paid $12.50 for a Jack n Coke. They must think they are high class..but really, it's just a dumpy restaurant in a bad part of town that probably feeds off of customers that are staying at hotels nearby. I do not recommend this restaurant. When I walked in, I sat down at the table and all of the dishes were dirty. I was appalled by the lack of elbow grease put into the dish watching technique. The food was questionable, it gave my fellow sustenance seeker food poisoning. The food was undercooked and untrustworthy. The drinks tasted rusty and the cup was obviously not cleaned. Upon arriving, the restaurant had a very funky smell. I should have followed my gut and walked out. I had the shrimp quesadilla, 5 small shrimp with cheese. Very lame. The rice side had what looked like frozen mixed vegetables that were freezer burned in a pile of plain white rice. They spent a long time renovating this from the diner it used to be & it really shows. They did a great job, it looks great! The staff were all very friendly & attentive. The food was very good & the prices were decent. I went last week to get the Nachos Supreme. They are topped with Queso, beef, chicken, beans, lettuce, tomatoes (no tomatoes for me) & sour cream. My wife and I were in the area earlier this week and were looking for a new place to get lunch. I knew the restaurant from a couple of years ago when it was Ma & Pa Diner, did not know it had changed ownership, and decided to give it a try. We were very glad we did. The place is clean and nicely redecorated, barely recognizable from before. Their menu is extensive with plenty of choices, all at very reasonable prices. Service was friendly and prompt, and entrees were hot. Their salsa is very good. My wife was not that hungry so she ordered only their nachos. The serving was so generous she could not eat all of it and needed to ask for a to-go box at the end of our meal. I had their soft chimichanga with beef tips, which was also a very generous portion and very tasty. So many Mexican restaurants use some form of hamburger meat nowadays in theirs - not the case here. Theirs were tender and nicely flavorful. So if you are in the area, have to pick up someone at the Richmond airport ( just across the road), or just want a very good, casual Mexican restaurant that is a great value, we highly recommend you try this one. I'm a novice at ordering takeout with delivery by grub hub. Stuck at the Richmond Sheraton airport with no car so figured I would order from El Torito. Easy process ordering and upon completion was given a 30 min estimate. Well 20 min later the delivery gal was texting me that she was here! Wow that was fast. Order was perfect and the food was really good. What a great experience. My only suggestion, not a complaint is that a little better and sturdy plastic silverware would be great.
